The article focuses on how Michel Foucault made use of psychoanalysis, of which he was a great reader in the 1950s, mainly Freud. If the psychoanalysis is sometimes enrolled in a “psy-function” and ...is not the subject of a specific course at the Collège de France like psychiatry, it nevertheless appears as a long-standing problem, a reference that persists throughout Foucault’s work, even if it is approached in a very pointillist way. In this sense, it has a separate status within this function, sometimes contradictory, sometimes quite obscure, sometimes the matrix of all disciplinary institutions, sometimes the form of depsychiatrization outside asylum. Alongside an “instrumental” use that is bound to the problem of knowledge-power, there are some quite singular uses. Foucault thus manipulates the concept of the unconscious to the point of making it completely heterogeneous to the knowledge developed by Freud and revised by Lacan.
It’s easy to forget that physiognomony was a successful story since it seems nowadays to be Lavater’s fantasy deeply rooted in its time. Not for the philosopher and psychiatrist François Dagognet. He ...indeed tries to “upgrade” the physiognomony with the aim to find a new way to decipher the inner based on the outside and therefore founds a biopsychiatry. The status of the speech is of a particular interest to understand the theoretical position of Dagognet.
The sage or the poet is an ancient figure of the protest against the power in the name of justice, long before the noun « intellectualist » has been invented in the context of the Alfred Dreyfus ...Affair. Since this inaugural point, it becomes an object of unceasing struggle to determine to wich category of intellectualist belong people who voice in the public area in accordance with their specific knowledges. The reflection of Michel Foucault who highlights the specialised intellectualist is of a great importance in a period of disparagement of intellectualists. Without taking Foucault’s category too seriously, we have to pay attention to his insistence of connecting the function to a politics of the subject and of taking responsability for the establishment of a link to the truth necessary to the democracy.

Alors que La volonté de savoir s’annonce comme une archéologie de la psychanalyse et que certains voient en Foucault un « penseur de la psychanalyse », les références précises aux grands textes de la ...psychanalyse sont rares chez Foucault. Ses années de formation l’ont pourtant familiarisé avec les textes de Freud notamment, ainsi que le montrent les fiches de lecture conservées dans les archives Foucault. Force est de constater que cet intense effort de lecture laisse peu de traces dans son œuvre. Et lorsqu’il l’évoque aussi bien dans ses écrits que ses dits, Foucault est le plus souvent approximatif. Contrairement à l’interprétation commune, en lecteur de Politzer, il est en réalité très tôt embarrassé par l’hypothèse de l’inconscient. Et quand il se met à articuler ses recherches autour de la notion de savoir-pouvoir, son usage de la psychanalyse devient stratégique et de plus en plus éloigné des textes. « Être juste » avec la psychanalyse ne fait dès lors pas partie des préoccupations de Foucault. Quitte à alimenter bien avant l’heure le « livre noir » de la psychanalyse.

While La Volonté de Savoir is presented as an archaeology of psychoanalysis and some see Foucault as a “thinker of psychoanalysis”, precise references to major psychoanalysis works are rare in ...Foucault. Nevertheless, his formative years familiarised him with the texts of Freud in particular, as demonstrated by the reading notes kept in the Foucault archives at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. However, it must be acknowledged that this intense reading work has left little trace in his work. And when Foucault evokes the subject in his writings and sayings, his manner of doing so is most often vague. From the very start, as a reader of Politzer, Foucault has in fact found the hypothesis of the unconscious very awkward – which runs against the common interpretation. And when he began to articulate his research around the notion of knowledge-power, his use of psychoanalysis became strategic and grew increasingly removed from the texts. Being “fair” with psychoanalysis was therefore not one of Foucault’s concerns, even if that has meant feeding the “black book” of psychoanalysis well before its time.
This paper investigates scientists’ conceptual borrowings from science fiction through the case of Philip K. Dick’s The Minority Report. In this short story, K. Dick depicts New York City as a ...crime-free society, thanks to the work of a police division, Precrime, whose function is to arrest criminals-to-be before they actually commit any crime. This writing has spurred academics’ attention, including criminologists and neuroscientists. While some of them propose a utopian reading of K. Dick’s ideas, other accentuate its dystopian dimension, depending on whether they are proponents or critics of the use of predictive methods in the criminal justice system. Moreover, we show that while critics tend to inscribe The Minority Report into a regime of truth that tells something about the current state of our societies, proponents tend to elaborate futuristic visions that come to complement and extend Philip K. Dick’s.
