  • Zdravje ustne votline otrok s primarno imunsko pomanjkljivostjo = Oral health in children with primary immunodeficiency
    Pavlič, Alenka ...
The immune system may be divided into innate and acquired immunity. While the genes coding for innate immunity receptors are already present in germ celis, acquired immunity receptors are generated ... randomly by rearrangement of genes. The absence or malfunction of the immune system is likely to lead to an immunodeficiency disease, which may be primary (congenital) or secondary (arising due to environmental factors). Many types of primary immunodeficiency diseases have been identified, but the majority of these are very rare. In Slovenia, there are currently 261 registered patients with pri mary immunodeficiency; in 115 of them a genetic basis for their disease has been established. Patients with pri mary immune deficiency are subject to frequent infections affecting the skin, middle ear, sinuses, lungs, internal organs or the body as a whole, which may have a severe course. Autoimmune manifestations can develop, and the risk of malignancy is increased. In the oral cavity, gingivitis is common, and periodontitis can occur. Common disorders affecting the soft tissues of the oral cavity include recurrent aphthous stomatitis, herpes labialis, candidiasis, and mouth ulcers. Some patients with pri mary immune deficiency have defective tooth enamel formation.
