  • Električno določanje delovne dolžine koreninskega kanala : osnove delovanja = Electrical determination of working length in endodontics : operating priciples
Križaj, Dejan, 1962- ; Jan, Janja
The working length of a root canal can be determined by measurement of electrical resistance between dental and periodontal tissues, which have different electrical and geometrical characteristics. ... The procedure can be modelled by a simple combination of electrical components. The position of theapical foramen is determined by measurements of electrical resistance for direct or alternating current. Dentine and cementum, which form the greater part of the root canal wall, have comparatively high electrical resistance. Conductive materials within the root canal (tissue remnants, fluid) are connected through the apical foramen to the periodontal ligament, which is a good conductor of electric current, whereas dentine acts as an insulator. Whenan endodontic file is advanced within the canal towards the apical foramen, the resistance between the file and the foramen decreases. The first, simplest devices used for determination of root canal length measured electrical resistance for direct current. Modern devices register resistance for alternating current using multiple frequencies. The aim of this review is to clarify the fundamenal operating principles of different types of apex locators.
