Emission rates and fluxes of biogenic components emitted by a Mediterranean Pseudosteppe were measured in the BEMA test site of Castelporziano during the 1993 and 1994 field campaigns. Enclosure and ...micrometeorological techniques were used. Although the emission was comprised of isoprene, semi-volatile aldehydes, acetic acid and monoterpenes at trace levels, the most relevant compound in air was isoprene. Basal emission rates for isoprene (normalized at 30°C and 1000 μE PAR) as defined by Guenther
et al. (1991,
J. geophys. Res.
96, 10,799–10,808) were obtained for this ecosystem by combining experimental observations and predictions based on the Guenther algorithm. It is shown that the Mediterranean Pseudosteppe is a strong isoprene emitter with a basal emission rate of 0.45 μg m
−2 s
−1 during the flowering season. At the end of the maximum physiologically active season basal emission rate ranged only in 0.1–0.15 μg m
−2 s
−1. A close dependence from light and temperature for the isoprene emission is observed. The decline in emission rates seems to be associated with a reduction in photosynthetic activity linked to senescence of the vegetation present in this ecosystem. The results obtained indicate that the Mediterranean Pseudosteppe is an ecosystem characterized by a rapid and strong variability in isoprene emission. It represents a source of isoprene comparable to deciduous forest areas only during the flowering season (from the middle of March to the middle of May) whereas it becomes a minor source during the end of the maximum physiologically active season.
Ambient levels and night and day profiles of aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, (m+p)-xylene, o-xylene and ethyl benzene) and aldehydes (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, n-butanal, n-pentanal, ...n-hexanal and benzaldehyde) were measured in Grenoble, France, during a selected week from May, 4, 1995 to May, 11, 1995. Most abundant aromatic hydrocarbons observed were toluene (up to 3.5 ppbv), benzene and (m+p)-xylene (0–3 ppbv). Formaldehyde was the most abundant aldehyde with concentrations ranging from 2 to 18 ppbv followed by acetaldehyde with levels from 2 to 10 ppbv. Gas phase concentrations of four other aldehydes were in the range 0–2 ppbv. Results are discussed with respect to direct emissions and photochemical production. Formaldehyde appears to come mainly from exhaust car emissions but acetaldehyde from other primary sources.
Scientists designed a diffusive sampler with a 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine-impregnated filter as the collection media. The proposed sensor system was intended for applications involving the monitoring ...of low concentrations of aldehydes. Techniques used to optimize the collecting medium depth are reviewed. Calibration of the samplers was realized by exposing the samplers in an exposure chamber. Data detailing the relationship between uptake and exposure dose are analyzed. The potential application of the approach as part of a badge-based monitoring effort was validated via a study that compared sampling in a real atmosphere against pumped samples.

Aujourd'hui, diverses activités physiques et sportives ont pour cadre un environnement de nature supposant des opérations d'aménagement et un entretien des espaces. Les pratiques sportives plus ..."traditionnelles" sont également marquées par une évolution en matière d'environnement architectural et urbanistique. Le sport ne s'organise plus nécessairement autour d'un unique centre de gravité : la compétition en club, au plus haut niveau de performance possible, tandis qu'avec le développement du loisir, les "valeurs" de l'hédonisme, de la liberté, de la nature s'affirment... De fait, les interrelations entre le sport et l'environnement sont complexes et changeantes. Les mass médias y font souvent référence, confirmant ainsi l'impact psychologique du thème et l'expression d'intérêts parfois contradictoires. L'objectif principal de ce Cahier de l'Université Sportive d'Été est d'établir un aperçu détaillé de la question en sollicitant les acteurs (élus politiques, responsables d'associations, techniciens de l'aménagement, professionnels du sport et du tourisme, universitaires, experts ou même simples pratiquants sportifs...) opérant dans le domaine considéré. Grâce aux contributions rassemblées, prenant la forme de conférences, d'exposés, de témoignages, de débats et de tables rondes, le lecteur identifie clairement les points de vue et les enjeux. Pour autant l'ouvrage n'a pas la prétention de fournir une réponse définitive. On peut d'ailleurs penser que le thème "Sports et environnement" est appelé à rester "problématique" tant il est riche de conceptions spécifiques visant à l'épanouissement de la personne, au contact d'autrui ou de la nature, et d'expressions symboliques et esthétiques allant souvent à l'encontre d'intérêts strictement économiques.
