  • Bolezni, povezane z višino = High altitude related illnesses
Rozman, Aleš ; Tomazin, Iztok, dr. med., 1960-
Nowadays, increasingly more people are visiting high altitude areas due to modern ways of spending their holidays. The decreasing partial pressure of oxygen in the hogh altitude atmosphere is ... associated with low blood oxygen concentration, which gives rise to various forms of high altitude illness. Individual susceptibility to the high altitude illness is inherited and variesenormously. Choldren, pregnant women and some patients with pre-existingillmesses are more sensitive to the effects of high altitude. Acute mountain sickness can be prevented by a slow ascent and acclimatisation.Severe forms of high altitude pulmonary edema and high altitude cerebral edema, wich are life-threatening conditions, can be avoided by early recogniton and halting the ascent or with descent. Some illnesses resulting from harsh climate condition are also reladet to high altitude.
