PurposeThe purpose of the paper is to present the results of research in the region covered by the Murska Sobota Police Directorate based on semi-structured interviews we conducted with community ...policing officers in the rural and urban areas of Pomurje.Design/methodology/approachCommunity policing is one of the more recent (yet hardly new) ways of ensuring security. It focuses on collaboration between citizens and the police, the joint identification of security issues and resolving them. Not long ago, it was established that policing varies depending on geographical criteria, specifically the urbanisation of the environment since police work in cities is often very narrowly specialised compared to in a rural environment. We were therefore interested in whether the Pomurje region also shows that it is easier to practise community policing in rural areas compared to cities.FindingsThe research results confirm previous findings; namely, that in urban areas approximately two-thirds of the population does not know the community policing officer, leading to the mutual cooperation between residents and the police being poorer than in rural areas. The conclusion describes ways of improving the established situation facing Pomurje.Research limitations/implicationsWe see the limitations of the study in the peculiarities of the Pomurje region; therefore the results cannot be generalised and applied in areas of other police directorates.Originality/valueThe survey offers insight into rural and urban policing in the Pomurje region at the same time, focusing on possibilities for improvements.

Cilj prispevka je predstaviti ...Policijsko upravo Murska Sobota (PU MS) kot primer dobre prakse policijskega sodelovanja s prebivalci. Metode: V prispevku je z uporabo metode študije primera podrobno analizirano in predstavljeno policijsko delo v skupnosti PU MS na območju Pomurja. Ugotovitve: Pomurska policija je v preteklem desetletju uspešno implementirala model policijskega dela v skupnosti in naredila pomemben korak k varnejši lokalni skupnosti, o čemer priča tudi zadovoljstvo Pomurcev z delom policije (Petek in Eman, 2018). Uspešnemu projektu policijskega dela v skupnosti Nazaj k ljudem so sledili še Akademija detektiva Frančeka v Termah Banovci, projekt Družina v prometu v sodelovanju z osnovnimi šolami, preventivni projekti Pobarvali bomo, Soboški bicikl in Skupaj premagovali ovire za slepe v Mestni občini Murska Sobota (MO Murska Sobota), projekt Hvala, ker ne uporabljate mobilnega telefona ter ne nazadnje tudi usposabljanje policistov za delo z AED in pomoč pri srčnem zastoju. PU MS se lahko pohvali tudi z aktivnim sodelovanjem v dobrodelnih akcijah, med katerimi je najbolj znan letni koncert Orkestra slovenske policije, kjer zbrana sredstva podarijo pomoči potrebnim otrokom v regiji. Poleg aktivnega sodelovanja z lokalno skupnostjo PU MS skrbi tudi za svoje zaposlene, pri čemer najbolj izstopa projekt Promocija zdravja na delovnem mestu, ki je dobil državno priznanje za najboljšo dobro prakso na področju varnosti in zdravja pri delu ter priznanje Agencije EU za zdravo in varno delovno okolje za vse generacije. Praktična uporabnost: PU MS je nedvomno primer dobre prakse policijskega dela v skupnosti, ki lahko služi kot model za druge. Nedvomno pa si mora pomurska policija tudi v prihodnje prizadevati in biti dosegljiva ter vidna ljudem, da bodo tudi ljudje pripravljeni sodelovati z njo. Izvirnost/pomembnost prispevka: Prispevek predstavi prvi primer dobre prakse policijskega dela v skupnosti v slovenskem prostoru, ki je uporabna tako za slovensko policijo kot tudi lokalne skupnosti in druge deležnike na področju zagotavljanja varnosti v lokalni skupnosti.
The crime analysis is by our opinion an important factor for a successful response of the police, whether it is reactive or proactive response. Due to the emphasised reason the aim of our research ...was to determine which forms of environmental crime are occurring in the area of the Police directorate Murska Sobota (PU MS) and on the basis of the findings make proposals of solutions for the police. To the analysis of the environmental crime cases from the police statistics for the period 2008 - 2010 the analysis of crime using geographic information systems (GIS) has been added and maps prepared. The maps were prepared with the aim of the visualization of the distribution and possible concentration of the environmental crime in Pomurje. In conclusion, drawn from the analysis of the obtained results, the suggestions of proactive and reactive police measures are given. We used the GIS for analysis of collected data on environmental crime in Pomurje. The transfer of environmental crimes' location coordinates on the map Pomurje allowed us a better analysis and the display of locations of environmental crime offenses. Based on the prepared crime maps and patterns of crime concentration, we proposed specific methods of responses and prevention of environmental crime in the area of PU MS. The research results show that in the area of PU MS the biggest problem in the past three years represent offenses of environmental degradation and pollution, particularly water pollution animal torture and illegal hunting, as well as waste disposal. The outstanding are environmental crime hot spots in the vicinity of the outlying areas of the state border, in the area of the Mura River basin and in the settlements along the main roads between Gornjo Radgona and Lendava. Due to the lack of coordinates of the environmental crime offenses approximately five percent of all detected cases were not included in crime mapping. The crime mapping and identification of environmental crime concentration areas are good starting points for future planning of the police officers' work in the Pomurje region and elsewhere in Slovenia. With increased control in the located areas the police will be able to hinder the offenders and to prevent environmental crime. This is the first such study on environmental crime in Slovenia that uses GIS and crime mapping. The research findings and presented conclusions are inter alia designed for the police or PU MS at their responding to environmental crime. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
Studying the importance of the color and shape perception with peripheral vision on the screen has an important role in digital design to provide designers with guidelines for better performance that ...will contribute to more functional user interfaces. In this paper, we have explored how user experience is affected by moving elements in the peripheral part of the screen, in correlation with other physical parameters that describe their movement. It is known that the motion of the object greatly increases its perception. This paper examines the influence of color, complexity of shape, speed and motion direction of shapes and other parameters on the perception of moving objects by peripheral vision. The attention of the examinees was focused on the central part of the screen by doing three types of tests. During the test, in the area of peripheral vision, moving elements were randomly generated which influenced the attentions of the examinees while testing the response rate and the quality of their perception. The expected preliminary results of peripheral perception studies confirm that numerous parameters such as color, position, shape, and speed of graphic elements affect their peripheral perception.
Abstract Study Objective To correlate tracheal width as measured by ultrasound with width measured by computed tomography (CT), and to evaluate the possible role of ultrasound in the selection of the ...proper size of left-sided double-lumen endotracheal tubes (LDLTs). Design Two independent, prospective, observational clinical studies (Study 1 and Study 2). Setting University hospital. Patients Study 1 included 25 patients and Study 2 included 20 adult thoracic surgery patients who required a LDLT during anesthesia. Interventions and Measurements In Study 1, CT measurements of tracheal width were made at the coronary plane 0.5 cm above the sternoclavicular joint; CT measurements of the left main bronchus diameter were made 1 cm below the carina. Ultrasound measurement of tracheal width was performed just above the sternoclavicular joint in the transversal section. In Study 2, patients' tracheas were intubated with a LDLT based on ultrasound measurements. The frequencies of incorrect selections of LDLT and unsatisfactory lung collapse were analyzed. Main Results There was a strong correlation between tracheal width as measured by ultrasound and tracheal width ( r = 0.882, P < 0.001) and left main bronchus width ( r = 0.832, P < 0.001) as measured by CT. In 5 cases (25%), the incorrect LDLT by ultrasound was selected; and one (5%) was found to have an unsatisfactory lung collapse. Conclusion Measurement of the outer tracheal width by ultrasound can be a useful method for predicting the diameter of left main bronchus and for selecting a LDLT.
The production of precipitated calcium carbonate, PCC, by a semicontinuous process of slaked lime carbonation was performed in a bench-scale chemical reactor, fully controlled by means of custom ...built electronics and software for the personal computer. Calcite crystals, with different characteristic morphologies (rhombohedral, truncated prismatic, scalenohedral, spheroidal or chain-like agglomerates) were produced by varying a range of process parameters, like temperature, supersaturation, gas mixture flow rate, stirring rate and mass concentration of Ca(OH)
2 suspension. In order to identify the effects of the chosen process parameters on the PCC morphology and on the related specific surface area, as well as on the extent of CO
2 conversion, an empirical approach based on the experimental design techniques was employed. A multiple correlation analysis of the obtained data suggests that temperature and conductivity significantly influence the PCC morphology, while CO
2 conversion is principally influenced by stirring rate, conductivity and gas mixture flow rate.

Precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) was prepared by means of semicontinuous carbonation of Ca(OH)^sub 2^ suspension, at 35 and 45 °C and in the presence of non-ionic dextran and dextran sulfate. The ...carbonation process was regulated at different predetermined values of electrical conductivity, that corresponded to different concentrations of dissolved Ca(OH)^sub 2^: 0.5 mS cm^sup -1^ < κ^sub 25^ < 5.0 mS cm^sup -1^. The results of physical-chemical characterization of the product showed that calcite was the only polymorphic modification obtained in the whole range of experimental conditions investigated. In addition, it was found that morphology, crystal size distribution and specific surface area of PCC strongly depended on the electrical conductivity / concentration of dissolved Ca(OH)^sub 2^, at which the process was performed: predominantly scalenohedral crystals of higher surface area (about 5 m^sup 2^ g^sup -1^) were produced at higher electrical conductivity, while at lower electrical conductivity predominantly rhomohedral calcite crystals of relatively low specific surface area were obtained. In the system of the highest electrical conductivity, κ^sub 25^ = 5.0 mS cm^sup -1^, and at 35 °C, the addition of non-ionic dextran significantly influenced the process by preventing the regulation. The crystals that appeared were in the form of irregular aggregates of high specific surface area, S asymptotically = 29 m^sup 2^ g^sup -1^. FT-IR and TG analyses indicated that the non-ionic dextran was adsorbed onto the calcite surface, most probably by relatively strong and specific interactions between oxygen from the hydroxyl groups of dextran molecules and calcium ions from the crystal surface. On the contrary, the anionic dextran (dextran sulfate) exerted minor effects in the course of semicontinuous carbonation process and in the properties of the final product, PCC. However, the analysis of the precipitate indicated that dextran sulfate was adsorbed at the surfaces, most probably by the weak and non-specific electrostatic interactions. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
