Shortly after the first publication on the new disease called Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), studies on the causal consequences of this disease began to emerge, initially focusing only on ...transmission methods, and later on its consequences analyzed in terms of gender, age, and the presence of comorbidities. The aim of our research is to determine which comorbidities have the greatest negative impact on the worsening of the disease, namely which comorbidities indicate a predisposition to severe Covid-19, and to understand the gender and age representation of participants and comorbidities. The results of our study show that the dominant gender is male at 54.4% and the age of 65 and older. The most common comorbidities are arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases. The dominant group is recovered participants aged 65 and older, with comorbidities most frequently present in this group. The highest correlation between patients with different severity of the disease was found with cardiovascular diseases, while the coefficient is slightly lower for the relationship between patients with different disease severity and urinary system diseases and hypertension. According to the regression analysis results, we showed that urinary system diseases have the greatest negative impact on the worsening of Covid-19, with the tested coefficient b being statistically significant as it is 0.030 < 0.05. An increase in cardiovascular diseases affects the worsening of Covid-19, with the tested coefficient b being statistically significant as it is 0.030 < 0.05. When it comes to arterial hypertension, it has a small impact on the worsening of Covid-19, but its tested coefficient b is not statistically significant as it is 0.169 > 0.05. The same applies to diabetes mellitus, which also has a small impact on the worsening of Covid-19, but its tested coefficient b is not statistically significant as it is 0.336 > 0.05. Our study has shown that comorbidities such as urinary system diseases and cardiovascular diseases tend to have a negative impact on Covid-19, leading to a poor outcome resulting in death, while diabetes mellitus and hypertension have an impact but without statistical significance.
Introduction: As a result of research conducted globally, experts continue to extensively study the long-term consequences that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections ...can have on patients, as well as the factors contributing to severe outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the values of basic biochemical and hematological parameters in patients with fatal outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection, as well as to determine the combination of hematological and biochemical parameters that contribute to the progression of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The examined parameters were correlated with the age and gender distribution of patients with fatal outcomes from the SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods: The study represents a retrospective study of patients hospitalized at the Cantonal Hospital Zenica from February to April 2021, focusing on the biochemical and hematological parameters of subjects with confirmed presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus using the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction methods who were hospitalized at the Cantonal Hospital Zenica. Results: Of the 250 deceased subjects in the sample, females comprised the relative majority at 53.6%. Among the examined parameters, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and MCH were significantly lower in females compared to males, while males had significantly higher values of urea, creatinine, and troponin. The average age of the patients was 74 years, and with aging, the values of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and troponin increased. Troponin showed a statistically significant positive correlation with age, as well as with urea and creatinine. Conclusion: We can conclude that hemoglobin, urea, creatinine, and troponin are parameters that can be considered to contribute to the progression of SARS-CoV-2 infection. These parameters can be useful for assessing disease severity and prognosis in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The aim of this cross-cultural study was to examine predictors of sexual satisfaction. For the present analysis, we used a large-scale sample database that included 8821 individuals from 4 countries. ...All participants completed the same questionnaires, which were designed to capture numerous important variables that have been shown to correlate with sexual satisfaction. According to our results, predictors of sexual satisfaction were classified into four general categories (demographic factors, psychological factors, sociocultural factors, and pathophysiological factors). Our international study found statistically significantly higher satisfaction among homosexual participants, participants aged 18 to 23 years, those with a higher level of education, in a relationship, with a current sexual partner, in a current partnered (unmarried) relationship, and without a diagnosed sexual or mental disorder. At the same time, we found that the correlation between sexual satisfaction and the different predictors varieed considerably across countries, which calls for further research.
Beakground: The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in COVID-19 patients, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which are the most common comorbid ...conditions in COVID-19 patients, is considered a risk factor for premature mortality in the population. The aim of the study is to compare the standard biochemical and hematological markers of COVID-19 patients on mechanical ventilation and those who have recovered, and to identify differences by gender and comorbidities, as well as the dominant marker in comorbidities that frequently shows statistical significance, in order to investigate its prognostic value in further research.
The study is a retrospective study of patients with RT-PCR confirmed presence of the Sars-CoV-2 virus who were hospitalized at the Zenica Cantonal Hospital. The study lasted from February to April 2021.
The results of the study, which included a sample of 302 participants, indicate that men were more represented in both the mechanical ventilation group and the recovered group, with 59.6% compared to women with 40.4%. Among the investigated biochemical and hematological parameters, there was a significantly higher number of leukocytes, urea, creatinine, LDH, and troponin in patients on mechanical ventilation, while the number of platelets was significantly higher in recovered patients. The most common comorbidity was hypertension in both groups of patients, with 24.5%. In patients on mechanical ventilation with cardiovascular disease, there was a significantly higher number of leukocytes, urea, creatinine, LDH, and troponin. In the same patients with three comorbidities, there was a significantly higher number of leukocytes, troponin, and LDH, while recovered patients without comorbidities had a significantly higher number of platelets.
The male gender and comorbidities remain a vicious circle in COVID-19 infection, while biochemical and hematological markers can help in forecasting and improve the clinical treatment of these high-risk patients.

The goal of this study was to determine the frequency and predictive factors of partial (PCI) and total clinical inertia (TCI) of general physicians (GPs) in Central Bosnia Canton in the care of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.
A longitudinal study was conducted with a prospective data collection. Total of 541 subjects of over 40 years of age with type 2 diabetes mellitus of both genders were included in the study. Total of 532 subjects completed the study. Questionnaires for physicians and patients and the Perceived Stress Scale were used, as well as anthropometric measurements and measurements of the glucose level in plasma, HbA1c, triglycerides, AST, ALT, creatinine and eGFR, which were examined on the day of study entry, after 6 months and after one year.
TCI was 5.8% and PCI was 25.6%. Patients with poorly regulated glycaemia and elevated triglyceride levels had the highest probability of PCI and TCI. Patients with an unaccomplished targeted level of blood pressure were more likely to experience PCI. Patients treated by both an internist and a general physician were more likely to have TCI as compared to patients treated only by an internist.
Patients with poor glycemic control experience PCI and TCI more often. In our study, referring to a diabetologist was observed as a non-inert procedure, which resulted in lower PCI and TCI, compared to studies where clinical inertia was defined only as non-intensification of medication therapy.
Introduction: The aim of the study was to determine the nitrites and nitrates content in fresh cow’s milk samples from milking machines, and to determine whether their amount is affected by the ...season of sampling (summer/winter).
Methods: The methodology used was analytical transversal method at 2-time points. All milk samples were sampled at milk machines from the City of Zagreb and Zagreb County, during the summer and winter months in 2020. A total of 40 milk samples were sampled, with 20 samples in each monitored period (summer/winter). A high-performance liquid chromatography with a diode array detector was used to identify and quantify concentrations of the nitrate and the nitrite content. The results were processed using descriptive statistics and the statistics of differences.
Results: The analysis determined the range of nitrate content from 1.28 mg/kg to 19.71 mg/kg and the range of nitrite content was from 0.49 mg/kg to 3.42 mg/kg in milk samples. The mean result of nitrates in fresh cow’s milk samples in the summer period was 9.12 mg/kg and in the winter period of 3.88 mg/kg. The mean value of nitrite in the summer was 1.23 mg/kg, while the mean value of nitrite in the winter period was 1.48 mg/kg.
Conclusion: The research has shown that the nitrate and the nitrite levels in local fresh cow’s milk sampled in milk machines do not exceed the maximum allowable intake. The obtained results confirmed that the amounts of nitrates and nitrites in the milk samples differ significantly during the winter and summer periods and differences are depending on the location of the milk machine.

Activities of AST, ALT, CK, LDH, Amy, and γ-GT were determined by standard kinetic methods on a Vitros 5600 biochemistry analyzer. Two daily quality controls (Verifier I and Verifier II) were run over 60 days. Total percent CV was calculated from routine daily QC. Between-instrument bias was also calculated from daily QC.
The calculated sigma metrics for AST were 6.9 and 3.8; for ALT 9.3 and 5.6; for CK 6.6 and 5.3; LDH 5.2 and 5.2; for γ-GT 4.9 and 2.7; and for amylase 8.7 and 7.1. Analytical performance for AST, ALT, CK, LDH, and Amylase is world class. On the other hand, γ-GT analytical performance is poor.

BACKGROUND The goal of this research was to determine the frequency of clinical inertia of general practice physicians in the region of Central Bosnia in healthcare for type 2 diabetes patients, to ...analyze characteristics of patients and physicians, as well as glucose regulation during clinical inertia, and, on the basis of these indicators, give recommendations for reducing clinical inertia. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study included 29 doctors, family physicians, or general practitioners, who collected data in a total sample of 541 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients from July to November 2017. The research was conducted using 2 questionnaires. The glucose concentration in plasma and the percentage of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were determined. Concertation of cholesterol, triglycerides, AST, and ALT were also measured. After the collection, new data were processed and the degree of clinical inertia was determined. RESULTS Levels of HbA1c ranged from 4.3% to 13.0%, and 38.4% of all patients had HbA1c level higher than 7.5%, while 8.3% of them had HbA1c level 9.0% or higher. Clinical inertia in our research was 12.6% out of all patients and 48.2% were referred to a specialist by their doctor. CONCLUSIONS For better regulation of glycemia and reduction of clinical inertia with type 2 diabetes patients, more specialized training is needed for selected physicians. Strengthening of primary healthcare and encouraging doctors to perform procedures can contribute to better outcomes of treatment, lower clinical inertia, and better education of patients.
Introduction: Insufficient physical activity is one of the leading public health problems in the world, but also in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Modern civilization is characterized by a significant ...decrease in physical activity, and the number of people whose lifestyle can be called sedentary has never been higher, which is especially emphasised among children and adolescents. Aim of the study is to examine public health significance of physical activity on the occurrence and the degree of obesity in children and adolescents in primary and secondary schools and to determine the applicability of the Fels questionnaire on physical activity of children in rural areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Methods: We used a transversal research method of a cross-sectional study at a one-time point, and for obtaining results we used the Fels physical activity questionnaire for children and measurement protocol.
Results: 276 primary and secondary school students in two cities participated in this survey. Respondents in Busovača are more physically active than their peers in Sarajevo. One-third of the total number of respondents is overweight and obese, and respondents in Sarajevo are significantly more nourished than their peers in Busovača. The Fels questionnaire is conditionally applicable, especially in rural areas.
Conclusion: This study confirmed that the Fels questionnaire for assessing the level of physical activity for children and young people, which is the general instrument for research of physical activity in children, is too generalized because it is based on a homogeneous urban population.
Introduction: The diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI) in preterm newborns with perinatal asphyxia based on increased serum creatinine (sCr) value and oliguria/anuria is usually delayed. The Aim of ...this paper is to evaluate serum cystatin C as an early predictor of AKI. Materials and methods:The study included 42 preterm newborns (24-37 weeks) with perinatal asphyxia (Apgar score (AS) ≤ 3 at 5 minutes of life or blood pH on admission ≤ 7.00). The sCr and sCys-C levels were measured on the 1st, 3rd, and 7th day of life. According to KDIGO criteria, the newborns were classified into groups, and sCr and sCys-C values were compared. Results: The mean gestational age was 29.9 ± 3.0 weeks. AKI was diagnosed in 62.8% of patients. Of these patients, 81.5% belonged to AKI 1 group, and 18.5% to AKI 2 group. No newborns had the criteria for AKI 3. On day 7 the mean sCr values were significantly higher in AKI (65.4 ± 21.8) compared with the non-AKI group (168.4 ± 38.2) (p < 0.001), but not on day 1 and 3 (p = 0.322, 0.012, respectively). The sCys-C values were significantly higher in the AKI group on day 3 (AKI vs. non-AKI group, 0.69 ± 0.22 vs. 1.22 ± 0.20; p < 0.001) and day 7 (AKI vs. nonAKI group, 0.62 ± 0.41 vs. 1.68 ± 0.20; p < 0.001). The sCys-C was also an earlier marker of a more severe stage of AKI than sCr. Conclusion: The sCys-C was elevated earlier than sCr, making it a valuable diagnostic tool for AKI in preterm newborns.
