, a major cause of several infectious diseases, has become a hazardous resistant pathogen. One of the factors contributing to quinolone resistance in
is mutations occurring in
and
genes encoding the ...A subunits of type II and IV topoisomerases, respectively, in quinolone resistance determining regions (QRDR) of the bacterial chromosome.
Thirty seven isolates from patients with burn wounds and 20 isolates from blood, urine and sputum specimen were collected. Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) of ciprofloxacin were determined by agar diffusion assay. Subsequently, QRDRs regions of
and
were amplified from resistant isolates and were assessed for mutations involved in ciprofloxacin resistance after sequencing.
Nine isolates with MIC≥8 μg/ml had a mutation in
(Thr83→Ile). Amongst these, seven isolates also had a mutation in
(Ser87→ Leu or Trp) indicating that the prevalent mutation in
is Thr83Ile and Ser87Leu/Trp in
. No single
mutation was observed.
It seems that mutations in
are concomitant with mutations in
which might lead to high-level ciprofloxacin resistance in
isolates from patients with burn wounds and urinary tract infections.
The strawberry spider mite, Tetranychus turkestani Ugarov and Nikolski, is one of the most important pests of different field and glasshouse crops in Iran. The objectives of the current study were to ...determine developmental time, survival, reproduction and life table parameters of T. turkestani on three plant species: cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.), white bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.) and red bean (Phaseolus calcaratus Roxb.) at 25 ± 1 °C, 60 ± 10 % RH and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D). The mean developmental time from egg to adult on cowpea, white bean and red bean were 11.99, 10.43 and 10.46 days, respectively. The total preadult survival rates varied from 75% to 80%. Females of T. turkestani oviposited means of 65.13, 44.03 and 32.69 eggs on cowpea, white bean and red bean, respectively, and had a mean longevity of 13.92, 9.08 and 7.23 days on the same three host plants. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) varied from 0.18 to 0.21. The net reproductive rate (R0) was higher on cowpea (42.33) than on white bean (24.95) or red bean (14.16). Using these measures, T. turkestani performance was best on cowpea, worst on red bean, and intermediate on white bean.

How can an ancient architectural heritage become a rich resource for inspiration rather than a burden or a limitation? Moving away from a conventional formal analysis of historic architecture, which ...identifies particular periods with specific styles or characteristics, Farshad Farahi suggests an approach that unites the contemporary philosophically and spiritually with its past ‐ by seeking out an imaginary dimension or ‘World of Similitude’.
In this article, solving of fractional partial differential equation (FPDE) with optimal time control approach is developed. Conformable derivative as a new definition of fractional derivative is ...considered. At first the (FPDE) with stationary regime is converted to optimal time control problem, then by using an embedding process, the obtained system is converted to finite-dimensional linear programming (LP) problem and finally optimal time corresponded by (FPDE) system is approximated. For example, this method is used on the conformable fractional heat equation with the initial and boundary conditions.
2-dimensional graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has specific properties that makes it a desirable candidate for extensive applications. This work provides a systematic study for choosing precursors ...to prepare g-C3N4 with tailored characteristics. g-C3N4 samples have been prepared by thermal decomposition of different precursors (i.e., melamine, urea, and thiourea). Various characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, XRD, DRS, BET, and FTIR have been used to determine the physical properties of the prepared samples. SEM analysis showed nanoflake and nanosheet structures with no elemental impurity in EDS analysis. Furthermore, FTIR analysis confirmed the formation of graphitic carbon nitride structure. BET results showed a significant enhancement of specific surface area by a factor of 2.8 for the sample prepared with urea precursor. The photocatalytic activity for rhodamine B (RhB) degradation is also presented. The results revealed that urea-based g-C3N4 could be a promising candidate for photocatalytic applications due to its appropriate physical properties and highest dye removal.
Radiolabeled leukocyte scans are used in nuclear medicine to detect sites of infection and inflammation. We have previously demonstrated the use of clinical grade immunomagnetic beads to isolate ...autologous eosinophils and image their distribution in healthy volunteers. Here we describe the use of radiolabeled eosinophils coupled to single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) to quantify eosinophil uptake in the lungs of healthy volunteers, patients with asthma, and patients with focal eosinophilic inflammation.
Considering the need for large quantities of high efficiency thermoelectric materials for industrial applications, a scalable synthesis method for high performance magnesium silicide based materials ...is proposed. The synthesis procedure consists of a melting step followed by high energy ball milling. All the materials synthesized via this method demonstrated not only high functional homogeneity but also high electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficients of around 1000 Ω−1 cm−1 and −200 μV K−1 at 773 K, respectively. The measured values were similar for all the samples extracted from the ∅50 mm and ∅70 mm compacted pellets and were stable upon thermal cycling. Thermal stability experiments from 168 hours to 720 hours at 723 K revealed no significant change in the material properties. The low thermal conductivity of ∼2.5 W m−1 K−1 at 773 K led to a maximum figure of merit, zTmax, of 1.3 at the same temperature and an average value, zTavg, of 0.9 between 300 K and 773 K, which enables high efficiency in future silicide-based thermoelectric generators.
