E-learning has become progressively more vital for academia and corporate training and has potentially become one of the most significant developments and applications in Information Technologies ...(ITs). This study used a quantitative approach seeking a causative explanation of the decision behavior of individuals toward the acceptance and assimilation of e-learning in academic settings. A survey of 286 participants (students) was conducted to collect the research data. Our study framework was based on the third version of the Technology Acceptance Model (i.e., TAM3) and the data were analyzed using structural equation modeling in order to determine the factors that influence the learners’ intention to use e-learning. Results show the predicting (promoting/inhibiting) factors of e-learning technology acceptance, while also examining some related post-implementation interventions expected to contribute to the acceptance and assimilation of e-learning systems. Our results also indicate that TAM3 holds well in the Arabian culture and also outline valuable outcomes such as: managerial interventions and controls for better organizational e-learning management that can lead to greater acceptance and effective utilization. Hopefully, this study provides a roadmap to more understanding of the success factors and post-implementation interventions contributing to the acceptance and assimilation of e-learning systems in developing countries.
Summary Background Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causes severe lower respiratory tract infection in people. Previous studies suggested dromedary camels were a reservoir for ...this virus. We tested for the presence of MERS-CoV in dromedary camels from a farm in Qatar linked to two human cases of the infection in October, 2013. Methods We took nose swabs, rectal swabs, and blood samples from all camels on the Qatari farm. We tested swabs with RT-PCR, with amplification targeting the E gene (upE), nucleocapsid ( N ) gene, and open reading frame (ORF) 1a. PCR positive samples were tested by different MERS-CoV specific PCRs and obtained sequences were used for phylogentic analysis together with sequences from the linked human cases and other human cases. We tested serum samples from the camels for IgG immunofluorescence assay, protein microarray, and virus neutralisation assay. Findings We obtained samples from 14 camels on Oct 17, 2013. We detected MERS-CoV in nose swabs from three camels by three independent RT-PCRs and sequencing. The nucleotide sequence of an ORF1a fragment (940 nucleotides) and a 4·2 kb concatenated fragment were very similar to the MERS-CoV from two human cases on the same farm and a MERS-CoV isolate from Hafr-Al-Batin. Eight additional camel nose swabs were positive on one or more RT-PCRs, but could not be confirmed by sequencing. All camels had MERS-CoV spike-binding antibodies that correlated well with the presence of neutralising antibodies to MERS-CoV. Interpretation Our study provides virological confirmation of MERS-CoV in camels and suggests a recent outbreak affecting both human beings and camels. We cannot conclude whether the people on the farm were infected by the camels or vice versa, or if a third source was responsible. Air-conditioning systems in Saudi Arabia consume approximately 65% of the electrical energy used in the building sector. Most air-conditioning systems in operation are of the vapor-compression ...variety. The use of solar energy to power such systems may save a large amount of electrical energy. Large-size commercial buildings in Saudi Arabia consume particularly high levels of electricity. This review compares three air-conditioning systems (conventional vapor-compression, solar LiBr–H2O absorption, and solar photovoltaic (PV) vapor-compression) using a techno-economic analysis for a typical large-size building under a constant cooling load during daytime. The study utilizes the two economic methodologies, payback period (PBP) and the net present value (NPV), for a commercial building in Khobar City, located in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. The purpose of this paper is to exploit the results achieved in the analysis to develop viable recommendations in mitigating the electrical peak power demand in Saudi Arabia by utilizing solar cooling technology in commercial buildings as well as to establish the tangible economic benefits from applying such technology. The results show that a solar absorption system ismoreeconomically feasible than a solar PV-vapor-compression system. Moreover, the feasibility of both solar-powered systems improves as the size of the commercial building and the electricity rate increase.
Plant-derived products have an imperative biological role against certain pathogenic organisms and were considered to be a major source of modern drugs. Rural people residing in developing countries ...are relying on traditional herbal medical system due to their strong believe and minimum access to allopathic medicines. Hence, ethnomedicinal knowledge is useful for the maintenance of community's based approaches under this medical system. Present study was carried out in an unexplored remote tribal area of Pakistan to investigate and document the existing ethnomedicinal knowledge on local flora.
Data was collected through semi-structured questionnaires from the community members and local herbalists. Use reports (URs) were counted for each species and analyzed through Linear Regression between the number of URs per family and number of plant species per family.
A total of 64 medicinal plant species were recorded belonging to 60 genera and 41 families. Most frequently used plant families in ethnomedicines were Lamiaceae (8 species) and Asteraceae (7 species). Highest URs were recorded for Caralluma tuberculata N.E. Br. (49 URs) being followed by Thymus serphyllum L. (49 URs), Fagonia cretica L. (47 URs), Plantago lanceolata L. (45 URs), Periploca aphylla Decne. (44 URs), Citrullus colocynthis (L.) Schrad. (44 URs), and Sideroxylon mascatense (A.DC.) T.D.Penn. (44 URs). New ethnomedicinal uses were reported for Boerhaavia elongata Brandegee and Fumaria officinalis L. with confidential level of URs from the study area. Nineteen groups of health conditions were recorded during the course of study being treated with medicinal plants. Maximum number of 30 plant species was used to treat digestive problems. Most widely practiced mode of drugs' preparation and administration was powder. Leaves (30% plants) were the most frequently used plant parts in the preparation of ethnomedicinal recipes.
Current study is an important addition to the field of ethnomedicines. The study reports important medicinal plants from an area, which has not been investigated previously. Traditional knowledge is restricted to health practitioners and elder community members. This knowledge is at the verge of extinction because younger generation is not taking interest in its learning and preservation process. Hence, there is a dire need to phytochemically and pharmacologically test the investigated taxa for the validation of traditional knowledge.
Waterpipe smoking is harmful and dangerous, and it is a growing threat to public health.
This study was performed to evaluate the influence of waterpipe smoking on global DNA methylation, DNA ...fragmentation, and protamine deficiency in spermatozoa compared to cigarette heavy smokers and nonsmokers, and to determine whether the transcription levels of spermatozoa nuclear proteins genes 'PRM1, PRM2, and H2BFWT' in waterpipe smokers are different compared to cigarette heavy smokers and nonsmokers.
A total of 900 semen samples were collected from males with a mean age of 32.5 ± 6.3 years (300 waterpipe smokers, 300 cigarette heavy smokers, and 300 nonsmokers). The nucleic acids were isolated from purified spermatozoa, and then the global DNA methylation and transcription levels of the PRM1, PRM2, and H2BFWT genes were assessed using ELISA and qPCR, respectively.
A significant increase was found in the level of global DNA methylation (8.6 ± 0.6 ng/μl vs. 7.1 ± 0.6 ng/μl and 4.7 ± 0.6 ng/μl, p < 0.001), protamine deficiency (72.8 ± 15.3 vs. 51.7 ± 19.2 and 15.3 ± 5.9%, p < 0.001), and DNA fragmentation (73.4 ± 13.4 vs. 50.5 ± 18.9 and 9.3 ± 4.3%, p < 0.001) in waterpipe smokers compared to cigarette heavy smokers and nonsmokers. A significant increase was shown in the transcription levels of PRM1, PRM2, and H2BFWT genes in waterpipe smokers compared to cigarette heavy smokers and nonsmokers (p < 0.001). A down-regulation was found in the transcription level of these genes in different smoker groups compared to nonsmokers (<0.001).
This study suggests that waterpipe smoking is more harmful than cigarette smoking on semen parameters, global DNA methylation, and transcription of nuclear protein genes.

For that, it was considered as a protective agent against the risk of diabetic nephropathy and can be used as alternative or complementary supplement.
Nowadays, phthalates widely employed in many products are distributed around us which contributed to the development of many chronic diseases. We investigated the incidence of type 2 diabetes ...mellitus (T2DM) in Saudi subjects and correlated it with urinary phthalate metabolites’ screening study.
We selected a total of 100 cases early diagnosed as type 2 diabetes mellitus (FBS ≥ 126 mg/dl, PP 2 h, ≥ 140 mg/dl) and 50 normal subjects (FBS ≤ 90 mg/dl) as control. Overnight fasting blood samples were subjected for assay of FBS, glycated hemoglobin, insulin, C-peptide, HOMA-IR, advanced glycation end products (AGEs), and urinary assay of some phthalate metabolite levels.
Data obtained showed a significant elevation of FBS, HA1c, AGEs, insulin, and C-peptide and HOMA-IR in diabetic patients compared with the control (
p
< 0.001). Urinary phthalate metabolites such as mono-ethyl phthalate (mEP), mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate (mEOHP), and mono-n-butyl phthalate (mBP) were detected in significant concentrations in diabetic patients compared with control. A positive correlation was found between mEP and mBP and HOMA-IR and C-peptide.
Phthalate toxicity is considered as one of the risk factors that contributed to insulin resistance and development of T2DM via increasing the levels of HOMA-IR and C-peptide.This will result in the risk of phthalate exposure for diabetogensis and its economic cost for treatment lifetime.
Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers leading to comorbidities and mortalities globally. The rational of current study was to evaluate the combined epigallocatechin ...gallate and quercetin as a potent antitumor agent as commentary agent for therapeutic protocol. The present study investigated the effect of epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) (150mg) and quercetin (200mg) at different proportions on proliferation and induction of apoptosis in human colon cancer cells (HCT-116). Cell growth, colonogenic, Annexin V in addition cell cycle were detected in response to phytomolecules. Data obtained showed that, the colony formation was inhibited significantly in CRC starting from the lowest concentration tested of 10 µg/mL resulting in no colonies as visualized by a phase-contrast microscope. Data showed a significant elevation in the annexin V at 100 µg/mL EGCG(25.85%) and 150 µg/mL quercetin (48.35%). Moreover, cell cycle analysis showed that this combination caused cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase at concentration of 100 µg/mL (72.7%) and 150 µg/mL (75.25%). The combined effect of epigallocatechin Gallate and quercetin exert antiproliferative activity against CRC, it is promising in alternative conventional chemotherapeutic agent.
Resumo O câncer colorretal (CCR) é um dos cânceres mais comuns, levando a comorbidades e mortalidade em todo o mundo. O racional do presente estudo foi avaliar a combinação de galato de epigalocatequina e quercetina como um agente antitumoral potente como agente de comentário para protocolo terapêutico. O presente estudo investigou o efeito de galato de epigalocatequina (EGCG) (150 mg) e quercetina (200 mg) em diferentes proporções na proliferação e indução de apoptose em células de câncer de cólon humano (HCT-116). O crescimento celular, colonogênico, anexina V, além do ciclo celular foram detectados em resposta a fitomoléculas. Os dados obtidos mostraram que a formação de colônias foi inibida significativamente no CRC a partir da concentração mais baixa testada de 10 µg/mL, resultando em nenhuma colônia conforme visualizado por um microscópio de contraste de fase. Os dados mostraram uma elevação significativa na anexina V a 100 µg/mL de EGCG (25,85%) e 150 µg/mL de quercetina (48,35%). Além disso, a análise do ciclo celular mostrou que essa combinação causou parada do ciclo celular na fase G1 na concentração de 100 µg/mL (72,7%) e 150 µg/mL (75,25%). O efeito combinado da epigalocatequina galato e quercetina exerce atividade antiproliferativa contra o CCR, é promissor como agente quimioterápico alternativo convencional.

A retrospective study of all cases of Microtia ...between the period from January 1988 to March 2020.
152 patients fulfilled the study criteria. The prevalence of microtia was 0.83 per 10,000 births. Analysis of the affected cases showed 56% males and 44% females. 66% of the cases were of the lobular type, and 30% were of the conchal type. Anotia cases were only 4%. Unilateral cases were predominant consisting 86% of the cases, of which 67% were on the right side. 70% of the cases had hearing problems and 35% of them required hearing aids. 14% were syndromic. Goldenhar and Treacher-Collins syndromes were the most common syndromes. Family history was present in 18% of the cases. 49% of them had parents’ consanguinity.

The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), a model of the user acceptance of IT, synthesizes elements from several prevailing user acceptance models. It has been credited with ...explaining a larger proportion of the variance of ‘intention to use’ and ‘usage behavior’ than do preceding models. However, it has not been validated in non-Western cultures. Using a survey sample collected from 722 knowledge workers using desktop computer applications on a voluntary basis in Saudi Arabia, we examined the relative power of a modified version of UTAUT in determining ‘intention to use’ and ‘usage behavior’. We found that the model explained 39.1% of intention to use variance, and 42.1% of usage variance. In addition, drawing on the theory of cultural dimensions, we hypothesized and tested the similarities and differences between the North American and Saudi validations of UTAUT in terms of cultural differences that affected the organizational acceptance of IT in the two societies.
