  • The importance of tacit knowledge for sustaining a competitive advantage
    Širec, Karin
With the emergence of the resourcebased view of the firm and the concept of core competencies, intangible resources and tacit knowledge in particular have been argued to occupy a central place in the ... development of a sustainable competitive advantage. This is because tacit knowledge is argued to be not only rare but also difficult to imitate, substitute, and transfer. The paper discusses how both tacit knowledge and outstanding knowledge management capabilities can be the basis for a sustained competitive advantage in today's economic environment. It presents various theoretical views which represent a theoretical foundation for studies on the sharing of tacit knowledge in organizations.
