    Mechanical load appears always as a consequence of the interaction between two components that are in a mutual contact. Contact problem are very common situations in the engineering praxis. They can ... result from the components function or can occur unpredictable in case of collision. To assure functionallity of the machine parts and to predict their sensibility it is imperative to gain a complete insight into contact circumstances. Due to its complexity contact phenomena has to be analysed using the methods of computational mechanics. Comparison between the analytical and numerical methods for solving contact problem is given in the present work. Some results are shown for simple Hertzian type problems and for complex non conforming frictional contact problems as well. A new model of the rolling-sliding contact is presented. A complex phenomena is divided into rotation and contact deformation step. Finite elements method has been utilised using declarative procedures and C++ computer language. Langrangian contact algorithm has been used. Generalised constraints principle has been applied enabling model simplification. An algorithm for the exact contact size calculation has been added. Some results of the analyses of the contact circumstances during the meshing of the gears are shown at the eng. While only the highest stresses of the gear tooth flanks ant at the tooth root are provided by the standardised gear design procedures, a complete stress distribution is given by the computational methods enabling the exact failure and gear damaging prediction.
