Linking educational research with teacher education is the starting point of this study. It is the way to answer to the new demands that the teaching profession is facing today. As well it is one of ...the challenges of teacher education at University. The study focuses on the experience of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).This exploratory study describes the results of 543 studentswho value their education and career expectations regarding their knowledge about educational research. The results lead to the conclusion that students perceive their training in research as still insufficient.
The competest is an instrument which has been designed to measure specific generic skills, by means of a self-evaluation, which are useful for the professional development of university students. ...This test is set within the framework of broader research aimed at collecting evidence to support maximizing the educational potential of sports in present-day university settings, thereby responding to an ever increasing demand for a development in professionalism within the university. The main objective of this article is the metric study of the questionnaire, which is based on a description of the process followed by the design and validation of the content of the competest and a summary of the empirical study done after carrying out a pilot test done with a sampling of 288 Spanish and Mexican university students and graduates, whose average age is 22, with 35.8% males and 64.2% females, together with a high percentage of participants active in sports (80.2%). The results show evidence towards the reliability of the questionnaire (a=0.958) and the concurrent reliability and validity of its items, as well as its usefulness for evaluating the impact in the self-perception of one's abilities of the practice of sports.
This study comes out as a step forward in a research line focused on validating empirically a systemic model of university quality. The article defines university quality in terms of three ...dimensions: functionality, effectiveness and efficiency. The focus of the article is on the analysis of the dimension of functionality as a starting point in the process of identifying and validating indicators for the evaluation of university quality. The core of the article integrates the presentation of the level and profile of functionality of the university for the total sample and for three audiences: faculty, students and employers. For each audience the study emphasizes the evaluation of the extent to which the university accomplishes its functions as a whole institution (level) and for each separate function (profile), as well as the differences among different strata of each audience. Finally, the study points out the differences in the profiles of functionality of the university observed by the different audiences, both as a whole institution and for each function. In the conclusions, a global vision of the level of functionality of the university, evaluated by the three audiences, is established.
This paper presents the findings of a research study of professors’ profiles for the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) conducted in five spanish universities. Through the application of ...qualitative methods of inquiry, the perceptions of several groups of university professors over the principal teaching qualifications necessary for the coordination of higher education throughout the European Union have been obtained. Data analysis indicates a significant discrepancy between actual Spanish professors and those required by EHEA. It has also made possible the detailed description of teaching competency profiles that professors believe to be fundamental for the new functions demanded of them in the present changing social and educational situation. INTRODUCTIONInfective endocarditis (IE) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an emerging complication. There are incomplete and disparate data on its incidence. We present the ...experience of a single-centre of incidence, mortality and associated factors of IE after TAVI. METHODSA retrospective observational study of IE cases in people who received a TAVI, between 06/01/2009 and 11/01/2017, in a university hospital, during a median follow-up period of 15.3months (interquartile range IQR 9.1-36.2). Incidence, clinical, microbiological and prognostic data, and factors associated with IE after TAVI were analysed. RESULTSEleven patients with IE of 200 TAVI were detected. Global incidence: 5.5% (2.77 cases per 100 patient-year). The median of days from TAVI to IE was 112 (IQR 36-578), the in-hospital mortality rate was 36.4%, and the one-year mortality rate was 54.5%. All the organisms identified were gram-positive (4 Enterococcus faecalis, 3 coagulase-negative Staphylococcus). The patients with IE after TAVI were significantly younger (median 78years, IQR 73-80, versus 82 years, IQR 79-84, P=.002), they had a higher EuroSCORE (5.1±2.4 versus 3.2±1.2, P<.001), and they more frequently had a history of neoplasia (18.2% versus 4.2%, P<.03) CONCLUSIONS: In our area, IE after TAVI has an incidence greater than that described in multicentre series, this is in line with the trend published in the literature. It leads to high mortality and is associated with a worse baseline clinical situation.
