  • Etični problemi, s katerimi se srečujejo zdravniki pri obravnavi alkoholikov v svojih ambulantah = Ethical problems encountered by physicians in outpatient treatment of alcoholics
    Balažic, Jože, 1954-
Alcoholism is one of the most frequent forms of addiction among the populationof Slovenia, and affects all age groups. Alcoholism, or addiction toalcohol, was declared to be a disease by the World ... Health Organization and the World Medical Association some time ago. This disease requires treatment methods that are somewhat different from those used in treating other somatic diseases, given that alcoholics refuse to admit - either to themselves or to those in their milieu - that they are patients, and that as such they need treatment. This basic relationship between alcoholics - as patients - and their physicians spawns many conflict situations, which in turn bring about numerous ethical dilemmas. A second trigger of ethical questions is the physician's attitude towards alcoholics, as the latter are considered by many physicians to be an unnecessary evil rather than merely patients.
