  • Surface integrity of laser-surfaced NiCoMo powder alloy on 12 Ni maraging steel

    The subject of this paper is a surface-integrity analysis of 12 Ni maraging steel (EN 10027-2, W. No. 1.2799) laser-surfaced specimens. Laser-surfacing experiments were performed on 3.3 kW Nd:YAG ... laser system with coaxial blowing of NiCoMo powder alloy that integrates different modes of laser-beam guidance and different degrees of overlapping. The surfaced specimens were subsequently solution- and precipitation-annealed in order to examine a precipitation response of the newly-formed weld material using the SEM with a microprobe for EDS analysis, supported by microhardness tests. The residual stresses were determined by a hole-drilling method on the weld toe and the weld face and the integral method of stress calculation. Favourable compression of residual stresses is generated during a slow air-cooling process due to a phase transformation from austenite to martensite on each measured part of the surface area.
