  • Žariščne okvare perifernega živčevja v nosečnosti in med porodom pri materi in novorojenčku = Focal neuropathies in pregnancy and childbirth in mother and newborn
    Podnar, Simon
During pregnancy and childbirth, some parts of the peripheral nervous system are at increased risk. This applies to both the mother and newborn. The most common mechanism of focal peripheral nerve ... damage in this period is nerve compression (facial nerve and brachial plexus lesions in the newborn, and lumbosacral plexus lesion in the mother). Systemic causes less often lead to peripheral nervous system lesions. Prognosis of focal nervous lesions in this population is, fortunately, good in most cases; lesions spontaneously heal in a few months. In spite of good prognosis, it is however important for gynecologists, obstetricians, and neonatologists to know risk factors for suchlesions, to be able to recognise them, and to act appropriately. In the management of focal nerve lesions they can rely on the assistance of neurologists and clinical neurophysiologists.
