Asian soybean rust (rust) is an emerging issue in U.S. crop production and was identified in nine states during 2004. Recent farm surveys indicate that many producers are adjusting their management ...practices to the possibility of a rust infestation. The economic and environmental impacts of such adjustments are not known in the medium run given these new developments. We combine 2005 data on the geographical distribution of the fungal pathogen that causes rust with 2005 information on the availability and material costs of fungicides to analyze three treatment strategies. Our results indicate a higher range of economic impacts than previous research has indicated, but are consistent with earlier findings indicating that rust infestations will likely result in reduced soybean production, reduced exports, and higher prices.
Roughly 2% of white dwarfs harbor planetary debris disks detectable via infrared excesses, but only a few percent of these disks show a gaseous component, distinguished by their double-peaked ...emission at the near-infrared calcium triplet. Previous studies found most debris disks around white dwarfs are variable at 3.4 and 4.5 \(\mu\)m, but they analyzed only a few of the now 21 published disks showing calcium emission. To test if most published calcium emission disks exhibit large-amplitude stochastic variability in the near-infrared, we use light curves generated from the unWISE images at 3.4 \(\mu\)m that are corrected for proper motion to characterize the near-infrared variability of these disks against samples of disks without calcium emission, highly variable cataclysmic variables, and 3215 isolated white dwarfs. We find most calcium emission disks are extremely variable: 6/11 with sufficient signal-to-noise show high-amplitude variability in their 3.4-\(\mu\)m light curves. These results lend further credence to the notion that disks showing gaseous debris in emission are the most collisionally active. Under the assumption that 3.4-\(\mu\)m variability is characteristic of white dwarfs with dusty debris disks, we generate a catalog of 104 high-confidence near-infrared variable white dwarfs, 84 of which are published as variable for the first time. We do near-infrared spectroscopic follow-up of seven new candidate 3.4-\(\mu\)m variables, confirming at least one new remnant planetary system, and posit that empirical near-infrared variability can be a discovery engine for debris disks showing gaseous emission.
Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in right ventricular function during acute coronary occlusion produced by inflating a coronary angioplasty balloon catheter.
...Background, Alterations in right ventricular function are well known to occur in patients with acute myocardial infarction or ischemie cardiomyopathy. However, the changes in right ventricular function resulting from acute, transient coronary occlusion of each of the major coronary arteries have been scantily studied, perhaps because of serious limitations of currently available technology.
Methods. A newly designed, mobile, multiwire gamma camera, in combination with generator-produced tantalum-178, affords high count rate first-pass radionuclide angiography and is thus ideal for studying right ventricular function at the bedside. Accordingly, 46 patients underwent first-pass radionuclide angiography at baseline and during transient coronary occlusion induced by a coronary angioplasty balloon catheter.
Results. A significant, albeit modest, decrease in global right ventricular ejection fraction occurred during occlusion of the left anterior descending (from 42.9 ± 9.3% to 39 ± 8.7%, p < 0.05) and left circumflex (from 44 ± 9.1% to 38.8 ± 7.9%, p = 0.03) coronary arteries, but diagonal artery occlusion caused no significant change in right ventricular ejection fraction. Occlusion of the right coronary artery proximal (but not distal) to the acute marginal branch caused a significant decrease in right ventricular ejection fraction (from 42.6 ± 4.7% to 35.7 ± 7.2%, p < 0.01). Although occlusion of the left anterior descending, left circumflex and proximal right coronary arteries all caused significant deterioration in regional right ventricular function, only proximal right coronary occlusion caused right ventricular dilation (p < 0.005).
Conclusions. Significant impairment of right ventricular function occurs during transient occlusion of the left anterior descending, left circumflex and proximal right coronary arteries, but only occlusion of the latter causes acute right ventricular dilation, probably as a result of ischemia.

Using-low-level features, the system classifies regions in the image via ...probability densities estimates for each class. These densities are estimated semi-parametrically, giving the system great flexibility in the functional form of the densities. This paper details the environment designed to allow easy implementation of pattern recognition algorithms.
We present the goals, strategy and first results of the high-cadence Galactic plane survey using the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF). The goal of the survey is to unveil the Galactic population of ...short-period variable stars, including short period binaries and stellar pulsators with periods less than a few hours. Between June 2018 and January 2019, we observed 64 ZTF fields resulting in 2990 deg\(^2\) of high stellar density in ZTF-\(r\) band along the Galactic Plane. Each field was observed continuously for 1.5 to 6 hrs with a cadence of 40 sec. Most fields have between 200 and 400 observations obtained over 2-3 continuous nights. As part of this survey we extract a total of \(\approx\)230 million individual objects with at least 80 epochs obtained during the high-cadence Galactic Plane survey reaching an average depth of ZTF-\(r\) \(\approx\)20.5 mag. For four selected fields with 2 million to 10 million individual objects per field we calculate different variability statistics and find that \(\approx\)1-2% of the objects are astrophysically variable over the observed period. We present a progress report on recent discoveries, including a new class of compact pulsators, the first members of a new class of Roche Lobe filling hot subdwarf binaries as well as new ultracompact double white dwarfs and flaring stars. Finally we present a sample of 12 new single-mode hot subdwarf B-star pulsators with pulsation amplitudes between ZTF-\(r\) = 20-76 mmag and pulsation periods between \(P\) = 5.8-16 min with a strong cluster of systems with periods \(\approx\) 6 min. All of the data have now been released in either ZTF Data Release 3 or data release 4.
