  • Distribution of carbon and oxygen stable isotopes in stream waters in Slovenia

    Stream waters of Slovenia were sampled according to an analyses-of-variance design that permitted to established a representative insight into the areal distibution of their chemical and isotopic ... composition on the basis of relatively few determinations. The mean (median) of [delta] [sup] 13 C in dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) for Slovenia is -12.0 to -4.0%o. The maps constructed show the distribution of values across the country: for [delta] [sup] 13 C, and for [delta] [sup] 18 O. The succesive condensation effect of [delta] [sup] 18 O is seen very clearly from west (-6.4 %o) toward east (-10 %o). The established regional trends of carbon isotopic composition are statistically signficant at the 5 % level, as indicated by the analysis of variance, while the significant of trends of oxygen isotopic composition couldnot be indicated owing to high variation at the local level of the design.
