•Our results indicate that support for redistribution depends on the existence of agency and procedural justice.•Without agency, i.e. when income is determined by luck, we observe very high demand ...for redistribution.•With agency, i.e. when everyone has options to take risk vs be safe, there is almost no demand for redistribution.•When only some have options to opt for risk and others are forced for safe and lower income, demand for redistribution increases again.
We investigate how the perceived fairness of an income distribution depends on the beliefs about the process that generates the inequality. Specifically, we examine how two crucial features of this process affect fairness views: (1) Procedural justice - equal treatment of all; (2) Agency – one's ability to determine his/her income. We do this in a lab experiment by differentially varying subjects’ ability to influence their earnings. Comparison of ex-post redistribution decisions of total earnings under different conditions indicate both agency and procedural justice to matter for fairness. Highlighting the importance of agency, we observe lower redistribution of unequal earnings resulting from risk when risk is chosen freely. Highlighting the importance of procedural justice, we find introduction of inequality of opportunity to significantly increase redistribution. Despite this increase, under inequality of opportunity, the share of subjects redistributing none remain close to the share of subjects redistributing fully revealing an underlying heterogeneity in the population about how fairness views should account for inequality of opportunity.
Edebiyat-ı Cedide Hareketinin yoğun kalem faaliyetlerinin Tevfik Fikret’in Servet-i Fünun dergisinin dört yıllık idare sürecinde (1896-1900) gerçekleşmesi bir tesadüf değildir. Bu dergi etrafında ...toplanan şair ve yazarlarla birlikte Türk edebiyatı yeni bir hamleye başlamıştı ve bunun mimarı Fikret idi. Bu itibarla Edebiyat-ı Cedide şiiri denildiğinde akla gelen ilk isim çoğunlukla Tevfik Fikret’tir. Türk şiirine hem biçim hem de dil ve üslup bakımından getirdiği yeniliklerle kendinden sonraki şiir hareketlerini de etkilemiştir.
II. Meşrutiyet Dönemi edebiyatının üretken yazarlarından Moralızade Vassaf Kadri’nin telif ve tercüme olmak üzere çeşitli edebî türlerde eser verdiği bilinmektedir. Ne var ki yazarın biyografisine ...ilişkin bilgiler hayli sınırlıdır. Kalem faaliyetleri ve yazarlığı üzerine yüksek lisans tezi yapılmış, Hint Yıldızı, Çakıcı’nın İlk Kurşunu, Kadınlar Komitesi isimli eserleri Latin harflerine aktarılmıştır. Ancak hakkında yapılan çalışmalarda yazarın hayatına dair bilgilerin, Sultan Murad isimli piyesinin ön söz niteliği taşıyan “İfadem” başlıklı kısmındaki cümlelerinden alıntılandığı ve birbirini tekrar ettiği görülmektedir. Yazarın biyografisine ilişkin bilgilere ulaşmak için yapılan araştırmada T.C. Cumhurbaşkanlığı Devlet Arşivleri Başkanlığı Osmanlı Arşivinde (BOA) Moralızade Vassaf Kadri’yle doğrudan ilişkili iki belge tespit edilmiştir. Belgelerin okunmasıyla yazarın mesleği, medeni hâli ve Berlin’de bulunmasının sebebi ortaya çıkmış; ayrıca I. Dünya Savaşında kullanılmak üzere ateşli silah icat ettiği ve bunun imal izni için başvuruda bulunduğu öğrenilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, BOA’da bulunan söz konusu arşiv belgeleri Latin harflerine aktarılarak verilecek, Moralızade Vassaf Kadri’nin pek bilinmeyen biyografisine ilişkin yeni bilgiler sunulacaktır.
It is known that Moralızade Vassaf Kadri who is one of the productive writers of Second Constitutional Era literature, had produced written works in various genres including copyright and translation. However, the information on the biography of author is limited. A master’s thesis was written about his complete writings and his authorship and also Hint Yıldızı, Çakıcı’nın İlk Kurşunu, Kadınlar Komitesi were transferred into Latin letters. However, in the studies, it is seen that the information about his life is quoted from the preface of his play Sultan Murad, titled “İfadem”, and what is written repeats each other. In the research carried to obtain information about his biography, two documents were found directly related to Moralızade Vassaf Kadri in the Republic of Turkey State Archives Ottoman Archives (BOA). The author’s profession, marital status and the reason for his stay in Berlin was revealed by reading these documents. It was also learned that he invented a firearm to be used in First World War and applied for the production permit. In this study, the archival documents in BOA will be transferred to Latin letters and new information will be presented about the unknown biography of Moralızade Vassaf Kadri.
The use of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) not only reduces the demand for natural aggregates (NA) but also might improve the behavior of soil under earthquake loading. In this study, the behavior ...of the pavement constructed using 100% RCA and NA on a sandy soil layer with high liquefaction potential under dynamic loads was investigated by numerical analysis and compared with free field conditions. For this purpose, first, the classical geotechnical properties of 100% RCA and NA materials were obtained, and then the stiffness properties were determined by resilient modulus and permanent deformation tests. In the second stage, three different models were created with pavement with NA and RCA and without pavement on high liquefaction potential sand, and dynamic analyses were carried out by PM4Sand. Numerical analyses show that constructing a subbase and base layers significantly reduces liquefaction-induced settlement on the surface of flexible pavements built on liquefied soils. Moreover, when the case of using RCA instead of NA in the subbase and base layers built on the liquefied soil is examined, the liquefaction-induced settlement values on the surface are obtained either lower or very close. Consequently, this study proposes a new alternative to the use of RCA waste materials instead of NA. It is expected the use of these waste materials will reduce the need for storage space and also reduce the negative environmental effects associated with storage.
This study investigated RCA as a sustainable, cost-effective NA substitute in road construction. Mixtures with 0-100% RCA were tested under freeze-thaw (F-T) cycles for resilience and deformation, ...compared to non-exposed controls. The F-T cycles, mix composition, and stiffness are interrelated. The resilient modulus of NA-RCA mixtures increased for up to 5 F-T cycles, then slightly dropped. The 50% NA + 50% RCA mixture showed improved stiffness, with average MR increasing from about 321 MPa to 420 MPa. The 100% NA sample's average MR dropped from about 220 MPa to 196 MPa after 5 F-T cycles. As RCA content increased to 50%, plastic deformation decreased from about 0.085% and then slightly increased. The 50% NA and 50% RCA blend showed the least plastic deformation (0.065%) in all F-T cycles, demonstrating RCA's effective use in road construction. This composition showed great stiffness and resilience even after multiple freeze-thaw cycles. These results support sustainable road construction without compromising performance. It is essential to note that the study's scope was limited to laboratory conditions, which may not fully represent real-world conditions. Future research should field test RCA and NA mixtures in various environments to validate the findings and assess long-term performance.
İnşaat yıkım atıklarından elde edilen malzeme miktarları arasında geri dönüştürülmüş beton agregaları (GDBA) ağırlıkça önemli bir paya sahip olup yol dolgularında kullanımı giderek yaygınlaşmaktadır. ...Yol alt temel ve temel tabakasında GDBA’nın dolgu malzemesi olarak %100 oranında kullanılması durumunda esneklik özelikleri de belirlenmeli ve kullanım uygunluğunun değerlendirilmesinde dikkate alınmalıdır. Diğer taraftan donma ve çözülme (D-Ç) süreci, malzemenin esneklik özelliklerini olumsuz yönde etkilemekte, yol uzun dönem performansını düşürmektedir. Bu nedenle yol dolgu malzemesi olarak kullanılan GDBA’nın donma çözülme etkisi ile esneklik özelliklerindeki değişim, yol tasarımında ve inşasında dikkate alınmalıdır. Bu çalışmada, İstanbul kentsel dönüşüm projesinden elde edilmiş GDBA’nın esneklik özelliklerine donma ve çözülme etkisi deneysel olarak incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla uygun dane çapı dağılımındaki GDBA ile hazırlanan numuneler üzerinde, farklı sayılarda D-Ç çevrimi sonrasında bir dizi esneklik modülü ve kalıcı deformasyon deneyleri yapılmıştır. Deney sonuçları esneklik modülünün bir eşik D-Ç çevrimine kadar arttığını, bu eşik değerden sonra bir azalma eğiliminde olduğunu, D-Ç çevrimlerinden sonra plastik deformasyon değerlerinde önemli bir değişiklik olmadığını, malzemenin plastik sünme davranışı sergilediğini göstermiştir. Ayrıca donma çözülme etkisini dikkate alan ve pratik amaçlar doğrultusunda esneklik modülü tahmininde kullanılmak üzere bir model önerilmiştir.
The strict control – or in other words, censorship – placed upon periodical alongside printing (press) activities during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II paved the way for poets and writers to turn ...to their inner worlds and produce works by putting art into the service of art itself. Numerous Turkish novels hailing from the Second Constitutional Period – which had given way to proclamation of the Second Constitutional Monarchy – reveal the richness of Turkish culture and literature in terms of diversification of subject variety and the linguistic richness. For example, Moralızade Vassaf Kadri’s novel Çarşamba Karısı offers us important data about language studies. In it, he frequently uses slang, alongside local idioms and dialect words – many of which are not included in the Derleme Sözlüğü. The book also contains various examples of aberrations from the standard language – including the accumulation and removal of affixes, the addition of morphemes to stereotyped language items, and polite language. This study will present both a biography of Moralızade Vassaf Kadri, as well as discuss – with examples – how he uses non-standard language in his novel Çarşamba Karısı.

süreci de yol uzun dönem performansını olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Bu çalışmada, İstanbul kentsel
dönüşüm projesinden elde edilmiş GDBA’nın esneklik özelliklerine donma ve çözülme etkisi deneysel
olarak incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla hazırlanan numuneler üzerinde, 1, 3, 5, 10 ve 20 D-Ç çevrimi sonrasında
esneklik modülü ve kalıcı deformasyon deneyleri yapılmıştır. Deney sonuçları esneklik modülünün 5 D-Ç
çevrimine kadar arttığını, bu eşik değerden sonra azalma eğiliminde olduğunu, D-Ç çevrimlerinden sonra
plastik deformasyon değerlerindeki değişimin %0,02 mertebesinde olduğu, GDBA’nın plastik sünme
davranışı sergilediğini göstermiştir. Yol alt temel ve temel dolgularında, ilgili şartnameler dikkate alınarak
doğal agrega yerine %100 oranında GDBA kullanımının uygun olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca donma
çözülme etkisini dikkate alan ve pratik amaçlar doğrultusunda esneklik modülü tahmininde kullanılmak
üzere bir model önerilmiştir.
This qualitative research study investigated the influence of YouTubers on adolescents’ identity construction by exploring interactions between YouTubers and adolescents. Towards this goal, this ...study intended to examine YouTubers’ role in adolescents’ lives in terms of mindset and daily practices. In this interpretative phenomenological study, the analyses of the data collected from 10 adolescents through semi-structured interviews revealed that YouTubers guided adolescents to become integrated into the society by noticing the similar aspects of their identities such as feelings, thoughts, and beliefs. Furthermore, YouTubers have been found to assist adolescents to discover their individuality through their videos and comments of other viewers on these videos. Also, it has been observed that the exploration option and range of social interactions extended thanks to the YouTubers. However, adolescents sometimes overly identified themselves with the YouTubers, imitated them and implemented the YouTubers’ recommendations without questioning.
Bu çalışmanın amacı ergenlerin kimlik inşasında YouTuberların etkisini araştırmak ve bu süreçte aralarında ne tür etkileşimler olduğunu keşfetmektir. Bu bağlamda, YouTuberların ergenlerin hayatındaki rolü, onların düşünce ve günlük pratiklerine etkilerini incelemektedir. Bu nitel çalışmada, ergenlerin kimlik deneyimleri hakkında derinlemesine bilgi toplamak için çoğunluğu İstanbul’da yaşayan 10 ergenle görüşme yapılarak veri toplanmıştır. Veriler, yorumlayıcı fenomenolojik analiz metodu kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları YouTuberların ergenlere kimliklerinin duygu, düşünce ve inançlar gibi benzeşen yönlerini fark ettirerek topluma entegre olmalarına katkı sağladıklarını göstermiştir. Bunun yanı sıra, YouTuberlar hem kendi çektikleri videolar hem de bu videolara başkalarının yaptığı yorumlar aracılığıyla, ergenlerin bireyselliklerini fark etmelerinde yardımcı olmaktadırlar. Ayrıca, YouTuberlar sayesinde seçeneklerin araştırması imkanın ve sosyal etkileşim alanının oldukça genişlediği görülmüştür. Yine de, ergenlerin zaman zaman Youtuberlarla fazla özdeşim kurdukları, onlara özendikleri ve onların önerilerini sorgulamadan uyguladıkları ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu bağlamda, ergenlerin ne derece etkilendiklerine dair farkındalıklarının düşük olduğu ve yeni medya okuryazarlığı becerilerinin yetersiz olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, ebeveynler, danışmanlar ve yetkililer için de uygulamaya dönük çıkarımlar tartışılmıştır.
