  • Economic output and the optimal size of government
    Pevcin, Primož
The article investigates the relationship between economic output, its growth rate and the size of government. As the theory predicts, a negative effects ofgovernment size on economic output and the ... growth rate should occur where the size of the government sector exceeds a certain threshold, indicting that a certain optimal size of the government sector exists, a notion popularised as the Armey Curve. The time-series data estimation of the Armey Curve for thesample of 12 European countries suggests that, on average, the size of government in those countries has exceeded its economically optimal point, thereby causing potentially unfavorable effects for economic output.
