Teachers, as individuals outside the classroom, deals with their problems yet are still expected to display desirable dispositions during student interaction. Thus, the strategy for regulating ...thoughts and emotions is vital for effective teaching. This study aims to measure Filipino teachers' problem compartmentalization ability, their level of emotional intelligence, and teaching performance, mainly when they experienced personal issues. It also seeks to determine the relationship among variables. Validated researcher-made and adopted instruments were administered to the 140 teachers from different public schools in the Cebu province, Philippines. The tools were subjected to validity and reliability tests. The gathered data were analyzed using the weighted mean and Spearman rho coefficient. Findings revealed that Filipino teachers have a high ability to compartmentalize their problems. Also, they have a high level of perceiving, understanding, managing, and using their emotions. They also display positive disposition when they are in the classroom showing their good performance despite their personal issues. Statistically, Filipino teachers' emotional intelligence and their problem compartmentalization ability were positively and significantly correlated to their teaching performance. Hence these approaches may be included by the school leaders in teachers' training for the improvement of their well-being.
This work proposes a structural model highlighting the research skills of undergraduate students. Due to the stages in their research project implementation, mentoring students becomes a crucial ...initiative in higher education institutions. Despite substantial progress in the literature linking mentoring and skills development, there is a lack of greater emphasis on research skills, especially for undergraduate students facing research work for the first time. Consequently, the direct relation between mentoring and research skills may not be straightforward. Thus, driven by social learning theory, the proposed model highlights the mediating effects of information literacy constructs and competency development on the relationship between mentoring and research skills. An empirical study of 539 participants via Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling supports six of the seven hypothesized paths. Three major theoretical contributions arise from the findings. Firstly, mentoring improves information-seeking skills and information-sharing behaviors and facilitates students’ competency development due to the technical knowledge transfer from the faculty mentor to student mentees. Secondly, information literacy constructs and competency development promote research skills, emphasizing that students with those behaviors and capacities will achieve enhanced research skills. Finally, our findings suggest that mentoring does not directly translate to improved research skills; instead, information-seeking and sharing behaviors and competency development fully mediate such a link. Thus, mentors must shape these behaviors for mentoring to develop students’ research skills. Theoretical and practical insights are outlined from these findings for university leadership to inform the design of mentoring initiatives for undergraduate students.

With 102 testing facilities in the Philippines, the relative efficiencies of each facility are quantified using a data envelopment analysis technique. Afterwards, a best-worst method was conducted to assign priority weights to each testing facility.
Findings
Results show that the proposed approach effectively prioritizes testing facilities that most likely have high utilization.
Research limitations/implications
The findings in this study would be significant to the literature in a number of respects. For one, it reveals results that would stimulate the interest among scholars in a wide variety of disciplines such as management, data mining, policymaking, decision science and epidemiology, among others.
Originality/value
This study differs from previous works in a number of respects, particularly, in that to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to examine the relative efficiencies of COVID-19 testing facilities.
Specific requirements for entry are required by higher education institutions (HEIs) to choose the best prospective students for a particular degree, and aspirants for university enrollment must ...first complete pre-admission assessments. The commonly used processes to assess their pre-admission skills are through interviewing and composition writing. This paper determines the English language aspirants through their interviewing and composition writing competence to be admitted to the university. This study employed a quantitative approach that utilizes a descriptive-correlational design, and Pearson R to analyze the data. It was conducted at Cebu Technological University-Moalboal Campus, a state university in the southwest of Cebu Province, with 86 aspirants who underwent panel interviews and composition writing assessments scored by the selected college instructors of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) department using modified Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) criteria. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between the aspirants’ competence in the panel interview and composition writing with a correlation coefficient (rxy) of 0.411, an alpha value of 0.05, and a p-value of 0.000. Hence, it is concluded that panel interviews and composition writing can affect one another. Furthermore, it is deduced that aspirants were not competent in their pre-admission skills: panel interview and composition writing. Moreover, it is recommended that teachers must implement an enhancement plan to provide adequate support and improve the aspirants’ interviewing and composition writing competence to ensure high success rates in university entry.
Communication trends such as abbreviations and acronyms have dominated Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) worldwide. These shortened words are used for speed and convenience in communicating with ...friends and family members. This research assesses the frequent utilization of linguistic patterns in CMC and the orthographic competence among 319 senior high school students in the public school system. It employed a descriptive-correlational research design utilizing an adapted questionnaire from a texting dictionary and Agbon, R.L (n.d), and Questionnaire on Textese. The data gathered were statistically treated with average mean, standard deviation, and p-value to assess the central tendency, variability, and significance of the findings, respectively. The result revealed that the mean average of (1) frequent utilization in terms of acronyms yielded a score of 2.47 (Competent), while for abbreviations, it was 3.02 (Incompetent). The (2) level of orthographic competence in the essay was 63.63% (Did Not Meet Expectation), and for sentences, it amounted to 39.5% (Satisfactory). The researchers also found that the mean (3) perception score regarding the impact of CMC on their orthographic competence was 3.05 (Incompetent). Statistically, there is no significant relationship between the frequent utilization of linguistic patterns and the respondents' orthographic competence, which implies that although the usage of acronyms and abbreviations is a prevalent linguistic feature in digital communication, it cannot affect the spelling ability of the users. However, this indicates that other significant factors, apart from linguistic patterns, could significantly influence orthographic competence.
"The Flip Gothic" and "Woman with Horns" are two of the most influential and famous works of the Filipino-American author Cecilia Manguerra Brainard, containing different narrative strategies and ...cultural implications. This study examines these literary pieces using qualitative analysis as well as their interaction through analyzing their cultural meaning. The results showed that both short stories have a strong emphasis on tone and diction, while simple sentences appear to be more frequently used than other types of sentence structure. Moreover, there is a clear exposition of characters, plots, concepts, settings, conflicts, and foreshadowing; flashbacks, symbolism, and imagery are also visible. Likewise, Filipino cultural activities, such as the Sinulog festival, the belief in mythical creatures, and the practice of having ‘lechon’ on every occasion, are embodied in the stories as well. In conclusion, the author's writing styles and previous personal experiences have greatly influenced her way of writing. Therefore, the researchers recommend the development of a literary analysis resource that is both comprehensive and easily accessible, serving as a valuable reference for future researchers doing literary analysis studies.
This research assessed the syntactical proficiency and productive language skills of the students who will take the Licensure Examinations for Teachers in Cebu Technological University- Moalboal ...Campus in consonance to their course alignment during the S.Y. 2022-2023.
This quantitative study adopts a descriptive-correlational design where an adopted test questionnaire and criteria were used. To determine the sample size of the respondents, simple random sampling was utilized using Slovin's formula. The statistical treatments applied in the study were simple percentage, weighted mean and standard deviation, and Pearson's R correlation. After, the questionnaire was administered the questionnaire was then gathered and the data was classified, tabulated, computed, treated, analyzed, and interpreted to come up with a reliable conclusion, recommendations, and an action plan.
Results show that both aligned and misaligned areas have high percentages of female students where the majority of both groups of respondents are in the age bracket 19-21. Among the 186 respondents, wherein 112 are aligned and 74 are misaligned, results revealed that despite having a positive outlook on the English language with a weighted mean of 3.94 for the aligned and 3.99 for the misaligned both described as AGREE, the two group of respondents exhibits poor mastery of syntactical proficiency. However, the respondents, in terms of their language productive skill, the aligned group exhibited average mastery whereas the misaligned group displayed outstanding mastery. The test on the significant relationship revealed that there is no relationship between the student’s syntactical proficiency and productive language skill and failed to reject the null hypothesis.
Based on the results and conclusion of this study, it is recommended to implement the proposed action plan to improve the mastery of the respondents’ syntactical proficiency and to further enrich their productive skill.
