Firms of different business strategy types reveal
different behavioural patterns in their innovation and
business performance while facing various difficulties
as they seek to adapt to a turbulent ...competitive environment. Accordingly, we want to make progress by using
the dynamic view, which follows the Schumpeterian
perspective of firm behaviour through innovation (business) strategy. We advocate a dynamic approach to the
strategic and behavioural patterns influencing business
performance that is appropriate for small and mediumsized firms as well as giant corporations in highly competitive industries and catching-up economies. Thus, by
combining different theoretical approaches we develop
an alternative conceptual ‘cost-advantage leader-follower’ (CALF) model of innovation for when firms are
developing cost-cutting process inventions.
Teaching experience plays a productive role in teacher professional development, so it is necessary to examine such experience systematically, either as reflection on action or reflection in action. ...In a sense, reflection has the power to help the teacher connect experience and theoretical knowledge and to use each area of expertise more efficiently (Knezevic and Scholl 1996). Therefore, reflection is an important ‘tool’ to articulate how we know what we do when we teach (ibid.). For this reason, micro-teaching is an opportunity to link theory and practice, critically evaluate one’s teaching skills and to discuss alternative approaches and solutions for the specific teaching context with peer colleagues. This paper will focus, firstly, on the micro-teaching process by explaining the background of this procedure and then by giving the detailed description of the two micro-teaching sessions conducted in January and February 2020 at the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac, Serbia. Secondly, it will consider giving feedback to others, in person and online, using video records, self-evaluation and reflection in peer-teaching process. Finally, the paper will evaluate two peer micro-teaching sessions with a focus on student-student, interaction in university teaching context and advantages and disadvantages in teaching English as a foreign language on one side, and Serbian as the mother tongue on the other.
One of the key success factors of every region is an adequate level of intellectual capital provided by the human capital of its residents. This article aims to show that low levels of regional ...development in Slovenia's least developed region of Pomurje corresponds to the low levels of intellectual capital. The article reviews the literature on the concept and measurement of intellectual capital and provides operationalization of intellectual capital suitable for assessing its levels on a regional, subnational level. The results show that Pomurje has lower level of intellectual capital from the national average. Furthermore, the analysis of rates of growth of intellectual capital indicate the systematic lagging of Pomurje region behind Slovenian average. The case study highlights the problem of brain drain as the key contextual factor that influences the size of intellectual capital and negatively affects the performance of the region thus pointing to priorities of a more effective developmental policy.
This paper investigates the economic role of advertising during the ten-year period (1996-2006) which covers Slovenian transition period, including joining the EU and the adoption of euro. The paper ...addresses the importance of a changing political climate on advertising decisions. It briefly reviews studies of the impact of aggregate advertising on a broader macroeconomic level and concentrates on the differences between advertising in domestic and foreign firms. During the early stages of transition in Slovenia the growth rates of top Slovenian advertisers, both domestic and foreign, were high but later, as Slovenia was experiencing higher economic growth, they decreased. We argue that the impact of political changes on the advertising behaviour of firms can be observed. No substantial differences between domestic and foreign firms or their subsidiaries regarding advertising behaviour can be found. The article theoretically analyses two different economic views on advertising (as a kind of marketing "tool") or advertising outlays with the implications for the welfare of knowledge-based society. ...The latter derive also from Galbraith's view on advertising. The classic economic approach understands advertising outlays as sunk costs, illustrated by Dorfman-Steiner theorem. The alternative post-Keynesian approach understands them as a kind of non-material (long-run) investment into a brand name to increase the assets & the future firm profits as funds for new continuous R&D & advertising outlays. This view is significant for the highly innovative firms that are forced to innovate permanently in order to maintain their competitive advantage under the circumstances of non-price (Schumpeterian) competition through innovations & in knowledge economy. 42 References. The paper attempts to identify a coherent Post Keynesian approach to advertising. Although the neoclassical explanation of advertising cost is encapsulated by the Dorfman-Steiner theorem, and static ...in character, the Post Keynesian theory provides a realistic and dynamic framework within which advertising can be viewed as strategic investment of firms, financed by their retained profits. The empirical part of the paper analyzes the impact of the flow of profits on advertising outlays for firms in a transition economy and the results confirm the relevance of the Post Keynesian approach.
