Large ventral hernia is a challenge to operate in tier 3 cities of India, because of economic constrains of local population. Here author reports three large ventral hernias operated with use of ...Da-Silva, Malmo peritoneal flap technique. Peritoneal flap should be integral part of abdominal wall repair procedures. It reduces cost, morbidity and mortality of a large ventral hernia repair. It is a useful method for repair of large ventral and incisional hernia when primary fascial closer is not achievable.

The author has treated three cases of femoral hernias over the years. Femoral hernias are rare compared to inguinal hernias. Here, there were varied clinical presentations of all femoral hernias. ...Obstruction, strangulation and groin swelling were the presentations observed. Management of all varies according to presentation. Because of narrow neck and stiff femoral canal chances of complications are more. Use of minimal access techniques may reduce the morbidity of surgical treatment in emergency.

Linitis plastica generally involves stomach. Most common cause is diffuse signet ring adenocarcinoma, metastatic disease from breast and lungs can also lead to Linitis plastica and also caustic ...burns. In Linitis plastica the stomach becomes rigid and pipe like (leather bottle). We are presenting a rare case of Linitis plastica of terminal ileum. Ours is a 55-year female patient presenting in casualty with abdominal pain, distension, vomiting and bilious vomiting. Her terminal ileum had stricturous rigid tube-like lesion with multiple mesenteric lymphadenitis. We did curative resection (ileoascending colon) and anastomosis. She had uneventful recovery. Though small bowel malignancies are rare, one should have high index of suspicion when one encounters rigid pipe like strictures lesion of ileum, as these can be malignant lesion and one should perform curative resection. Surgery improves survival rate along with adjuvant chemotherapy as required.

Background: This is a prospective non randomized observational comparative study for surgical site infections and surgical site occurrences after laparotomy fascia closer with two different ...techniques. Regular bite remains the standard of care in most hospitals. Laparotomies were done for elective and emergency cases.Methods: There were two techniques used to close abdominal wall fascia. The present study has evaluated small bite abdominal closer verses regular bite closer. Author and his team had used small bite fascia closer technique for all laparotomies, while other group of surgeons utilized regular bite fascia closer.Results: Out of 26 laparotomies in short bite closer, 8 had surgical site infections and surgical site occurrences, while 26 laparotomies in regular bite closer group had 15 patients with surgical site infections and surgical site occurrences. There is significant reduction in surgical site infection and surgical site occurrences observed in small bite abdominal closer group.Conclusions: It is recommended all laparotomies elective or emergent should be closed with small bite technique as it reduces surgical site infections and surgical site occurrences.

In the past few years, adoption to smartphones has increased nationwide and across the world. ...According to the Pew Research Center it has been noted that almost two-thirds of Americans own a smartphone, and 19% of Americans rely to some degree on a smartphone for accessing online services and information and for staying connected to the world. In this era of technology and smartphones, the easiest way to make any information available to a large set of users is through a smartphone application. These applications are absolutely user friendly and present information in the most readable way. As a student in San Diego State University, long hours of studying during finals week in the library made me realize that an application about information related to the SDSU library would come in very handy to a large number of students at SDSU. Imagine not having to run to the library to check if the text book that you want to make notes from is available or not. All of this by clicking on your smartphone application to get all the relevant information. This thesis implements an Android smartphone application with features to get information about the SDSU library. The user of this application can view all the books, media, ecopies of all the available resources in the San Diego State University Library. The application should have the capability for searching catalogues in the library when a user types in a keyword related to the books and media that the user wants to search. There are additional features where the user can view all the planned events and news pertaining to the library. Information about hours of operation, library staff is also provided. The application also has a feature called campus finder which provides the user with the map to the library and information about various departments.
Urethral diverticulum with distal stricture is a common entity. We are presenting a rare case of urethral diverticulum with proximal stricture. This is an uncommon case of a 55- year-old male ...paraplegic patient, who had urethrocutaneous fistula with distal urethral diverticulum and proximal urethral stricture. The patient was successfully managed by single-stage diverticulectomy and urethroplasty.
