Galled trees are widely studied as a recombination model in population genetics. This class of phylogenetic networks is generalized into galled networks by relaxing a structural condition. In this ...work, a linear recurrence formula is given for counting 1-galled networks, which are galled networks satisfying the condition that each reticulate node has only one leaf descendant. Since each galled network consists of a set of 1-galled networks connected together in a tree structure, an algorithm is also presented to count and enumerate galled networks.
The North American Multi-Model Ensemble (NMME) as one of the multi-model seasonal forecasting system, regularly generate monthly precipitation forecast for all globe with 0.5 - 11.5 months lead time. ...This useful information can be used as general input to regional and local precipitation forecast. This study quantifies monthly precipitation hindcast data performance in South Sulawesi provided by seven coupled models from the NMME during 29 years (1982 - 2010) period. Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Stations (CHIRPS) dataset and the Standardized Verification System (SVS) for long-range forecasts (LRF) analysis applied to asses monthly precipitation prediction. Almost all individual model shows relatively high skill when used to make June - November monthly precipitation prediction and low skill when used to forecast monthly precipitation in December - May periods. Multi-Model Ensemble (MME) performed using Simple Composite Method (SCM) increased performance of monthly precipitation prediction. Nevertheless, this improvement only applies at short lead time (< 3.3 months). This result also shows that NMME is more promising when it used to make precipitation forecast application during dry period (i.e. drought prediction) rather than wet period over South Sulawesi region.
Short message service (SMS) can be used as digital evidence of disclosure of crime because it can strengthen the charges against the offenders. Criminals use various ways to destroy the evidence, ...including by deleting SMS. On the Android OS, SMS is stored in a SQLite database file. Deletion of SMS data is not followed by bit deletion in memory so that it is possible to rediscover the deleted SMS. Based on this case, the mobile forensic needs to be done to rediscover the short message service. The proposed method in this study is Boyer-Moore algorithm for searching string matching. An auto finds feature is designed to rediscover the short message service by searching using a particular pattern to rematch a text with the result of the hex value conversion in the database file. The system will redisplay the message for each of a match. From all the testing results, the proposed method has quite a high accuracy in rediscovering the short message service using the used dataset. The search results to rediscover the deleted SMS depend on the possibility of overwriting process and the vacuum procedure on the database file.
Scaffold, a template resemble an extracellular matrix, contributes a necessary part in tissue engineering to accommodate the growth of cells. In the development of scaffold made from organic ...materials such as chitosan and gelatin, researchers have done various ways to modify its properties and one of them is by incorporate it with inorganic materials. This research explored the potential of silica derived from geothermal power plant waste as a biocomposite material for scaffold. Biocomposites with two-dimensional (2-D) film form were prepared by simple drying process at room temperature and ambient pressure, while three-dimensional (3-D) scaffold form were fabricated by freeze-drying. The obtained biocomposites were characterized by Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). In addition, swelling and degradation tests were also performed on the films and scaffolds. The results showed that there are interactions between each component in chitosan/gelatin/geothermal silica biocomposites and the addition of geothermal silica decreases the swelling and degradation rates of the biocomposites. These results indicate that geothermal silica has a high potential to be used as an additive for controlling the physical properties of chitosan/gelatin scaffolds.
Speech recognition technology has been developing very fast lately. One of its application is to know the meaning of some terms included in a geographic dictionary. When a subject speaks a word to ...the system, it will output the word and its meaning and explanation. There are many methods that are applied to speech recognition. One of the methods that can be applied and improve the accuracy of speech recognition is the use of a deep learning method, i.e. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). In this research, CNN's speech recognition accuracy for the Indonesian geographic dictionary is analyzed to show that CNN can improve the accuracy of speech recognition compared to speech recognition with Gaussian mixture model and hidden Markov model (GMM-HMM). CNN is one of deep learning methods that analyzes and finds similarity in Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) from sound waves. This research is performed by making models of the spoken words using CNN under Python and TensorFlow. CNN is trained with these models from speech data collected and prepared from 20 students, consists of 19 men and a woman of different ages from 19 to 23 years. The vocabulary of the database consists of 50 words. The result of this research is a desktop application with the trained models implemented. Our application can recognize well the spoken words from subjects. Testing of the trained models was performed to examine the accuracy of the build speech recognition system. The result of the CNN speech recognition method from the Indonesian geographic dictionary is 80% accuracy for isolated words and 72.67% for continuous words in our research.
HD 167971 is a triple system consisting of a 3.3-day eclipsing binary (O5-8 V + O5-8 V) and an O8 supergiant. It is also a well known non-thermal radio emitter. We observed the radio emission of HD ...167971 with the Very Large Array (VLA) and the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). By combining these data with VLA archive observations we constructed a radio lightcurve covering a 20-yr time-range. We searched for, but failed to find, the 3.3-day spectroscopic period of the binary in the radio data. This could be due to the absence of intrinsic synchrotron radiation in the colliding- wind region between the two components of the eclipsing binary, or due to the large amount of free-free absorption that blocks the synchrotron radiation. We are able to explain many of the observed characteristics of the radio data if the non-thermal emission is produced in a colliding-wind region between the supergiant and the combined winds of the binary. Furthermore, if the system is gravitationally bound, the orbital motion occurs over a period of similar to 20 years or longer, as suggested by the long-term variability in the radio data. We argue that the variability is due to the free-free absorption that changes with orbital phase or may also in part be due to changes in separation, should the orbit be eccentric.
The effect of strain range and temperature on the low-cycle fatigue behaviour and microstructure change during cyclic deformation of Alloy 617 for use in very high temperature gas-cooled reactor ...components were studied at elevated temperature starting from ambient condition. Increasing the strain range and the temperature was noticed to reduce the fatigue resistance of nickel-based Alloy 617 due to facilitating the transformation behavior of the carbides in the grain interior, precipitates along the grain boundary, and oxidation behavior inducing surface connected precipitates cracking. Initial hardening behavior was observed at room temperature condition during cyclic due to the pile-up dislocation of micro-precipitates. The grain size was also taking a role due to the formation of an obstacle in the matrix. In the high temperature regime, the alloy 617 was found to soften for its entire life due to the fast recovery deformation, proved by its higher plasticity compared with lower temperature. The deformation behavior also showing high environmentally assisted damage. Oxidation behavior was found to become the primary crack initiation, resulting in early intergranular surface cracking.
We present a radio lightcurve of the O5.5 III(f+) star HD 168112, based on archive data from the Very Large Array (VLA) and the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). The fluxes show considerable ...variability and a negative spectral index, thereby confirming that HD 168112 is a non-thermal radio emitter. The non-thermal radio emission is believed to be due to synchrotron radiation from relativistic electrons that have been Fermi accelerated in shocks. For HD 168112, it is not known whether these shocks are due to a wind-wind collision in a binary system or to the intrinsic instability of the stellar wind driving mechanism. Assuming HD 168112 to be a single star, our synchrotron model shows that the velocity jump of the shocks should be a very high, or there should be a very large number of shocks in the wind. Neither of these is compatible with time-dependent hydrodynamical calculations of O star winds. If, on the other hand, we assume that HD 168112 is a binary, the high velocity jump is easily explained by ascribing it to the wind-wind collision. By further assuming the star to be an eccentric binary, we can explain the observed radio variability by the colliding-wind region moving in and out of the region where free-free absorption is important. The radio data presented here show that the binary has a period of between one and two years. By combining the radio data with X-ray data, we find that the most likely period is 61.4 yr.
Integrated science learning should master the entire science study holistically and achieve it needs to be implemented collaboratively. This study aims to describe an integrated science course ...process and the possibility of implementing CSCL learning environments. Qualitative descriptive was used to analyze data. Data were collected using closed questionnaires with interviews added. The results revealed that there were no collaborative discussions during the course by students that lead affect misconceptions and difficulties to learn of integrated science, due to differences in scientific background. The opportunity to implementing CSCL learning environment is relatively wide due to the availability of technology facilities and skills, but it needs training in operating blogs, wikis, scripts, and interactive multimedia as a CSCL strategy.
