On a global public health problem, the growing number of people with dementia, especially the Alzheimer’s type, sensibly speaks film industry. Given the wide visibility and accessibility to all groups, the film plays a significant role in approaching, according to experts, the leading diseases of today, which affects the cells of the cerebral cortex and the surrounding structure, primarily the hippocampal region, causing patients to lose mental, physical and mental abilities. Three films that are more recent productions have been analyzed and all three have experienced considerable commercial success, therefore wide visibility, and deal with the problem of dementia as their backbone. The film The Father shows the cruelty of dementia »from within«, Still Alice almost in documentary manner follows the development of the disease, while in Supernova we follow the initial features of frontotemporal dementia. Observing the film as a cultural by-product, at the same time very visible, its role in shaping the social perception of a certain topic is highly important. Cultural artefacts dealing with Alzheimer’s disease in general, film in particular, contain some responsibility in socially accepting or, on the other hand, marginalizing the people who live with it. They shape the way we think and even act in relation to illness, and as film acts as a mirror of social reality, its power is to make some change or at least a reaction. It can be concluded that the film really contributes to awareness and understanding. The film can raise awareness that dementia is not the same as old age, forgetfulness or, even, that global loss of cognitive abilities is not insanity by choice, and that family and close friends caring for such patients also strongly suffer.

Doprinos ostvarivanju ovih ciljeva prikazat će se kroz neposredno iskustvo uključivanja osoba s intelektualnim teškoćama u izvedbene umjetnosti, u proces stvaranja i javnog predstavljanja dvaju glazbeno-scenskih kolaža.
The involvement of people with intellectual disabilities in the fields of services in culture and art as well as their artistic expression and creativity, has not advanced much in the Republic of Croatia. This is slowly changing, especially through projects of non-governmental organizations co-financed by the EU funds or foreign organizations. Direct contact of artists with people with intellectual disabilities has proven to be an invaluable source of support enabling them to express themselves creatively and artistically and to participate themselves in the creation and consumption of art. At the same time, the added value of the creative and artistic expression of persons with intellectual disabilities involved in the activities are benefits in the physical, psychological and social fields. The analysed project is an invaluable source of support for the educational and rehabilitation profession, being the prevalent professional advocate of the idea of inclusion of people with disabilities. Also, the artists have enriched their own experience by participating in a completely new field of artistic creation. In the synergy of people with intellectual disabilities and artists, beautiful performing arts works were created that were publicly presented showing that there is public interest. However, it has also showed the necessity to invest efforts in different sectors in order to make such activities a public interest. Further research of the theme would be a welcome contribution.
Diffuse hotels represent a model of associated destination hospitality in the function of revitalizing villages and small towns in rural areas by putting in the tourist function existing ...facilities/buildings that have the status of traditional construction and ambient architecture. The aim is to popularize the historical core and the concerned area through tourist services, i.e. to encourage the development of authentic tourist services and, at the same time, to preserve and popularize traditional culture and generate revenue/income throughout the community, i.e. to encourage new value. Due to the specificity of the tourist offer in the Republic of Croatia, a model of integral hospitality has been developed in the function of the association of existing bidders. Both models are recognized in Croatian legislation. This article analyzes the characteristics of the model of diffuse and integral hotels, special attention is paid to the presentation and critical analysis of the existing Croatian legislation, and provides guidelines/suggestions for its improvement. The research problem of this article consists in the analysis of limiting factors in the business connection of the private sector through the diffuse hotel model. The key innovations and contribution of this article in the research of the business model of a diffuse hotel in Croatia are reflected in concrete proposals for improving the organization of diffuse hotels, improving existing legislation and strengthening the competitive strength of Croatian tourism by encouraging authentic destination tourism products.
Social entrepreneurship in the Republic of Croatia is a relatively new concept. The issue of the development of social entrepreneurship in the Republic of Croatia is closely related to the lack of an appropriate legal framework, and with the still insufficiently clear criteria for recognizing social entrepreneurs. Cooperatives have a strong potential as one of the instruments of economic and local development, especially social cooperatives that help the socially disadvantaged, the infirm and people in difficult life situations. Veterans belong to a vulnerable group in Croatian society, whose integration into society is still difficult for a number of reasons. Some of the factors are the insufficiently clear and harmonized legislative framework, the insufficient social welfare system and the generally unfavourable social environment. Therefore, veterans’ social working cooperatives represent a potential form of association that enables veterans to be more easily included in society, with the development of entrepreneurial activities and at the same time achieving a positive social role. The assessment of the state of cooperatives in the Republic of Croatia showed that the veterans’ population is insufficiently informed about the possibilities of acting within the framework of social entrepreneurship. This paper specifically considers the potential of veterans’ social working cooperatives as work integration social enterprises. Given that long-term unemployed Croatian veterans of the Homeland War and members of their families are often in the group of hard-to-employ persons, there is a need to take certain measures aimed at strengthening their competitiveness in the labour market.
U turističkom smislu Podravina čini zasebnu cjelinu, posebno povijesno, kulturno, prirodno i socijalno odredište s vlastitim specifičnostima i resursima.

A well-told story has always been the cornerstone of good marketing and business, that is, »sales« and products and destinations. Faced with increasing competitiveness and increasingly demanding ...visitors seeking active nature tourism and integrated facilities, tourism stakeholders face the challenges of designing innovative tourism content that will, above all, »tell the story« and create a full, multisensory experience. Main ingredient of this holistic approach to destination development reflects primarily in the fact that the community is involved into all facets of development. The location turns into a destination once a location is harmonized with the needs of the tourists. Involving visitors in the life of the destination decreases the negative impact tourism might have and creates sustainability.
How does this process work in the case of natural disasters or pandemic crises? How can storytelling become an important vehicle for connecting people and creating a disaster resilient cultural heritage? What are the tools in disaster risk management especially when we talk about cultural heritage? The underlying question is also: how do/may social innovation/participatory governance contribute to a more resilient and inclusive, cultural heritage and how can such approaches be improved and applied across Europe?
This paper will explain the importance of storytelling in the context of pandemic crises as COVID-19 is, but also other natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods that are due to climate change and manmade influence more frequent than ever. Based on the results of research and examples of good practice (Croatian and European), this paper will identify basic steps and tools that can help both private and public stakeholders create quality product and content. By using examples of case studies, it will also argue that innovative approaches and participatory governance could contribute to a more resilient and inclusive cultural heritage and ultimately desired tourist destinations.
Strategic product development in the offer of specific forms of tourism takes place very dynamically and is an example of using the diversification strategy as the dominant development strategy. Once ...relatively inelastic market offers, it becomes more elastic and with the market demand realizes new forms of partnership based on meeting the demand of each tourists individually. A large number of tourist offer products are adjusted to a smaller segment of consumers, i.e. tourists. The life span of tourism products and services is relatively short. The research for this paper is of a scientific character; it is motivated by the applicative need and in that sense it is applicable. Within the framework of economic science, the basic goal of the paper is to establish and analyze elements in the market that determine the development of medical tourism. The aim is to explore the place and role of strategic management in the function of products and services distribution for medical tourism. The paper attempts to explore the relevance of the valorization potential of medical tourism in the continuous efforts to improve tourism in the Republic of Croatia. This is shown by an analysis of the implementation of the priority tourism policy measures defined by the Strategy for development of tourism of the Republic of Croatia to 2020, i.e. the implementation of the Action Plan for development of health tourism of the Republic of Croatia in relation to the anticipated dynamics of the implementation of the proposed programs. Regarding the programs, in order to increase the competitiveness of medical tourism, the paper discusses the improvement of quality offers in the field of medical tourism through the implementation of quality, accreditation and certification of health facilities. Also, activities carried out at the current moment in the field of medical tourism in the Republic of Croatia are also shown.
Dubrovnik is one of the most visited destinations on the Adriatic coast. However, the large number of visits is affecting the heritage area of the city, and since the Old City of Dubrovnik have been ...under the UNESCO protection from 1979 it is important to achieve the balance between tourism and sustainability of the heritage site. The use of smart and open data can improve tourism flow management in cultural heritage sites.
The aim of this paper is to identify innovative solutions, with the support of new technologies and big data, in order to reduce negative impacts of tourism on cultural heritage sites. The set of indicators are defined and a holistic model is proposed to analyse these data and use them in sustainable management of cultural heritage cities. The newly developed smart holistic models are presented in the case of the City of Dubrovnik since it is largely dedicated to tourism. The analysis of tourist flows in the City of Dubrovnik has been done following a system of indicators developed by the Agency for sustainable Mediterranean cities and territories in the framework of Interreg Mediterranean project HERIT-DATA that consists of 21 indicators divided into 6 groups. A large number of tourists are affecting not only space and infrastructure, but also the life of residents. Therefore, it is of the greatest importance to manage tourism in a more holistic and sustainable way and to find the balance between tourism and its economic contributions and sustainability.
The proposed set of indicators and a new smart holistic model will help policy makers, destination managers, cities and sites to anticipate and manage the tourism flows in a smarter way. The results of the analysis showed that the overtourism in Dubrovnik has still not affected the infrastructure and environmental conditions, but it greatly affects the residents of the city and their quality of life. Also, the smart solution for managing the tourism flows in the Old City of Dubrovnik already exists, in the form of Application for the prediction of the number of visitors, but it should be used in a way that helps better manage the tourist flows.
The tourist potential of Croatia’s cultural assets has been recognized and there is evidence of strong demand for such products amongst both domestic and international tourists. Croatia from the ...standpoint of offer, with picturesque settlements, rich and various history, historic urban and rural areas, and with tourism developed in the coastal area has good prerequisites for the development of cultural tourism and cultural-tourism products, and the Strategy of development of cultural tourism has been created in order to identify strategic measures (priorities and plan of activities), which should encourage the development of cultural-tourism products of Croatian tourist destinations in the entire country. Strategy is adopted in 2003, and its implementation started in 2004. After five years, in 2008, the first comprehensive research that refers to the changes and progress related to the development of the state of cultural tourism in Croatia was made. Consequently, this article presents and analyzes some results of that research, preceded by a short overview of the state of cultural tourism in Croatia, which includes the analysis of Croatian strategies of development of culture, tourism and cultural tourism, analysis the role of the state in cultural tourism and, finally, states the possible directions of further development of cultural tourism in Croatia.
The Danube Region consists of various countries that are determined by geographic, economic, cultural and socio-demographic characteristics. Certain regions show different trends of development with ...increasing regional differences. Regarding that the importance gets newly formed EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the Danube Strategy, which represents a new approach to the European Union's macro-regions, and is focused on four main directions of cooperation in the Danube Region: linking macro-regions, environmental protection, building prosperity and strengthening macro-region. Croatia, as a Danube country, accepted the idea of creating a unified European international space, as suggested in the Danube Strategy, and it is actively engaged in the process. The Croatian Danube Region includes two easternmost counties, Osijek-Baranja and Vukovar-Srijem. The rich cultural and natural heritage of the two counties can be further exploited in the improved tourist offer, advocated by the Strategy. Croatian Danube Region has tourism potentials and with the appropriate measures and incentives this region could become one of the leading regions in continental tourism in Croatia. This article presents and analyzes the Danube Strategy and its importance for Croatia, the tourist and cultural potentials of the Croatian Danube Region with regard to their greater recognition and utilization as crucial for sustainable development of this, in terms of tourism, still insufficiently developed parts of Croatia, and the possibilities of tourism and culture in the Croatian Danube Region within the framework of the Danube Strategy.
