Multisensor image registration is needed in a large number of applications of remote sensing imagery. The accuracy achieved with usual methods (manual control points extraction, estimation of an ...analytical deformation model) is not satisfactory for many applications where a subpixel accuracy for each pixel of the image is needed (change detection or image fusion, for instance). Unfortunately, there are few works in the literature about the fine registration of multisensor images and even less about the extension of approaches similar to those based on fine correlation for the case of monomodal imagery. In this paper, we analyze the problem of the automatic multisensor image registration and we introduce similarity measures which can replace the correlation coefficient in a deformation map estimation scheme. We show an example where the deformation map between a radar image and an optical one is fully automatically estimated.

Over the course of the last decade, large populations living in vulnerable areas have led to record damages and substantial loss of life in mega-disasters ranging from the deadly Indian Ocean tsunami ...of 2004 and Haiti earthquake of 2010; the catastrophic flood damages of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Tohoku tsunami of 2011, and the astonishing extent of the environmental impact of the Deepwater Horizon explosion in 2009. These major catastrophes have widespread and long-lasting impacts with subsequent recovery and reconstruction costing billions of euros and lasting years. While satellite imagery is used on an ad hoc basis after many disasters to support damage assessment, there is currently no standard practice or system to coordinate acquisition of data and facilitate access for early recovery planning and recovery tracking and monitoring. CEOS led the creation of a Recovery Observatory Oversight Team, which brings together major recovery stakeholders such as the UNDP and the World Bank/Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, value-adding providers and leading space agencies. The principal aims of the Observatory are to: 1. Demonstrate the utility of a wide range of earth observation data to facilitate the recovery and reconstruction phase following a major catastrophic event; 2. Provide a concrete case to focus efforts in identifying and resolving technical and organizational obstacles to facilitating the visibility and access to a relevant set of EO data; and 3. Develop dialogue and establish institutional relationships with the Recovery phase user community to best target data and information requirements; The paper presented here will describe the work conducted in preparing for the triggering of a Recovery Observatory including support to rapid assessments and Post Disaster Needs Assessments by the EO community.

In the frame of its earth observation missions, CNES created a library called QPEC, and one of its launcher called Medicis. QPEC / Medicis is a sub-pixel two-dimensional stereo matching algorithm ...that works on an image pair. This tool is a block matching algorithm, which means that it is based on a local method. Moreover it does not regularize the results found. It proposes several matching costs, such as the Zero mean Normalised Cross-Correlation or statistical measures (the Mutual Information being one of them), and different match validation flags. QPEC / Medicis is able to compute a two-dimensional dense disparity map with a subpixel precision. Hence, it is more versatile than disparity estimation methods found in computer vision literature, which often assume an epipolar geometry. CNES uses Medicis, among other applications, during the in-orbit image quality commissioning of earth observation satellites. For instance the Pléiades-HR 1A & 1B and the Sentinel-2 geometric calibrations are based on this block matching algorithm. Over the years, it has become a common tool in ground segments for in-flight monitoring purposes. For these two kinds of applications, the two-dimensional search and the local sub-pixel measure without regularization can be essential. This tool is also used to generate automatic digital elevation models, for which it was not initially dedicated. This paper deals with the QPEC / Medicis algorithm. It also presents some of its CNES applications (in-orbit commissioning, in flight monitoring or digital elevation model generation). Medicis software is distributed outside the CNES as well. This paper finally describes some of these external applications using Medicis, such as ground displacement measurement, or intra-oral scanner in the dental domain.
ORFEO, the PLEIADES Accompaniment Program, was set up by CNES, the French Space Agency, to prepare, accompany and promote the use and the exploitation of the images acquired by this Very High ...Resolution optical sensor. It was initiated in 2004 and will last until the end of the first year of the satellite life (launched in December 2011) . The Thematic part of the ORFEO accompaniment program covers a large range of applications, and aims at specifying and validating products and services required by users. An in-depth work of user needs assessments in eight thematic domains (sea and coastline, risks and humanitarian aid, cartography and urban planning, geophysical hazards, hydrology, forestry, agriculture and defence) has given rise to a large number of feasibility studies from 2006 to 2011. The Methodological Part of the ORFEO accompaniment program aims at preparing the use and exploitation of these submetric images. CNES decided to develop Orfeo Toolbox (OTB), an open source library capitalising the methodological know-how as a set of image processing and algorithmic components. Among other, OTB provides a number of heavily documented image processing functionalities such as filtering, feature extraction, segmentation, classification, change detection, 3D extraction, GIS links,... As a conclusion to the ORFEO program, the PLEIADES Users Thematic Commissioning (UTC) started three months after the satellite launch and will last until mid 2013. It covers a large number of specific interest ORFEO sites, on which PLEIADES images are being intensively acquired and processed. These ORFEO sites have been chosen according to the expectations expressed by the users in terms of their interest for dedicated thematic, their geographic location and their multi-thematic content. This paper presents the ORFEO program achievements (thematic and methodology) and the organisation of the Users Thematic Commissioning (sites, studies). The paper is illustrated with some examples of multi-thematic studies, lead through ORFEO, covering a large range of applications, and aiming at validating value added products and services provided to end users from PLEIADES imagery.
The study reports data from a long-term monitoring (2007–2020) of a Cypripedium calceolus population (Orchidaceae) in the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park (Trentino, North Italy). In the first four ...years, there was a gradual increase in the number of flowering stems. In 2010, a forest cut was performed and branches were left in place for three years. Number of orchid individuals decreased rapidly just after the cut, while after the removal of the branches in 2013 a recovery began. The proportion of stems with two flowers varied between 8.8% and 17.6%. Reproductive success was studied only in the first three years, varying between 5.2% and 19.7%. Several plants did not bloom because they were grazed by wild ungulates. As we observed that hikers and tourists collected some plants, we also recommend the surveillance of Cypripedium calceolus population during flowering period. Despite these multiple impacts, the studied population look to be viable. However, more attention should be implemented to future forest interventions.
Purpose: Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is the commonest form of inherited colorectal cancer. Whereas it has been
known that mismatch repair gene mutations are the underlying cause ...of HNPCC, an undetermined number of patients do not have
these alterations. The main objectives of this study were to assess the relevance of clinically defined HNPCC patients without
characteristic mutator pathway alterations and to identify their specific features.
Experimental Design: This was a prospective, population-based, cohort that included 1,309 newly diagnosed colorectal cancer patients. Demographic,
clinical, pathologic data and tumor DNA from probands as well as a detailed family history were collected. Microsatellite
analysis and MLH1, MSH2, and MSH6 immunohistochemistry were done. Germ line MLH1 and MSH2 mutational analysis was done in all patients with evidence of MMR alterations.
Results: Twenty-five patients (1.9%) fulfilled Amsterdam criteria of HNPCC but 15 (60%) of them did not have microsatellite instability
and showed normal expression of MMR proteins. These patients presented mostly left-sided tumors without lymphocytic infiltrate;
they were older, had fewer family members affected with colorectal or endometrial cancers, and more often fulfilled Amsterdam
II criteria than HNPCC patients with microsatellite instability. Like unstable HNPCC patients, this group without mutator
pathway alterations had a significant percentage of synchronous and metachronous adenomatous polyps and cancers.
Conclusions: We define an important group of HNPCC families with specific features, no evidence of mismatch repair deficiency, and an
autosomal dominant trait with a lesser penetrance than HNPCC with deficiency.

La cuisson des aliments se fait essentiellement dans des marmites de tradition grecque, mais la proportion de vases de cuisson occidentaux n'est pas négligeable. Cette influence se retrouve dans le reste de la vaisselle, où l'on remarque aussi la modification profonde du rituel du banquet : le cratère central ne tient plus de rôle, et les vases individuels se multiplient, notamment les assiettes creuses destinées à la consommation de plats en sauce. This article presents the everyday ceramic discovered in the house of Seals on Delos, which was destroyed in 69 B.C. That ceramic allows the writer to shed light on certain eating habits of its inhabitants, which are a reflection of the new habits of the Hellenistic era. Food is cooked esssentially in Greek-style pans, but the proportion of western-style cooking vessels is not to be reflected. This influence is also to be found in others types of table-ware, we thus notice a deep alteration of banqueting rituals : the central crater no longer has the same function and individual vessels are becoming more and more common, especially bowls used to eat meals topped with gravy.
