The import of vegetables and vegetable products is high in the Republic of Croatia. Although there are excellent natural conditions for open-field production of vegetablesand greenhouse production, ...it is not nearly exploited. The importance of short supply chains is increasingly emphasized, as the crises caused by the Covid-19 pandemic have significantly affected the market flows of vegetables. The use of this kind of marketing is especially emphasized in the large Croatian cities' consumer supply. The greater use of this supply channel is limited by the small quantities of products from some producers and the solution has to be their better business links, and better use of modern tools of market communication – the internet, mail, social networks. These results are also from the Survey conducted in the second half of December 2020, with the participation of 104 persons from 57 towns and villages in Croatia.
The aim of the study was to determine the chances of the Slavonian family farms for social reproduction in the next generation and to determine attitudes of farmers towards some aspects of family ...farm inheritance and the possible ways of preventing the division of land. The research was carried out on a sample of 202 family farms. The analysis showed that the chances to remain as integral production units in the next generation are realistic for only 48% of family farms. The traditional pattern of behavior is obvious with regard to inheritance and to postponing the transfer of management and control of the farm resources. The majority of the Slavonian farmers find that it would be proper if the state were to introduce special measures to regulate the integrity of the land and to offer subsidies and easements for the "entry" of the young into the agriculture.
Poultry meat is an important protein source in the human consumption. The main factors that have a positive effect on the development of the poultry industry are short production cycle, relatively ...low cost and the lack of religious restrictions on consumption. Chicken meat has the biggest share in the structure of poultry meat. The paper objective was to calculate the level of self-sufficiency degree in poultry meat in Croatia in the period from 2000 to 2012 and the degree of self-sufficiency in 2016 based on the results obtained. The method of balancing was used for calculation of self-sufficiency degree. The degree of self-sufficiency in the production of poultry meat in Croatia is higher than in other types of meat being between 80 and 90%. However, further decrease is expected and in 2016 domestic production would meet 81.17% of the domestic needs.
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the knowledge of Croatian traditional food consumers, their attitudes as well as their concerns regarding GM food.Design methodology approach - A ...face-to-face survey was conducted with 360 consumers in order to collect data on importance of food production technology, respondents' knowledge about GM food, consumers' beliefs about GM food, fear of genetic modifications, willingness to consume and pay for GM food and respondents' demographics. Data were analysed with univariate and multivariate analyses.Findings - The knowledge of Croatian traditional food consumers about GM food is relatively low, which affects their negative attitudes about consumption of GM food. Rejection of GM food is mostly associated with fear of possible negative impact of such food on human health and the environment. A high percentage of respondents (70 per cent) consider GM foods harmful to human health, resulting in a low acceptability of GM food even if it would be cheaper than food without GMOs. Respondents believe that GM components improve freshness and shelf life of food, but significantly reduce its taste and nutritional value.Research limitations implications - One limitation of this study is the choice of the sample. Further research would be needed in order to explore attitudes and buying intentions of a representative sample of the entire Croatian population.Practical implications - Research results show that the introduction of GM food in the market would find potential consumers if it would provide some health benefits.Originality value - This paper gives the first insight into Croatian traditional food consumers' knowledge and concerns regarding GM food.
The expected Croatian accession to the European Union has once again updated the readiness of our agricultural producers to a market that soon awaits them. Current goals and results of agricultural ...policy measures are thus being reexamined, but also the policy's development concerning the harmonization of entire rural areas with the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU. The current socio-economic changes haven't significantly altered the main objectives of agricultural policy (providing enough food for consumers at reasonable prices, and an equal standard of living for farmers), but they have just changed the instruments and measures of the states with regard to the economic conditions and political circumstances. In Croatian literature, the farmers' position and life in rural areas have been significantly researched since the mid-nineteenth century. Results of many studies and in particular the given recommendations can still apply. Already in the early years, in many papers, the reasons for different positions of farmers of individual countries were indicated, while papers of the late 20th century emphasize the impossibility of mapping individual solutions from the EU to the Croatian situation.
Since the nineties of the last century, ecological products have become increasingly important in the market, and given that scientists have pro and contra arguments of ecological breeding, the main ...purpose of this paper was to determine the consumers preferences towards ecological food; the importance of certain characteristics and deterrents on the purchase of organic food; in the market of Split. For this survey we randomly recruited 113 participants in Split, Croatia. Surveyed consumers when purchasing organic food of the greatest importance consider protection of the environment, and at the least important they retain the taste. The most significant constraint on purchasing organic food of surveyed consumers is the high cost of the product, and the least important is the lack of marketing. Given the size of the sample, surveyed consumers are a typical target group of consumers of organic food.
Cilj rada je prikazati simulaciju razvoja tržišta žitarica korištenjem AGMEMOD modela parcijalne ravnoteže. Rezultati u radu prikazuju povijesni (2010-2016) i projicirani razvoj (2016.-2030) tržišta ...pšenice, kukuruza, ječma, zobi i raži. Rezultati projekcije prikazuju povećanje produktivnosti i stabilnost površina uz iznimke kod pojedinih kultura. Proizvodnja pšenice u razdoblju projekcije, kao i kukuruza, bilježi povećanje i promjenu vanjskotrgovinske bilance. Hrvatska i dalje
ostaje neto izvoznica kukuruza i pšenice.
From the beginning of 2020 to the middle of 2021, the sales price of corn increased by 87%. Changing the sales price has caused the improvement of financial indicators, and reconsideration of traditional assumptions about unprofitability of corn irrigation. The aim of this paper is to determine the financial effects of corn irrigation by comparing the gross margin in corn production with and without irrigation at different sales prices. The results indicate the unprofitability of maize irrigation at the selling price from the beginning of 2020 of HRK 0.97 / kg and the profitability at the price of HRK 1.81 / kg from June 2021.
This paper presents the results of a research study on quality of life and migration intentions from Croatian rural areas. The goal of the study was to investigate the satisfaction of rural ...population with quality of life in their communities and to determine the decisive factors in resolving the dilemma: "to stay or to leave the rural area?" The research study was conducted using survey method on the sample of 914 respondents from Croatian rural areas (all 20 counties were included in the sample proportionally). The rural communities and respondents in the age group between 24 to 45 years were selected randomly. The study results indicate that the major hardships of rural life are of economic nature, lack of employment opportunities, inadequate choice of profession and lower income compared to a city. About 20% of the respondents are not satisfied with conditions of rural life and intend to leave. Further depopulation of Croatian rural areas may have unfavourable effects such as excessive urbanization of large cities, uneven development of Croatia and insufficient utilization of spatial, production and human resources.PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
