  • Strabizem = Squint
    Kosec, Dragica
Squinting is a pathological deviation of one eye in relation to the another. Squinting can be permanent or periodic. There are several types of squinting: inward, outward, upward, and downward, while ... combinations of the four types are also possible. Squinting can be concomitant or noncomitant. It appears in 3 - 4% of cases. The proportions of types of squinting are racially dependent. There is a four times increased risk that the child of squinting parents will inherit this deviation. Therapy for concomitant squinting is primarily correction of the refractive error and, after improvement of visual acuity, surgery if necessary. In noncomitant squinting surgery is required, inaddition to correction of the refractive error, as early as the age of two years to allow the development of visual function.
