  • Oskrba poškodb čelne votline v okviru kompleksnih poškodb obraznega skeleta = Tretment of frontal sinus injuries as part of complex facial skeletal injuries
    Eberlinc, Andreja
Frontal sinus fractures are uncommon injuries, representing only 5-12% of all facial fractures. They result from high-energy impact to the upper third of the face. Most commonly, patients are ... polytraumatised with fractures of the facial bones, intracranial injuries and/or cervical spine injuries. These injuries usually require a multidisciplinary approach (anesthesiologist, traumatologist, neurosurgeon, maxillofacial surgeon, ENT surgeon, ophthalmologist, etc.). The stabilisation of vital functions and management ofany other life-threatening injuries take precedence over sinus fractures. Frontal sinus fractures do not require immediate surgical attention unless they are associated with a neurosurgical or ophthalmological emergency. Management of the frontal sinus depends on the degree of frontal sinus wall displacement, the existence of a persistent CSF leak and nasofrontal duct involvement. Complications of delayed or improper management can be life-threatening conditions, such as meningitis, mucopyocele, pneumocephalus and brain abscess.
