The feasibility of a high energy electron cooling device, has been studied through tests on a prototype of the electron device. The apparatus consists of a pulsed (20-6O KeV, 2 μs) electron gun, a ...drift region 1 m long and a depressed collector to recover the electron energy. Tests on beam optics and energy recovery have been performed, a high efficiency for energy recovery has been obtained. The high energy device project is in progress.

Dans une colonie d’abeilles sans reine ni couvain, les ouvrières tendent à devenir fertiles etinvestir leur énergie dans la ponte d’oeuf non-fécondés. Afin de maintenir une certainestabilité dans ...l’organisation de la colonie et prévenir ce détournement de l’investissementénergétique des ouvrières, la reine garantie son statut de seule reproductrice et le couvainaccapare le soin des ouvrières. Pour cela, ils émettent des phéromones peu volatiles. Laphéromone mandibulaire (principalement le 9-ODA) émis par la reine ainsi qu’un mélange de10 esters émis par le couvain. Ces composés permettent une castration chimique partielle desouvrières. Cependant, parmi les deux facteurs de régulation de la maturation ovarienne desouvrières, il semble que la présence de couvain soit le plus actif. Nous nous sommes doncdemandé si les larves ne pourraient pas émettre des molécules très volatiles ayant un rôle surle développement ovarien des ouvrières. Les composés volatiles larvaires ont donc étéprélevés par Microextraction sur phase solide (SPME), puis analysés et identifiés par GC-MS.Le pic majeur retrouvé dans tous les échantillons est une molécule hautement volatile, l’E-β-ocimene. Nous avons testé l’effet de cette molécule sur la croissance des ovaires d’ouvrièresélevées en cagette. Les résultats indiquent un effet inhibiteur significatif de l’E-β-ocimene surle développement ovarien des ouvrières. Cette nouvelle phéromone, dont les effets sontidentiques à ceux produits par la phéromone mandibulaire de la reine, montre que différentsacteurs, utilisant différentes phéromones, peuvent induire un même effet sur le mêmeorganisme cible. De nouveaux tests sont nécessaires pour comprendre si les trois phéromonesdécris ici, régulant la fertilité de la colonie d’abeilles, peuvent agir ensemble pour unecastration chimique totale des ouvrières

Irregular menstrual cycles are fairly common in drug-addicted patients. The purpose of this research is to stablish the connection between the administration of a narcotic and the onset of ...amenorrhoea. After a review of the literature and aetiopathogenetic hypotheses regarding ovulatory block, 39 heroin- or morphine-addicted patients personally observed during pregnancy are studied. Even relatively low doses of narcotics can impair normal ovarian function and ovulation so there is a risk that menstrual irregularities can arise even when doses are reduced.
Two-hundred-forty-eight patients undergoing abdominal surgery were admitted to a multicentric clinical trial. The patients were randomly assigned to a single i.v. dose of ketoprofen or ...acetylsalicylic acid, 15 minutes after the end of operation. Ketoprofen showed a better analgesic activity with a statistically significant difference at 2 and 4 hours after administration. Two patients treated with ketoprofen reported vomiting and skin rash respectively. The results of this study confirm the efficacy of ketoprofen for the prophylaxis of postoperative pain in abdominal surgery.
The French nuclear safety authority (NSA) and its technical support (IRSN) started very early a process aimed at producing experience feedback to enrich initial safety analyses of nuclear research ...installations. The evolution of the regulatory framework dealing in France with experience feedback was very progressive. A technical and administrative organisation has been set up. Simultaneously, an important event database has been made available. NSA also plays a crucial role to liven up experience feedback between different operators. Finally, this paper presents the assessment and evaluation by NSA of the operational experience feedback from research nuclear facilities in France.
In order to estimate the renal plasma flow and glomerular filtration rate during the course of renography, a method was developed using simultaneously 131I Hippuran and 169Yb DTPA. First results ...obtained in a survey of approximately 200 patients are encouraging. The method permits an accurate evaluation of the renal function. In addition, by comparing the clearance rate of the two radiocompounds one can also obtain some interesting diagnostic information which can contribute usefully to the interpretation of renographic tracings and/or gamma camera sequential images.
