The textile industry is one of the most valuable industries, especially in developing countries, because it employs a large portion of the workforce. However, the development of the textile industry ...has led to increasing concern about environmental issues. Wastewater from the textile industry has a high COD and an undesirable color. Color is one of the problems with the wastewater due to its toxicity and low biodegradability. Color in textile wastewater mainly originates from the dyestuff used during the dyeing or printing process. Amongst all of available technology for color removal, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are considered one of the best and the most potential technology. However, the understanding of AOPs reaction mechanism to degrade dyestuff is still limited. In general, dyes degradation mechanism will vary and mainly depend on the chemical structure of the dyes itself. Some reaction pathway that seems less favorable thermodynamically can still happen during the process. Understanding the mechanism will be beneficial for future dyes improvement, especially on developing the moiety of the aromatic compound in order to produce easily degraded dyes while maintaining the fastness quality.

Abstract
Water utilities are affected by various social, environmental, and technological factors and are increasingly required to enhance their infrastructure and long-term efficiency. Performance ...indicators are useful tools for assessing the operational, financial, environmental, and social aspects of water systems. Given this background, the author reviewed the literature on performance indicators for the water sector and summarized the research trends as follows. As a perspective, there are a lot of good mathematical and theoretical studies on distribution pipes and leakage management. Future research should address the problems of water utilities, by using multiple levels of performance indicators including social and environmental context in the long term. Asset management and utility management studies address diverse and current problems faced by water utilities. However, there is still room for improvement in standardizing the methodology for data collection, processing, and integration. In addition, it is recommended for future research, to include carbon neutrality aspect, to include pipeline materials and soil information in leakage management, to extend asset management studies to treatment plants, with including additional indicators about human and financial resources.
Androgens play a vital role not only in promoting the development of male sexual characteristics but also in exerting diverse physiological effects, including the regulation of skeletal muscle growth ...and function. Given that the effects of androgens are mediated through androgen receptor (AR) binding, an understanding of AR functionality is crucial for comprehending the mechanisms of androgen action on skeletal muscles. Drawing from insights gained using conditional knockout mouse models facilitated by Cre/loxP technology, we review the cell-specific functions of AR in skeletal muscles. We focus on three specific cell populations expressing AR within skeletal muscles: skeletal muscle cells, responsible for muscle contraction; satellite cells, which are essential stem cells contributing to the growth and regeneration of skeletal muscles; and mesenchymal progenitors, situated in interstitial areas and playing a crucial role in muscle homeostasis. Furthermore, the indirect effects of androgens on skeletal muscle through extra-muscle tissue are essential, especially for the regulation of skeletal muscle mass. The regulation of genes by AR varies across different cell types and contexts, including homeostasis, regeneration and hypertrophy of skeletal muscles. The varied mechanisms orchestrated by AR collectively influence the physiology of skeletal muscles.
Natural organic matter (NOM), commonly found in surface and ground waters, form disinfection by-products in drinking water. Generally, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) featuring hydrogen peroxide ...are used to treat water; however, sulfate radical recently has been used to treat recalcitrant organics, because it is associated with a higher oxidation potential and more effective removal than hydroxyl radicals. Hence, in this research, we evaluated persulfate oxidation efficiency in terms of reductions in humic substance levels and investigated the degradation mechanism. The results showed that ultraviolet-activated persulfate effectively treated humic substances compared with hydrogen peroxide and direct irradiation. Treatment was dose and wavelength dependent; higher persulfate concentrations or shorter UV wavelengths were more effective for treating humic substances as high concentration sulfate radicals were created. The degradation mechanism was similar to that of hydrogen peroxide. Aromatic and chromophore components were more susceptible to degradation than were lower molecular weight components, being initially decomposed into the latter, reducing UV

Summary Background Results from a previous phase 3 study suggested that prophylactic cranial irradiation reduces the incidence of symptomatic brain metastases and prolongs overall survival compared ...with no prophylactic cranial irradiation in patients with extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer. However, because of the absence of brain imaging before enrolment and variations in chemotherapeutic regimens and irradiation doses, concerns have been raised about these findings. We did a phase 3 trial to reassess the efficacy of prophylactic cranial irradiation in the treatment of extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer. Methods We did this randomised, open-label, phase 3 study at 47 institutions in Japan. Patients with extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer who had any response to platinum-based doublet chemotherapy and no brain metastases on MRI were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive prophylactic cranial irradiation (25 Gy in ten daily fractions of 2·5 Gy) or observation. All patients were required to have brain MRI at 3-month intervals up to 12 months and at 18 and 24 months after enrolment. Randomisation was done by computer-generated allocation sequence, with age as a stratification factor and minimisation by institution, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, and response to initial chemotherapy. The primary endpoint was overall survival, analysed in the intention-to-treat population. This trial is registered with the UMIN Clinical Trials Registry, number UMIN000001755, and is closed to new participants. Findings Between April 3, 2009, and July 17, 2013, 224 patients were enrolled and randomly assigned (113 to prophylactic cranial irradiation and 111 to observation). In the planned interim analysis on June 18, 2013, of the first 163 enrolled patients, Bayesian predictive probability of prophylactic cranial irradiation being superior to observation was 0·011%, resulting in early termination of the study because of futility. In the final analysis, median overall survival was 11·6 months (95% CI 9·5–13·3) in the prophylactic cranial irradiation group and 13·7 months (10·2–16·4) in the observation group (hazard ratio 1·27, 95% CI 0·96–1·68; p=0·094). The most frequent grade 3 or worse adverse events at 3 months were anorexia (six 6% of 106 in the prophylactic cranial irradiation group vs two 2% of 111 in the observation group), malaise (three 3% vs one <1%), and muscle weakness in a lower limb (one <1% vs six 5%). No treatment-related deaths occurred in either group. Interpretation In this Japanese trial, prophylactic cranial irradiation did not result in longer overall survival compared with observation in patients with extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer. Prophylactic cranial irradiation is therefore not essential for patients with extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer with any response to initial chemotherapy and a confirmed absence of brain metastases when patients receive periodic MRI examination during follow-up. Adult tissue repair and regeneration require stem-progenitor cells that can self-renew and generate differentiated progeny. Skeletal muscle regenerative capacity relies on muscle satellite cells ...(MuSCs) and their interplay with different cell types within the niche. However, our understanding of skeletal muscle tissue cellular composition is limited. Here, using a combined approach of single-cell RNA sequencing and mass cytometry, we precisely mapped 10 different mononuclear cell types in adult mouse muscle. We also characterized gene signatures and determined key discriminating markers of each cell type. We identified two previously understudied cell populations in the interstitial compartment. One expresses the transcription factor scleraxis and generated tenocytes in vitro. The second expresses markers of smooth muscle and mesenchymal cells (SMMCs) and, while distinct from MuSCs, exhibited myogenic potential and promoted MuSC engraftment following transplantation. The blueprint presented here yields crucial insights into muscle-resident cell-type identities and can be exploited to study muscle diseases.

Background:Venous thromboembolism (VTE) has a long-term risk of recurrence, which can be prevented by anticoagulation therapy.Methods and Results:The COMMAND VTE Registry is a multicenter registry ...enrolling 3,027 consecutive patients with acute symptomatic VTE between January 2010 and August 2014. The entire cohort was divided into the transient risk (n=855, 28%), unprovoked (n=1,477, 49%), and cancer groups (n=695, 23%). The rate of anticoagulation discontinuation was highest in the cancer group (transient risk: 37.3% vs. unprovoked: 21.4% vs. cancer: 43.5% at 1 year, P<0.001). The cumulative 5-year incidences of recurrent VTE, major bleeding and all-cause death were highest in the cancer group (recurrent VTE: 7.9% vs. 9.3% vs. 17.7%, P<0.001; major bleeding: 9.0% vs. 9.4% vs. 26.6%, P<0.001; and all-cause death: 17.4% vs. 15.3% vs. 73.1%, P<0.001). After discontinuation of anticoagulation therapy, the cumulative 3-year incidence of recurrent VTE was lowest in the transient risk group (transient risk: 6.1% vs. unprovoked: 15.3% vs. cancer: 13.2%, P=0.001). The cumulative 3-year incidence of recurrent VTE beyond 1 year was lower in patients on anticoagulation than in patients off anticoagulation at 1 year in the unprovoked group (on: 3.7% vs. off: 12.2%, P<0.001), but not in the transient risk and cancer groups (respectively, 1.6% vs. 2.5%, P=0.30; 5.6% vs. 8.6%, P=0.44).Conclusions:The duration of anticoagulation therapy varied widely in discordance with current guideline recommendations. Optimal duration of anticoagulation therapy should be defined according to the risk of recurrent VTE and bleeding as well as death.
Myanmar is an agriculture-based country with 70% of the total population residing in rural areas. Around half of the total population in Myanmar has to consume water from unimproved sources. The ...prevalence of diarrhea due to contaminated drinking water is high even in urban areas. The urban community may expect the provision of municipal water supply in the near future if the current revolution against military dictatorship succeeds. However, the rural areas have less or no chance to get quality water because of a lot of other prioritized tasks. Household water treatment is encouraged to be implemented as one of the national water safety plans for rural water supply in Myanmar. This study explored the diarrhea prevention awareness of the rural community using a questionnaire survey. The microbial quality parameters of drinking water sources were also examined. Fecal coliform contamination was detected in all examined drinking water sources. A significant association was found between drinking untreated water and the occurrence of diarrhea. The percentage of people who applied the diarrhea preventive measures was low. Even if they knew how to prevent the disease, very few people applied the measures in reality. Therefore, measures to cause behavioral change should be initiated, together with awareness raising, to promote diarrhea prevention in the community.
In CheckMate 227, nivolumab plus ipilimumab prolonged overall survival (OS) versus chemotherapy in patients with tumor programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) greater than or equal to 1% (primary end ...point) or less than 1% (prespecified descriptive analysis). We report results with minimum 4 years' follow-up.
Adults with previously untreated stage IV or recurrent NSCLC were randomized (1:1:1) to nivolumab plus ipilimumab, nivolumab, or chemotherapy (PD-L1 ≥1%); or to nivolumab plus ipilimumab, nivolumab plus chemotherapy, or chemotherapy (PD-L1 <1%). Efficacy included OS and other measures. Safety included timing and management of immune-mediated adverse events (AEs). A post hoc analysis evaluated efficacy in patients who discontinued nivolumab plus ipilimumab due to treatment-related AEs (TRAEs).
After 54.8 months' median follow-up, OS remained longer with nivolumab plus ipilimumab versus chemotherapy in patients with PD-L1 greater than or equal to 1% (hazard ratio = 0.76; 95% confidence interval: 0.65–0.90) and PD-L1 less than 1% (0.64; 0.51–0.81); 4-year OS rate with nivolumab plus ipilimumab versus chemotherapy was 29% versus 18% (PD-L1 ≥1%); and 24% versus 10% (PD-L1 <1%). Benefits were observed in both squamous and nonsquamous histologies. In a descriptive analysis, efficacy was improved with nivolumab plus ipilimumab relative to nivolumab (PD-L1 ≥1%) and nivolumab plus chemotherapy (PD-L1 <1%). Safety was consistent with previous reports. The most common immune-mediated AE with nivolumab plus ipilimumab, nivolumab, and nivolumab plus chemotherapy was rash; most immune-mediated AEs (except endocrine events) occurred within 6 months from start of treatment and resolved within 3 months after, mainly with systemic corticosteroids. Patients who discontinued nivolumab plus ipilimumab due to TRAEs had long-term OS benefits, as seen in the all randomized population.
At more than 4 years' minimum follow-up, with all patients off immunotherapy treatment for at least 2 years, first-line nivolumab plus ipilimumab continued to demonstrate durable long-term efficacy in patients with advanced NSCLC. No new safety signals were identified. Immune-mediated AEs occurred early and resolved quickly with guideline-based management. Discontinuation of nivolumab plus ipilimumab due to TRAEs did not have a negative impact on the long-term benefits seen in all randomized patients.
Yangon was one of the first cities in Asia to establish a tap water system. However, the city's water supply infrastructure now lags far behind those of other regions as a consequence of political ...instability over the last six decades. The installation of disinfection facilities in the tap water system and the enactment of the Myanmar National Drinking Water Quality Standard (MNDWQS) were accomplished only recently during the short period of democratic government. Due to the lack of reliable published information, the suitability of the tap water for drinking remains unclear to city residents. The quality of tap water and bottled water in the central business district was examined to assess compliance with the MNDWQS. The results showed that 95% of tap water delivered to homes was contaminated with Escherichia coli or coliform bacteria. Only 14% of bottled water was free of E. coli and coliform contamination. The efficacy of household treatment devices was tested, and ceramic purifiers (CPs) and reverse osmosis (RO) devices were found to be highly (>99%) effective for E. coli elimination. RO devices performed better in terms of dissolved organic carbon reduction at 60% compared with 43% reduction with CPs.
