  • Il restauro di Casa Tartini a Pirano
    Hoyer, Sonja Ana
The study details the restoration, in the 1980s, of the famous musician Giuseppe Tartini's birthplace in Pirano. This is one of the most important projects carried out by the "Istituto per la tutela ... dei beni naturali e culturali di Pirano". Now restored, the building has again acquired a functionality in keeping with its valuable heritage. Today it is not only usedby the local "Comunità degli Italiani" but almost daily hosts a wide veriety of cultural events. In addition, one of the rooms houses memorabilia that belonged to the musician. The project is based on extensive research and evaluation, related to the various construction phases of the building. The study of relevant archives was a great help in this process. The most important discovery is undoubtedly the wall paintings in the interior, which have been proven to go back to some of the "capricci" by the Venetian painter Pietro Gaspari and to two "capricci" by Giambattista Tiepolo. Part of the decoration seems to be indebted to the painting of Giuseppe Bernardino Bison, a native of Friuli who belonged to the Venetian School and was also active in Trieste. This explains why some of the works in Pirano show the influence of both 18th century Venetian painting and the neo-classicism of Trieste.
