The paper examines the effects of implementing the panEuropeanmobile cell system -GSM (Global System for MobileCommunications) in the total tourist trade of the Republic ofCroatia, the procedure of ...its planning and integration in Croatia's telecommunication network and the influence on theEuropean and world-wide developments in trade and tourism.Special emphasis is laid upon the accessibility and range ofmobile se1vices that result from adequate network planningand the control of network traffic flow. The essential factors that influence service quality from theuser standpoint are identified.
Developed and widely available telecommunications services are regarded as key enablers of a new economy. In Eastern European countries in transition, investment in telecommunications is generally ...perceived as a stimulus for economic growth. We investigate empirical correlation and Granger causality between certain indicators of telecommunications activity and economic growth. The indicators include total investment in the telecommunications sector and other parameters such as the penetration rate of services. We also propose additional indicators that may describe telecommunications sector development better than traditional, fixed, telephony-based measures. This is due to the migration of users from fixed to mobile networks, and from basic to broadband Internet access in the last few years. In the near future one also can expect broadband Internet users to move to mobile network infrastructure.
Decarbonization of electricity system is a social and economic challenge of immense proportions. The European Union proclaimed a goal of reaching about 60% of total electricity production from ...renewable sources until 2030, and almost complete decarbonization of power system (96-99%) until 2050. From today's perspective, these goals seem almost unattainable. Therefore, it is extremely important to understand economics of power system with large shares of energy generated by intermittent sources, and lead the long-lasting process of decarbonization in an economically rational way, without giving way to ideology, populism, myopic interests, and irrational decision making. In this article we explore economic and political challenges the decarbonization process is faced to. First, we analyze the issue of cost competitiveness of renewable technologies against conventional ones, the latter having been spared of pollution costs until very recently. Then we tangle the question of social costs of pollution, and the willingness of today's generation to spend more for the sake of future generations' interests, environment-wise. This question seems to be the most important, as processes, with such a deep impact on people's lives as decarbonization will exert, cannot be put to life without political consensus. In that regard, governmental bodies should assume much more active role in bringing the environment protection issues to the very center of political mainstream, instead of fruitless work on often badly constructed and myopic energy policy measures.
In this paper, the authors first present a review of economic literature on institutional organization of transmission system operators (TSO) with respect to three standard types of settings allowed ...by the "Third energy package" of the EU energy law. They then discuss issues on economic efficiency of each of them, taking additionally into account that they require different levels of regulator's engagement, so that the question of regulator's quality and accountability has to be taken into account when assessing which of the institutional forms would be optimal for meeting the overall EU energy policy goals. Then they discuss economic challenges in front of TSOs that arise from a rapid decarbonization of electricity generation, which is one of the priorities of the EU's energy policy.
Zastupljenost monopolističkih poduzeća varira od sektora do sektora.
Monopolistička poduzeća posebice su često zastupljena u onim sektorima koji su tradicionalno bili čvrsto vezani uz državu. Primjer ...za to su sektor
elektroenergetike i telekomunikacija. Stoga su danas, kada problem deregulacije posebno zaokuplja pozornost znanstvene i stručne javnosti, upravo sektori elektroenergetike i telekomunikacija često predmet razmatranja u pitanjima deregulacije.
Developed and widely available telecommunications services are regarded as key enablers of the new economy. In East European countries in transition telecommunications investments are generally ...perceived as a stimuli for economic growth acceleration. We will try to investigate this empirical correlation and Granger causality between certain indicators of telecommunications sector activity, and economic growth. The indicators comprise total investments in the telecommunications sector, as well as other natural parameters, such as various penetration rates of services. We also propose additional indicators which may describe telecommunications sector development better than traditional fixed telephony based measures. This is due to significant migration of users from fixed to mobile networks, and from basic to broadband Internet access in the last few years. In the near future one can expect broadband Internet users also to move to mobile network infrastructure. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
Abstract As cardiovascular pathology grows in numbers, research into the discovery of new chemokine biomarkers should not be neglected, as they seem to be paramount in atherosclerosis prevention and ...its early detection. Chemokines attract and activate leukocytes and are well recognized in the environment of inflammatory response. MCP-1 is a valuable chemokine whose potential to become a new crucial atherosclerosis marker is surely worth investigating. Since quantities of MCP-1 found in lesions are as low as immeasurable, we propose the use of an immunohistochemical method for the quantification of MCP-1 levels in atherosclerotic lesions. Additionally, serum levels of MCP-1 can be measured by commercially available immunoassays. Proposed MCP-1 concentration increase may explain the acceleration in lesion’s atherosclerosis progression as chemokine activation occurs once they bind to specific ligands. If proven, this hypothesis would indicate the need for further studies in order to objectively link the increased MCP-1 expression with carotid restenosis.
