With the development of automatic measurement and data storage, vast quantities of data can be recorded and analyzed for heat transfer processes, which provides an opportunity to discover the ...transient heat transfer governing laws from the data. In this study, a machine learning-based sequential threshold ridge regression (STRidge) approach is applied to extract partial differential equations (PDEs) and tested on the heat conduction equation and conductive–convective heat transfer equation subjected to different boundary conditions, data volumes, and noise levels. Moreover, we studied the learning of governing equation of nonlinear transient heat transfer and used the improved STRidge with genetic algorithm to learn PDE with incomplete candidate library. The results showcase highly accurate identification of governing equations for heat transfer. And our results reveal the vast potential of the data-driven method in complex geothermal problems.
A compatible spanning circuit in an edge-colored graph
G
(not necessarily properly) is defined as a closed trail containing all vertices of
G
in which any two consecutively traversed edges have ...distinct colors. The existence of extremal compatible spanning circuits (i.e., compatible Hamilton cycles and compatible Euler tours) has been studied extensively. Recently, sufficient conditions for the existence of compatible spanning circuits visiting each vertex at least a specified number of times in specific edge-colored graphs satisfying certain degree conditions have been established. In this paper, we continue the research on sufficient conditions for the existence of such compatible s-panning circuits. We consider edge-colored graphs containing no certain forbidden induced subgraphs. As applications, we also consider the existence of such compatible spanning circuits in edge-colored graphs

As an important recreational water facility on cruise ships, swimming pool brings remarkable energy demand due to the requirement of comfort. In order to reduce the energy consumption during the ...operation of the swimming pool, this study proposes a hybrid heating system of air source heat pump water heater/chillers (ASHP) and exhaust gas boiler applicable to the cruise ship swimming pool by regarding the parameters of a Vista-class cruise ship resort pool. A simulation model is developed via TRNSYS for a dynamic simulation of energy demand under the predicted climate conditions of cruise line. According to the simulation results, a sizing method based on economy and comfort index is proposed for the capacity of the heat pump. The performance of heat pump partially replaced the existing method is also discussed, which proves the adoption of the ventilation system with variable air volume control can make the variation range of room temperature acceptable during the operation of the heat pump. Under the annual state of navigation and in-port, the proposed system (PS) shows significant economic, energy saving and emission advantages while ensuring comfort level when compared with the existing system (ES) of the same specification, while these advantages will be further expanded with the increase of in-port duration, pool area and service life.
To evaluate the effects and optimal parameters of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on cognition function of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and to estimate which cognitive ...function may obtain more benefits from rTMS.
The articles dealing with rTMS on cognitive function of PD patients were retrieved from the databases until April 2019. Outcomes of global cognitive function and different cognitive domains were extracted. The standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence interval (CI) of cognitive outcome for different parameters, scales, and cognitive functions were estimated.
Fourteen studies involving 173 subjects were included in this meta-analysis. A significant effect size was observed with the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) for the global cognitive outcome based on the evidence of four published articles. Further subtests for different cognitive domains demonstrated prominent effect for the executive function. The significant effect sizes for executive function were found with multiple sessions of high-frequency rTMS over frontal cortex; especially over dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). All of the other cognitive domains, which included memory, attention, and language ability, did not obtain significant effects.
Multiple sessions of high-frequency rTMS over the DLPFC may have positive effect on executive function in PD patients. Further well designed studies with large sample sizes are needed to verify our results and ascertain the long-term effects of rTMS.
Transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation, which involves the application of electrical currents to the cervical (tcVNS) or auricular (taVNS) branches of the vagus nerve, may be a potential treatment ...for improving cognitive dysfunction. taVNS may improve cognitive performance in healthy adults, and fewer studies have been performed on the effects of tcVNS on cognition in healthy subjects. We conducted a randomized, single-blind, crossover-controlled trial to investigate the effects of tcVNS stimulation on cognitive function and neural activity in the brains of healthy adults. This study provides support for further tcVNS studies for the treatment of cognitive impairment. Twenty-one participants were randomly divided into two groups, A and B. Group A received tcVNS first and then sham-tcVNS, while group B received the intervention in the reverse order, receiving sham stimulation first and then true stimulation. All subjects were required to perform cognitive function tests before and after receiving intervention, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was performed concurrently during the intervention. We hypothesized that tcVNS would have an effect on the cognitive performance of the subjects and alter the neural activity of the brain. The present study showed that tcVNS had beneficial effects on cognitive performance, mainly improving memory and language skills and attention. tcVNS intervention produced significant spontaneous neural activity in the calcarine gyrus, fusiform gyrus, lingual gyrus, and parahippocampal gyrus of the brain. Future tcVNS/fMRI trials will need to explore the effects of changes in stimulus parameters on the neural activity response of the brain.
It is widely believed that effective water resource management can optimize the scheduling of water supply plans, which is essential for sustainable development. The core of management is to ...accurately predict future water consumption. However, existing studies generally face two challenges. First, a reliable bottom platform for the support of online data integration is absent. In addition, multisource factors that primarily affect water consumption are neglected when modeling. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a data-driven peer-to-peer blockchain framework to predict water consumption. Fundamentally, it utilizes a blockchain system with a peer-to-peer network to serve as the decision support platform hardware. On this basis, an intelligent prediction algorithm that combines the grey model and long short-term memory model is developed to drive the hardware infrastructure. After that, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated by carrying out experiments on a real-world dataset, and three typical approaches are selected for comparison. The experimental results show that the proposal exceeds general prediction models by approximately 8%.

The magnetically responsive anti-fouling nanofiber membrane (MRANM) was fabricated for efficient oil-water emulsion separation, which could be cleaned using oscillating magnetic ...field. MRANM was prepared by grafting superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles onto the surface of electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofiber membrane (PANM). Compared with PANM, the water contact angle of MRANM decreased from 104° to 0°, indicating that the hydrophilicity of the membrane was significantly improved. For the emulsions of hexadecane, octane and rapeseed oil, the separation efficiency was 98.04%, 96.59% and 92.67%, respectively. After the treatments in oscillating magnetic field, the separation efficiency kept above 95% after 8 times recycling, which indicated that the MRANM had good regenerability and reusability. The as-fabricated membrane with magnetic responsiveness facilitated an effective method for solving the membrane fouling problem during practical applications of separation high viscosity oil-water emulsion.
The observation of abundant topological properties in optical platforms has attracted people's attention due to their great advantages in fundamental topological research and practical applications. ...Here, we use a double Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chain structure composed of split ring resonators (SRRs) to mimic a Kitaev model. By properly tuning the orientation angles of the slits of the SRRs, we can ingeniously design the complex coupling distribution. We experimentally measure the topological phase transition of the double SSH model by adjusting the distance between the two chains and observe the topological bound states in the topological nontrivial phase. Importantly, inserting a trivial structure into the topological chain, we show the coupling of two topological bound states. By increasing the length of the inserted trivial chain, we observe that two topological bound states gradually approach each other and degenerate in the critical state. In addition, we theoretically study the controllable topological bound states and exceptional point physics formed by topological bound states. Our findings not only clearly show the establishing process of the photonic bound states in a double SSH chain, but also may facilitate some applications such as sensors, energy transfer, and switch with topological protection.
