The possibility of producing human recombinant antibodies by the phage display libraries technology has opened up new perspectives in the fields of immunological research and therapeutic ...applications. Despite the interest for a potential use of this technology in the HLA field, no information is so far available about selection and screening of libraries with HLA antigens. In this study we report our first experience with expression and characterization of human single-chain antibody fragments (scFvs) against HLA-DR epitopes selected from a synthetic phage library.
We report on observations of the pulsar/Be star binary system PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213 in the energy range between $100\,\mathrm{GeV}$ and $20\,\mathrm{TeV}$ with the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging ...Telescope Array and Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov telescope arrays. The binary orbit has a period of approximately 50 years, with the most recent periastron occurring on 2017 November 13. Our observations span from 18 months prior to periastron to one month after. A new point-like gamma-ray source is detected, coincident with the location of PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213. The gamma-ray light curve and spectrum are well characterized over the periastron passage. The flux is variable over at least an order of magnitude, peaking at periastron, thus providing a firm association of the TeV source with the pulsar/Be star system. Observations prior to periastron show a cutoff in the spectrum at an energy around $0.5\,\mathrm{TeV}$. This result adds a new member to the small population of known TeV binaries, and it identifies only the second source of this class in which the nature and properties of the compact object are firmly established. We compare the gamma-ray results with the light curve measured with the X-ray Telescope on board the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory and with the predictions of recent theoretical models of the system. We conclude that significant revision of the models is required to explain the details of the emission that we have observed, and we discuss the relationship between the binary system and the overlapping steady extended source, TeV J2032+4130.
Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- Aims: A survey was conducted amongst university students to assess their level of susceptibility to and knowledge about measles, ...mumps and rubella (MMR) and their prevention, and to find factors associated to their seropositivity for MMR viruses. Subjects, and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 961 students from the University of Cassino (Italy). The enzyme immunoassay method was used to assess seropositivity for MMR, while knowledge and previous vaccination information were acquired through a self-administered questionnaire. Results: The prevalence of IgG antibodies was 93.2% for measles, 91.4% for mumps and 81.3% for rubella. The susceptibility for measles was higher in the 21–25 and over 31 age groups. The seroprevalence profile of mumps was similar to that of measles, while the level of immunity to rubella was very low in students aged under 20 years (76.7%) and 21–25 years (81.2%). Only 111 students said they had been vaccinated against measles, 46 against mumps and 103 against rubella. Most students demonstrated poor knowledge concerning MMR and were not practicing preventive behaviours. Conclusions: The susceptibility was particularly high for rubella. Concerted efforts are needed to educate young adults about the benefits of vaccination and to raise their level of consciousness so as to motivate them to request vaccination.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Objective: To compare systemic hemodynamics with microcirculatory changes at different vascular beds during progressive hemorrhage. Setting: Universitybased research laboratory. Subjects: Twelve ...anesthetized, mechanically ventilated sheep. Interventions: Sheep were randomly assigned to HEMORRHAGE or CONTROL group. In the HEMORRHAGE group (n = 8), three stepwise bleedings of 5 ml/kg at 30- min intervals were performed to add up 15 ml/kg. In the CONTROL group (n = 4), sheep had the same surgical preparation but were not bled. Measurements and main results: Progressive bleeding decreased cardiac output, and superior mesenteric artery blood flow, and systemic and intestinal oxygen transports from the first step of bleeding whereas systemic and intestinal oxygen consumption remained unchanged. Mean arterial blood pressure, arterial pH and base excess, and intramucosal-arterial PCO2 were only significantly modified in the last step of bleeding. Arterial lactate increased and sublingual, and intestinal serosal and mucosal capillary microvascular flow indexes and red blood cell velocities progressively decreased after the first step of bleeding (3.0 ± 0.1 vs. 2.3 ± 0.4, 3.2 ± 0.2 vs. 2.4 ± 0.6, 3.0 ± 0.0 vs. 2.0 ± 0.2, and 1,082 ± 29 vs. 977 ± 79, 1,042 ± 24 vs. 953 ± 60, 287 ± 65 vs. 262 ± 16 lm/s; P\0.05 for all). Conclusions: Alterations in sublingual, intestinal microcirculation, and arterial lactate simultaneously arose from the first step of bleeding. The microcirculatory changes were identified either by semi-quantitative flow index or by quantitative red blood cell velocity measurements.
