  • Metallography and constitution of the Pd-Au-Zn and Au-Cu-Zn systems

    By means of the X-ray and metallographic analysis two phase diagrams were prepared for the Pd-Au-Zn and Au-Cu-Zn systems which are valid in the temperature ranges from 850°C to 400°C and from 650°C ... to 300°C, respectively. The binary phases originating from the boundary systems, extending differently deep into the ternary region and dissolving various amounts of the third element, are present in the diagrams. A wide range of ▫$\alpha$▫ ternary mixed cristals was found in both diagrams which are essentially two-non-isothermal sections through the ternary space. The metallographic analysis provided useful data on the phase morphology which is in accordance with the ... structure of phases. The microstructures with high Au content are coarse, resulting in unsatisfactory mechanical and corosion properties. The high Pd contents in microstructures of alloys have a favourable effect on the reduction of segregations.
