Aiming at arbitrary failures of actuators and network attacks, the design problems of passive fault-tolerant/intrusion-tolerant robust H∞ controllers for island AC microgrid inverter systems are ...studied. The controller has a good ability to suppress external limited energy disturbances. First, a closed-loop system model including actuator failure was established; then, the network attack on the actuator is described as a special external interference to design a H∞ robust passive fault-tolerant/intrusion-tolerant controller, and the Lyapunov equation and linear matrix inequality are used to obtain sufficient conditions for the progressive stability of the closed-loop fault system. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the designed control law are verified through MATLAB simulation.
Background Surgical-site infection (SSI) after spinal surgery is the most common complication, which results in greater morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. Identifying risk factors of SSI is ...an important point for preventive strategies to reduce the incidence of SSI. The aim of this meta-analysis is to investigate the most important risk factors for SSI after spinal surgery. Methods PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were systematically searched to identify cohort or case-control studies that investigated the risk factors for SSI following spinal surgery. A fixed-effects or random-effects model was used to pool the estimates, depending on the heterogeneity among the included studies. Heterogeneity between the studies was assessed by I2 and Cochran's Q test. Results Twelve studies with a total of 13,476 patients met the inclusion criteria were included in this meta-analysis. Of them, 1 was a nested case-control studies, 7 were case-control studies, and 4 were cohort studies. The most important predictors of SSI were diabetes (risk ratio RR = 2.22, 95% confidence interval 95% CI 1.38–3.60; P = 0.001), prolonged operative times (>3 hours) (RR = 2.16, 95% CI 1.12–4.19; P = 0.009), body mass index more than 35 (RR = 2.36, 95% CI 1.47–3.80; P = 0.000), and posterior approach (RR = 1.22, 95% CI 1.05–1.41; P = 0.009). Conclusion Diabetes, prolonged operative times (>3 hours), body mass index more than 35, posterior approach, and number of intervertebral levels (≥7) are associated with an increased risk of SSI after spinal surgery. Almost all these risk factors are in line with the known risk factors for SSI in patients who underwent spinal surgery.
Abstract
The precise correction of water and energy balance is a significant difficulty in studying turbulence energy balance and water flow for agricultural purposes. The need for efficient water ...and energy management is growing as the world struggles to keep up with rising water and energy demands. This research examines artificial intelligence (AI)'s impact on the water flow and energy balance confluence subnetwork of sensing elements from all the original network's nodes. The study proposed an AI-based optimized sensor energy balance model (AI-SEBM) that uses pressure data to maintain energy balance in turbines and save water with the optimized energy source for agriculture usage. This research explores the potential for installing Kalpan hydraulic turbines, which are most effective during half-load operation, and to forecast all loads with little computing effort to balance energy in turbulence. To anticipate daily pressure readings and energy consumption across all nodes in the network, an AI-based optimization wireless sensor network is designed for communication and linked to an energy balance system. Sensors are strategically deployed at the network's nerve centres. The maximum flow algorithm is used for a grid representing the water and energy balance to determine the positions of the virtual nodes.
SOAP3 is the first short read alignment tool that leverages the multi-processors in a graphic processing unit (GPU) to achieve a drastic improvement in speed. We adapted the compressed full-text ...index (BWT) used by SOAP2 in view of the advantages and disadvantages of GPU. When tested with millions of Illumina Hiseq 2000 length-100 bp reads, SOAP3 takes < 30 s to align a million read pairs onto the human reference genome and is at least 7.5 and 20 times faster than BWA and Bowtie, respectively. For aligning reads with up to four mismatches, SOAP3 aligns slightly more reads than BWA and Bowtie; this is because SOAP3, unlike BWA and Bowtie, is not heuristic-based and always reports all answers.

Cloud computing offers low cost and highly flexible opportunities in bioinformatics. Its potential has already been demonstrated in high-throughput sequence data analysis. Pathway-based or gene set ...analysis of expression data has received relatively less attention. We developed a gene set analysis algorithm for biomarker identification in the cloud. The resulting tool, YunBe, is ready to use on Amazon Web Services. Moreover, here we compare its performance to those obtained with desktop and computing cluster solutions. Availability and implementation: YunBe is open-source and freely accessible within the Amazon Elastic MapReduce service at s3n://lrcv-crp-sante/app/yunbe.jar. Bilateral pedicle screw fixation (PS) after lumbar interbody fusion is a widely accepted method of managing various spinal diseases. Recently, unilateral PS fixation has been reported ...as effective as bilateral PS fixation. This meta-analysis aimed to comparatively assess the efficacy and safety of unilateral PS fixation and bilateral PS fixation in the minimally invasive (MIS) lumbar interbody fusion for one-level degenerative lumbar spine disease.
MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, BIOSIS Previews, and Cochrane Library were searched through March 30, 2014. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) on unilateral versus bilateral PS fixation in MIS lumbar interbody fusion that met the inclusion criteria and the methodological quality standard were retrieved and reviewed. Data on participant characteristics, interventions, follow-up period, and outcomes were extracted from the included studies and analyzed by Review Manager 5.2.
Six studies (5 RCTs and 1 CCT) involving 298 patients were selected. There were no significant differences between unilateral and bilateral PS fixation procedures in fusion rate, complications, visual analogue score (VAS) for leg pain, VAS for back pain, Oswestry disability index (ODI). Both fixation procedures had similar length of hospital stay (MD = 0.38, 95% CI = -0.83 to 1.58; P = 0.54). In contrast, bilateral PS fixation was associated with significantly more intra-operative blood loss (P = 0.002) and significantly longer operation time (P = 0.02) as compared with unilateral PS fixation.
Unilateral PS fixation appears as effective and safe as bilateral PS fixation in MIS lumbar interbody fusion but requires less operative time and causes less blood loss, thus offering a simple alternative approach for one-level lumbar degenerative disease.
In this paper, we analyze and optimize the most time-consuming steps of the SWAP-Assembler, a parallel genome assembler, so that it can scale to a large number of cores for huge genomes with ...sequencing data ranging from terabyes to petabytes. Performance analysis results show that the most time-consuming steps are input parallelization, k-mer graph construction, and graph simplification (edge merging). For the input parallelization, the input data is divided into virtual fragments with nearly equal size, and the start position and end position of each fragment are automatically separated at the beginning of the reads. In k-mer graph construction, in order to improve the communication efficiency, the message size is kept constant between any two processes by proportionally increasing the number of nucleotides to the number of processes in the input parallelization step for each round. The memory usage is also decreased because only a small part of the input data is processed in each round. With graph simplification, the communication protocol reduces the number of communication loops from four to two loops and decreases the idle communication time. The optimized assembler is denoted SWAP-Assembler 2 (SWAP2). In our experiments using a 1000 Genomes project dataset of 4 terabytes (the largest dataset ever used for assembling) on the supercomputer Mira, the results show that SWAP2 scales to 131,072 cores with an efficiency of 40%. We also compared our work with both the HipMer assembler and the SWAP-Assembler. On the Yanhuang dataset of 300 gigabytes, SWAP2 shows a 3X speedup and 4X better scalability compared with the HipMer assembler and is 45 times faster than the SWAP-Assembler. The SWAP2 software is available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/swapassembler.
Multi-task parallel algorithm is applied to accelerate the program of DNA Sequence Reads Compressor (DSRC), which is specialized for compressing DNA sequencing data file - FASTQ format file. The ...compression process is first divided into two parallel tasks: data process task and data input task. Then, the data process task is further divided into two parts: Title data process part and other data process part. Three high parallelism models for the Title data processing are developed: multi-CPU model, CPU+GPU model and CPU+MIC model. All three models are tested, and the result shows that nearly 3x acceleration can be achieved. The maximum throughput observed among all tested cases is 144MB/S, and the average throughput is 120MB/S. Research finds that the acceleration ratio depends on the types of sequencing platforms. The program performs better on data from the ILLUMINA and SOLiD sequencing platforms.
To explore the association between body mass index (BMI) and male primary osteoporosis (OP) in a Chinese Han population.
The association of BMI with OP was assessed in 276 Chinese healthy aged males ...for physical examination. They were classified into OP, osteopenia and normal groups according to the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria, i.e. OP was defined arbitrarily when any T-score was -2.5 standard deviations or less at femoral neck, total hip or lumbar spine (L1-4) site. We also classified the subjects as different BMI groups of low weight, normal weight, overweight and obesity. The prevalence of OP was compared among different BMI groups. We determined the sensitivity, specificity and area under the curve of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) for validating the valuation of BMI to predict male primary OP.
Among them, 6/12 had OP in the low weight group, 17.36% (21/121) in the normal group and 12.59% (18/143) in the overweight and obesity group. And the difference was significant. The analysis o
To explore the effects on degenerative single segmental lumbar spinal stability after posterior graded laminectomy and facetectomy by a finite element method.
A finite element model of L3-S1 segments ...with a single segmental degeneration at L4-5 level was established. Different models of L4-L5 segmental instability after posterior graded laminectomy and facetectomy were established. And interior 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 of laminar and bilateral facet joints were resected. Physical loads were applied to the models and the changes of range of motion (ROM) at L4-5 level in different models were recorded during flexion, extension, lateral bending and rotation.
As compared to preoperative model, after resecting 1/3 bilateral facet joints at L4-5 level, L4-5 segmental ROM increased 18% during flexion, 27% during extension and 45% during torsion. And the increased degree of ROM became more obvious along with a greater resection range of bilateral facet joints. No significant difference existed in L4-5 segmental ROM during later
