What could entice one individual to have a sexual relation with another? The following article aims at answering this very question, apparently simple, while identifying different logics of sexual ...relationships. These logics range from free and unconditional gift to sexual exchange, as is paradigmatically practiced in prostitution. An adequate moral evaluation of prostitution will only be possible once it is placed in such a continuum; the major aim will then be to identify other examples of sexuality merchandizing outside this logic of exchange.
De même que ne rien dire équivaut, parfois du moins, à dire bien plus que toute parole pourrait jamais dire, ne pas punir pourrait aussi parfois équivaloir, dans un certain sens du moins, à la pire ...des punitions qu’un être humain puisse infliger à un autre être humain.

War is one of many ways humanity has thought out to decide conflicts which, for one reason or another, are not to be resolved by a rational discussion. In this contribution, I want to present some ...possible alternative options to real, i. e. large scale and lethal, war: playing war, playing a game and duel by representatives. These options will be evaluated according to four criteria, i. e. (1) their potential for representing real war, (2) their feasibility, (3) their degree of humanity and (4) their fairness.
Climate change will have as a consequence a more or less important rise of global sea levels. For some countries, this is likely to mean their total disappearance, if no measures are taken. Some of ...these measures might be too costly for the country to finance and its population will have no other choice but to migrate to another country. This contribution considers this kind of problem from the point of view of political philosophy. My arguments will rest on two fundamental assumptions. On the one hand, we find the state’s duty to protect its citizens against internal and external dangers, and on the other, the individual’s right not to have to migrate. Each state must protect its own citizens against foreign dangers. It will also be assumed that no state has a right to endanger the very existence of another state. The contribution aims to show some of the major consequences of these assumptions for the ethical problem of migration due to the consequences of human-induced climate change.
According to many authors, the practice of amnesty is incompatible with the rule of law (Rechtsstaat), since an amnesty amounts to a denial of justice and rule of law demands that justice be done. ...The aim of this paper is to show that such an incompatibility is not as evident as it seems to be. The paper begins with a presentation of three basic goods a Rechtsstaat owes its citizens: protection against violence, the guarantee that law and not arbitrary will reigns in the political institutions, and the feeling of being respected as a full and equal member of the political community. Before showing, in the final chapter, that amnesty is compatible with the protection of these goods, I first discuss the notion of amnesty, showing that we should bracket the pathos of forgiveness often associated with amnesty as well as the idea of oblivion, and concentrate on the fact that an amnesty means the absence of criminal prosecutions and that in this sense it has an analogy with prescription. This conceptual discussion is followed by a brief overview of some ethical - and not merely political - reasons justifying amnesties.
Though Islamic penal law has been made the object of many studies, hardly any of these studies has taken as its specific object the question of the justification of punishment. It will be shown that ...Islamic thinkers have conceived this justification as to be primarily preventive in nature - general prevention. But it will also be shown that these thinkers have insisted on the fact that there are alternatives to punishment and that the victim should sometimes rest content with a reparation. In this contribution I will consider the views of theologians as well as those of philosophers and I will also distinguish between divine and human punishments.
