  • Malarija: laboratorijska diagnostika, hitri testi = Malaria: laboratory diagnosis, rapid diagnostic tests
    Kobe, Jasna Modrica
Conventional light microscopy is the established method for laboratory confirmation of malaria. A careful examination of well-prepared and stained, thick and thin blood film still remains the gold ... standard for the identification of malaria parasites. Travellers can use several commercial rapid diagnostic tests based on the detection of antigens derived from malariaparasites using specific monoclonal antibodies. The sensitivity of rapid diagnostic tests is still a problem, particularly for non-immune populations. The manufacturing of rapid diagnostic tests is currently being reviewed by a number of large companies, and in the near future a new generation of rapid diagnostic tests is expected to bring malaria diagnostics from the microscope to the patient.
