Solid-state composites of NaBH
4 and Co-based catalyst have been fabricated for hydrogen generation via a novel mechanochemical technique, i.e. the high-energy ball milling, in which the gravimetric ...storage capacity of hydrogen has reached 6.7 wt%, meeting the 2010 target of at least 0.06 kg H
2/kg set by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The active catalysts used in the hydrolysis reaction of sodium borohydride for hydrogen generation are mainly cobalt oxides. Controlled addition of water, namely water used as a limiting agent, to the solid composites of NaBH
4 and Co-based catalyst greatly improves the H
2 storage capacity and resolved the issues of low gravimetric H
2 storage in conventional aqueous system of sodium borohydride. Factors influencing the performance of hydrogen production such as amounts of H
2O added, catalyst loadings and durations of ball-milling processes are investigated. Moreover the hydrolyzed products of NaBH
4 and spent catalysts are analyzed as well.
Polymer template-Ru composite (Ru/IR-120) catalyst was prepared using a simple and fast method for generating hydrogen from an aqueous alkaline NaBH sub(4 solution. The hydrogen generation rate was ...determined as a function of solution temperature, NaBH) sub(4) concentration, and NaOH (a base-stabilizer) concentration. The maximum hydrogen generation rate reached 132 ml minsuper-1 gsuper-1 catalyst at 298 K, using a Ru/IR-120 catalyst that contained only 1 wt.% Ru. The catalyst exhibits a quick response and good durability during the hydrolysis of alkaline NaBH sub(4 solution. The activation energy for the hydrogen generation reaction was determined to be 49.72 kJ molsuper-1.)

High-energy ball milling was employed to regenerate spent-sodium borohydride, i.e., mainly the sodium metaborate (NaBO sub(2), back to sodium borohydride (NaBH) sub(4)) by a reaction with magnesium ...hydride (MgH sub(2). The samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In general, as the ball-milling duration increases, the yield of NaBH) sub(4) increases accordingly and leads to an extreme value of 76%, when MgH sub(2 in stoichiometric excess by 40% was initially present in ball mills.)

The framework of the group program was based on “The Relationship Intimacy Model of Couple Adaptation to Cancer” proposed by Sharon Manne and Hoda Badr in 2008. 5 breast cancer couples agreed to participate in the 13-hour workshop after having read and signed the informed consents in 2010. Participants wrote the group feedback forms immediately after the workshop and were i
The use of versatile sorbents has been investigated for wastewater treatment. An investigation into the use of activated alumina-supported iron oxide (denoted as FeAA), which is a by-product of the ...wastewater treatment plant. In our previous study, the FeAA has successfully been as heterogeneous photoassisted Fenton catalyst for degradation azo dye at neutral pH 7.0. In this work, the test and use of FeAA as adsorbent for the removal of lead (Pb

The mechanism of cake filtration of soft colloids was studied. Cake filtration experiments of the floc of Dextran-MnO2 and PMMA particles were conducted to examine the performances ...and the structure of flux limiting layer formed by soft colloids. Effects of particle deformation and compression due to frictional drag and mass of cake on the reduction of porosity was studied to understand how this variation led to the increase in filtration resistance. Results showed that as the cake formed by soft colloids exhibits a rapid increase in flow resistance or decrease in porosity due to the area contact between particles and the deformation of particles, and a flux limiting layer is formed next to the filter medium during filtration. From the trend of filtration curve of soft colloids, the filtration operation can be divided into three periods. At the beginning of filtration, the cake formation and the rearrangement of particles in cake cause the filtration resistance to increase. These phenomena a
Recent studies have suggested the suboptimal efficacy of liposomal irinotecan plus 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin (nal-IRI+5-FU/LV) in metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (mPDAC) patients ...previously treated with conventional irinotecan. This study investigated the effect of conventional irinotecan treatment in mPDAC patients receiving nal-IRI+5-FU/LV by analyzing a population-based dataset.
We reviewed 667 consecutive mPDAC patients treated with nal-IRI+5-FU/LV between August 2018 and November 2020 at Taiwanese medical centers. Eighty-six patients previously treated with conventional irinotecan were matched to 86 patients not treated with conventional irinotecan, following propensity matching for age, sex, performance status, metastatic organ site, pre-treatment carbohydrate antigen 19-9 level, lines of prior chemotherapy treatment, and time from first-line treatment to nal-IRI+5-FU/LV therapy.
The median overall survival and time-to-treatment failure were 4.8 and 2.6 vs 4.1 and 2.1 months, respectively, for patients who were and were not previously treated with conventional irinotecan. The tumor response and disease control rates were 5.8% and 32.6% vs 5.8% and 37.2%, respectively, for patients previously treated and not treated with conventional irinotecan. No significant differences were observed in survival times and tumor response rates between the two groups.
Previous conventional irinotecan treatment does not compromise the efficacy of subsequent nal-IRI+5-FU/LV treatment in mPDAC patients.
Camphorquinone (CQ) is a popularly-used photosensitizer in composite resin restoration. In this study, the effects of CQ on cytotoxicity and inflammation-related genes and proteins expression of pulp ...cells were investigated. The role of reactive oxygen species (ROS), ATM/Chk2/p53 and hemeoxygenase-1 (HO-1) and MEK/ERK signaling was also evaluated. We found that ROS and free radicals may play important role in CQ toxicity. CQ (1 and 2 mM) decreased the viability of pulp cells to about 70% and 50% of control, respectively. CQ also induced G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of pulp cells. The expression of type I collagen, cdc2, cyclin B, and cdc25C was inhibited, while p21, HO-1 and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) were stimulated by CQ. CQ also activated ATM, Chk2, and p53 phosphorylation and GADD45α expression. Besides, exposure to CQ increased cellular ROS level and 8-isoprostane production. CQ also stimulated COX-2 expression and PGE2 production of pulp cells. The reduction of cell viability caused by CQ can be attenuated by N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD), but can be promoted by Zinc protoporphyin (ZnPP). CQ stimulated ERK1/2 phosphorylation, and U0126 prevented the CQ-induced COX-2 expression and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production. These results indicate that CQ may cause cytotoxicity, cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and PGE2 production of pulp cells. These events could be due to stimulation of ROS and 8-isoprostane production, ATM/Chk2/p53 signaling, HO-1, COX-2 and p21 expression, as well as the inhibition of cdc2, cdc25C and cyclin B1. These results are important for understanding the role of ROS in pathogenesis of pulp necrosis and pulpal inflammation after clinical composite resin filling.
