Biomolecule-functionalized fluorescent gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) have attracted a lot of attention because of their good biocompatibility and considerable environmental/cost advantages. Recently, ...some proteins rich in tyrosine and cysteine have been proven to work as templates for the direct synthesis of AuNCs under alkaline conditions. However, the low quantum yield (QY) of AuNCs is still a restraining factor, which constrains its wide applications. In this study, highly fluorescent AuNCs have been synthesized in a basic aqueous solution using ovalbumin (OVA) as both a reducing and stabilizing agent. The QY of the ovalbumin-stabilized AuNCs (OVA@AuNCs) was found to be twice that of the reported BSA-stabilized AuNCs (BSA@AuNCs) under the same conditions. Moreover, the good pH stability and time stability of the OVA@AuNCs were examined. These properties will be helpful for AuNCs-based sensing and imaging. Further research revealed that the fluorescence of the OVA@AuNCs could be quenched by Hg
2+
and it can be used as a sensor for sensitive Hg
2+
detection with a detection limit of 10 nM.
Highly fluorescent Au nanoclusters were synthesized using ovalbumin (OVA) as a template. The application of the nanoclusters for the detection of mercury ions was also achieved.
SNiPER (Software for Non-collider Physics ExpeRiments) has been developed based on common requirements from both nuclear reactor neutrino and cosmic ray experiments. The design and implementation of ...SNiPER is described in this proceeding. Compared to the existing offline software frameworks in the high energy physics domain, the design of SNiPER is more focused on execution efficiency and flexibility. SNiPER has an open structure. User applications are executed as plug-ins based on it. The framework contains a compact kernel for software components management, event execution control, job configuration, common services, etc. Some specific features are attractive to non-collider physics experiments.
A total of 94 actinomycete strains were isolated from the marine sediments of a shrimp farm, 87.2% belonged to the genus Streptomyces, others were Micromonospora spp. Fifty-one percent of the ...actinomycete strains showed activity against the pathogenic Vibrio spp. strains. Thirty-eight percent of marine Streptomyces strains produced siderophores on chrome azurol S (CAS) agar plates. Seven strains of Streptomyces were found to produce siderophores and to inhibit the growth of Vibrio spp. in vitro. Two of them belonged to the Cinerogriseus group, the most frequently isolated group of Streptomyces. The results showed that streptomycetes could be a promising source for biocontrol agents in aquaculture.PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
Nb thin films were deposited onto Si wafers by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering at different deposition pressures. The microstructure and nanomechanical properties of Nb films were ...investigated by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer, transmission electron microscope, atomic force microscope and nanoindenter. The results revealed that the grain size, thickness, surface roughness, the reduced elastic modulus (
E
r) and hardness (
H
) values of Nb thin films increased at the pressure range of 0.61–0.68 Pa. Meanwhile, the porosity of Nb films decreased with the increase in deposition pressure. The lattice deformation of Nb thin films changed from negative to positive with the increase in deposition pressure. It is concluded that deposition pressure influences the microstructure and nanomechanical properties of Nb films.
In this paper, we extend the susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) epidemiological model on a random dynamical network composed of mobile individuals, in which the infection is caused by the ...collisions between susceptible and infected individuals at the spreading rate proportional to their susceptibilities and infectivities. We analytically study the criticality of spreading dynamics under different distributions of individual susceptibility and infectivity, and numerically verify the cases of power-law and (or) Gaussian distributions. Our findings show that the heterogeneity of individual susceptibility and infectivity increases the epidemic threshold, and the positive correlation of individual susceptibility and infectivity avails to the epidemic prevalence.
The typical transverse momentum of a quark in the proton is a basic property of any QCD based model of nucleon structure. However, calculations in phenomenological models typically give rather small ...values of transverse momenta, which are difficult to reconcile with the larger values observed in high energy experiments such as Drell-Yan reactions and Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. In this letter we calculate the leading twist transverse momentum dependent distribution functions (TMDs) using a generalization of the Adelaide group's relativistic formalism that has previously given good fits to the parton distributions. This enables us to examine the kT dependence of the TMDs in detail, and determine typical widths of these distributions. These are found to be significantly larger than those of previous calculations. We then use TMD factorization in order to evolve these distributions up to experimental scales where we can compare with data on 〈kT〉 and 〈kT2〉. Our distributions agree well with this data.
Two cases of epidemic situation of serogroup B meningitis in infants in Shandong Province in 2021 were investigated. Samples of cases and their close contacts were collected for isolation, culture ...and identification of
(
). The isolates were subjected to multi-locus sequence typing, outer membrane protein
and
genotyping and drug sensitivity test. Two laboratory-confirmed outbreaks of serogroup B meningitis were reported from Yantai city and Linyi city. The indicated cases were infants aged 5 months and 2 months old respectively. They were not vaccinated with meningitis vaccine. Their epidemiological characteristics and clinical manifestations were similar and the prognosis was good. The same sequence type (ST) of serogroup B
strains as the indicated cases was detected in the samples of close family contacts, but without subsequent cases. Among them, Yantai strain was were identified as the type ST-8920, belonging to CC4821 clonal complex, and the genotypes of
and
were p1.21-2, 23 and F3-1. Linyi strain was a
Nonlinear integrated optics leveraging platforms with high nonlinear figure of merit offer energy efficient optical signal processing capabilities. Over the last five years, CMOS-compatible ...ultra-silico-rich nitride (USRN) has emerged as a promising platform on which to implement various nonlinear optics functions. Bandgap engineered to maximize the Kerr nonlinearity while maintaining two-photon absorption free behavior at telecommunications wavelengths, USRN possesses a nonlinear refractive index that is 100× larger than that in stoichiometric silicon nitride. In this article, we review the recent progress made in USRN-based nonlinear integrated optics devices. The impacts it has made spanning from high gain optical parametric amplification and observations of soliton effects in photonic waveguides and photonic crystal waveguide structures will be discussed. Finally, we assess the future outlook of CMOS-compatible USRN-based nonlinear optics.
The aim of the present study is to use the syndemic framework to investigate the risk of contracting HIV in the US population. Cross-sectional analyses are from The National Health and Nutrition ...Examination Survey. We extracted and aggregated data on HIV antibody test, socio-demographic characteristics, alcohol use, drug use, depression, sexual behaviours and sexually transmitted diseases from cycle 2009-2010 to 2015-2016. We carried out weighted regression among young adults (20-39 years) and adults (40-59 years) separately. In total, 5230 men and 5794 women aged 20-59 years were included in the present analyses. In total, 0.8% men and 0.2% women were tested HIV-positive. Each increasing HIV risk behaviour was associated with elevated odds of being tested HIV-positive (1.15, 95% CI 1.15-1.15) among young adults and adults (1.61, 95% CI 1.61-1.61). Multi-faceted, community-based interventions are urgently required to reduce the incidence of HIV in the USA.
Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) particulate organic carbon (POC) ...concentration products for the South China Sea (SCS) were compared with in situ data collected from October 2007 to December 2013. Spectral remote-sensing reflectance (R ᵣₛ,λ) was also measured to help understand POC algorithm performance. A strict comparison of the satellite-derived POC and in situ measurements showed that MERIS, MODIS, and SeaWiFS underestimated in situ values by 29.1, 11.7, and 31.5%, respectively. Similar results were obtained with a relaxed matching criterion. Through analysis of the causes of product uncertainty, the results suggested that satellite retrieval of R ᵣₛ,λ and the global POC algorithm both have an impact on inversion accuracy. However, the formulation of the POC algorithm seems to be more critical. When a regional algorithm was developed to obtain satellite-derived POC, both the strict and relaxed comparison results showed significant improvement, but for coastal waters, both algorithms had larger errors. Other factors affecting the comparison are also discussed.
