  • Klorheksidin v endodontiji = Chlorhexidine in endodontics
    Samec, Tomi ; Jan, Janja
Chlorhexidine is one of the most widely used antiseptics in medicine. It is a symmetrical molecule composed of two chlorophenyl rings and two biguanide groups connected by a hexamethylene chain. ... Chlorhexidine changes the permeability of bacterial membrane, causing loss of intracellular content and in higher concentrations also coagulation of cytoplasm. In endodontics it is used as an irrigant or root canal medicament at concentrations of 0.2 to 2 percent in the form of gel or solution. Excellent activity against Gram-positive microbes, fungal growth prevention, long lasting antimicrobial action within the root canal, and lower toxicity in comparison with sodium hypochlorite are attributes which make chlorhexidine a suitable agent for endodontic use. The article presents the antimicrobial properties and spectrumof chlorhexidine, its advantages and disadvantages in comparison with other root canal irrigants and calcium hydroxide, compatibility/incompatibility with other medicaments, indications for use and methods of application.
