The approach-avoidance training program (AATP) has shown preliminary promise as an add-on to standard treatment for alcohol dependence. However, knowledge is lacking as to whether the effectiveness ...of AATP can be enhanced further when performed in a typical drinking situation. The main aim of this study is to investigate whether approach-avoidance training implemented in a virtual reality bar environment is superior to the classical joystick PC-version of the AATP.
The study will be implemented as a randomized controlled trial. A total of 204consecutively enrolled alcohol use disorder (AUD) patients, recruited from alcohol inpatient clinics in Germany, Poland and Denmark, will be randomized into one of three groups at the start of standard alcohol treatment: group A) stimuli-relevant AATP + treatment as usual (TAU); group B) stimuli-relevant AATP in virtual reality + TAU, and group C) TAU only (control group). Treatment outcomes will be assessed at pre-treatment, post-treatment and 3-month follow-up. Repeated-measures ANOVA will be applied to compare the trajectories of the groups over time on drinking, craving and impulsiveness outcomes. It is hypothesized that the two experimental groups will achieve better treatment outcomes compared to group C and that group B will achieve better outcomes than group A.
This study is the first trial examining the effectiveness of stimuli-relevant AATP delivered in a VR environment. The use of VR has shown promise in enhancing the effectiveness of other psychological treatments and since AATP has already been shown effective as add-on treatment, it is of interest to investigate whether these effects can be further enhanced by implementing the program in more ecologically valid environments. If proven effective, the AATP-VR can, like the AATP, be implemented easily and cheaply as add-on treatment or continued care to enhance the effectiveness of current evidence-based treatment.

Der letzte große Inquisitionsskandal in Spanien, der Fall Olavide (1775) und seine Folgen, führt in Bayern zum zentralen Zensurskandal der Katholischen Aufklärung und zeigt noch einmal die Wissenszirkulation in den drei Ländern. Zugleich plädiert der Beitrag für eine interkulturelle Buchgeschichte der Aufklärung.
Studying religions through the framework of tourist studies destabilizes conventional notions of ‘religion’ and introduces new questions for historians and other scholars who study religions in the ...Americas as well as for the academic study of religions more broadly. This essay briefly reviews key themes in regard to religious tourism, then considers some of the methodological and theoretical advantages of employing a touristic approach to the study of religions, and ends by suggesting avenues that show promise for future studies that pair religion and tourism. It includes discussions of religious pilgrimage, religious places and events that attract tourist visitors, and tourist destinations that feature religious themes or are intended to appeal specifically to religious adherents. It also discusses key theoretical works in developing a tourist studies methodological approach for the academic study of religions.
The past discussion on the necessity of church blessing for university theology instructors in Serbia has highlighted the legal elements and problems related to this issue. However, there is a ...theological dimension that is linked to the self-understanding of theology as a scholarly discipline: when theology is understood as a scholarly discipline, the same epistemological and theoretical conditions apply to it as to any other discipline – which does not exclude a special role of the church. Other scholarly disciplines also function in certain social and political contexts and are dependent on them to a certain extent. The role of theology is therefore not that exceptional. It is the right of every church to preserve its theological tradition, but the question remains open how this is best achieved. It is in the interest of theology, as well as of the church itself, to cede control over theology mostly to the scholarly discourse.

In the Ukrainian ecclesial crisis, the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) plays an important role. It claims Ukraine as its canonical territory and dismisses any action by the Ecumenical Patriarchate (EP) ...regarding Ukraine as illegal. The ROC therefore suspended communion with the EP when the latter granted autocephaly to the newly founded Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Nevertheless, the majority of Orthodox bishops in Ukraine belong to the Church in communion with the ROC. This paper analyzes the ROC's actions during the conflict over Ukrainian autocephaly, including the options it had and the possible paths to resolve the situation, which continues to affect not only the Church in Ukraine but Orthodoxy worldwide.
