    Background. Allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantations is promising treatment for acute leukaemias and chronic granulocytic leukaemia. In the period from 1989 till 1997 authors performed 36 ... related allogenetic transplantas for various types of leukaemia. The procedure was succesful in 80% of patients with chronic granulocytic leukaemia and 50% of patients with acute leukaemias. The most frequent cause of the death in patients with chronic granulocytic leukaemia was cytomegaloviral interstitional pneumonia and relapse in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In patients with acute myeloblastic leukaemia authors, beside relapse observed also three causes of death related to the transplantation procedure (acute graft versus host disease, liver veno-occlusive disease and thrombotic-thrombocytopenic purpura). Authors discuss and compare their results with the published studies. Conclusions. Allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation programme in University Medical Centre Ljubljana is running succesfully and the results are comparable to the data published in the literature.
