    Summer camp activities for diabetic children have a 30-year-old tradition in Slovenia. In the summer camp medical team and volunteer educators talk to small groups of children about diabetes, diet, ... psychological problems, preparing and injecting insulin. During practical lessons children learn how to change the dose of insulin according to their blood sugar measurements and to some special conditions. It is the opportunity for the children to learn more about diabetes and importance of good metabolic control... According to the results of written exams during the last years we conclude that children know a lot about their disease. Due to the regular measurements of HbA1c in the summer camp and before and after it in the outpatient clinic we conclude that summer camp activities do not worsen the metabolic control.
