Peu de boissons sont aussi présentes dans la culture française que l’absinthe, ce spiritueux à base de Artemisia absinthium, autrement nommée herbe de la Saint-Jean. Traitée par les uns comme fée ...verte, accusée par les autres « qu’elle rend fou et criminel, fait de l’homme une bête et menace l’avenir de notre temps » (formulations des ligues de vertu du début du XXe s.), l’absinthe a fourni un motif largement exploité dans la littérature, dans la peinture, dans la chanson etc. L’usage de l’absinthe s’est largement popularisé à la fin du XIXe et au début de XXe siècle. Par conséquent, la boisson a obtenu en français plusieurs appellations informelles, oscillant entre les formulations mélioratives comme nymphe verte et péjoratives comme poison vert. Dans notre article, il sera question de présenter le lexique de l’absinthe, standard et non standard, ainsi que la façon dont différents auteurs français ont parlé de cette boisson dans leurs ouvrages.
In the centenary of the First World War many historical studies concerning the period between 1914 and 1918 and its consequences have appeared in France. Many of these are also interested in the ...public discourse of this time and its language, especially the lexicon. There is no doubt that it is not only the history of the country and of its citizens that has been marked by the war, but also the French vocabulary. Numerous dictionaries containing war vocabulary have been published in recent years, while others are still being prepared, and all of them prove the existence of an indissoluble bond between the history of a community and its language.The horror of the First and Second World Wars did not cause the world to abandon military conflicts. They continued over the whole 20th century and have not ceased at the beginning of the third millennium. Poland, which since 1945 has not been involved in international military conflicts on its own territory, has nonetheless taken part in the so-called local wars, among them the recent (2002-2014) war in Afghanistan. The majority of Polish society (70-80%) has never accepted the engagement of national forces in this conflict, even though it used to be called “a peaceful mission”.The common experience of over 28.000 Polish soldiers who have served in Afghanistan has found its reflection in reports, books and blogs written by the participants. These texts, though rather rare, contain specific vocabulary that has developed in Task Force White Eagle (names for weapons, mines, military actions, enemies, etc.). In this article, the language of the mission is analyzed and the question is raised about the possible functions of this specific jargon.
Geographically distant societies do not always share the same cultural restrictions; similarly, next generations sometimes abandon old taboos, creating new ones at the same time. One can observe that ...a new taboo in modern Western societies is elderliness. In traditional societies, considered as a period of life in which experience gathered through the years gave an elderly person the privilege of being the leader of the group, the passer of knowledge and collective memory. Nowadays elderliness is losing this status, in the age of dynamic progress of education and new media (Balard, 2007). Moreover, with the process of eldering of societies, oldness is becoming more banal and is not a value per se, as it used to be before. On the contrary, the anthropological model dominating in the Western culture is valuating infinite youth and does not leave much place for elderliness and its problems, neither in public life, nor in social discourse. Basing on the textual corpus from years 2015–16, chosen from the Europresse base, our article analyses lexical and discursive tools used in press in order to go around contemporary taboos concerned with talking about elderliness and elderly people. // De même que des communautés plus ou moins éloignées du point de vue géographique ne partagent pas forcément les mêmes interdits, des générations qui suivent abandonnent souvent des tabous valables pour les générations précédentes, tout en pouvant en créer de nouveaux. Il semble que pour les sociétés contemporaines la vieillesse constitue un nouveau sujet de contournement. Vue dans les sociétés traditionnelles comme une période où l’expérience acquise au cours d’une longue vie permettait au vieillard de guider son groupe, de transmettre des savoirs et la mémoire collective, elle perd ce statut actuellement, à l’époque où l’éducation et les nouvelles technologies ont acquis une importance particulière (Balard, 2007). Qui plus est, au fur et à mesure que la population vieillit, le grand âge se banalise et cesse de constituer une valeur en soi, comme cela a été le cas autrefois. À l’opposé, le modèle anthropologique dominant dans la culture occidentale contemporaine, basé sur une quête de jeunesse éternelle, ne laisse plus beaucoup de place à la vieillesse et ses problèmes, tant dans l’espace public que dans le discours social. Sur la base d’un corpus de textes journalistiques recueillis dans la base de données Europresse en 2015 et 2016, notre communication se propose de présenter les procédés, lexicaux d’une part et discursifs de l’autre, qui sont utilisés afin de contourner le tabou de la vieillesse.
Cet article porte sur les formations recentes en -gate qui constituent en français actuel un groupe de neologismes remarquables par leur grande diversité et leur caractere original. En nous appuyant ...sur un corpus de presse constitue de 73 unites créées par allusion au nom propre Watergate et véhiculant le sens de « scandale », « affaire », nous nous proposons d'interroger leurs formes et leurs fonetions, ainsi que de determiner leur stabilite au sein de la langue. Nous distinguons trois modeles néologiques principaux de ces innovations : emprunts, composes hybrides et fractocomposés. L'étude montre que du point de vue de leurs fonetions, les neologismes analyses dépassent de loin la division rigide entre neologismes dénominatifs et stylistiques.

The objective of this article is to study words present in Polish, ending with the English suffix -ing. The set consists of data collected from the Sketch Engine database, which was then searched ...through google.pl search engine, in order to reaffirm or reject their distribution in the discourse. The verification and analysis of presence of these lexical units in the dictionaries enabled the assessment of their actual status in the Polish language; therefore, it can be concluded that the occurrences appearance of -ing words increases. These are mostly borrowings from English, nevertheless, a new tendency to create -ing terms in Polish (allogenisms and hybrids) is clearly visible. Some stylistic specificity of the latter case is to be emphasised. Moreover, words ending in -ing concern various lexical fields, among which the one concerning social behaviours appears to be the most abundant, or even particularly emblematic of the contemporary era.
Our article is a lexical analysis that concerns the world of football and speaks about unofficial names for football teams, which exist alongside their official names and often reflect the strong ...feelings of their supporters and their opponents. For example, beside the official name, Futbol Club Barcelona the media use metonymic names evoking the colors of the club like Blaugranes or Azulgranas, but they also use a more emotional name – Barça. However, this same club is sometimes given a pejorative name – culés, coming from cul ‘behind’ in Catalan, or polacos ‘Poles’ (the pejorative name by which the Spanish designate the Catalans). Our analysis of the forms, content and roles of the unofficial names of some (French, Spanish and Polish) football teams allows us to propose a clear distinction between two types of nicknames: surnoms and sobriquets, two very distinct categories of chrematonyms.
In this article, we intend to follow the spread and circulation of the fake news loan in French, Polish and Czech. We will analyze in particular the way in which this lexical unit is assimilated by ...these three languages, from a phonetic, graphic, morphological and semantic point of view and we will be interested in examining the possible equivalents proposed, either spontaneously by the speakers, or by official French sources.
In Switzerland, the demand for wood is growing. However, federal policy encourages the protection of forest resources in the country, and the general public considers the social and ecological ...functions of the forest to be a priority. This article examines the perception of potential conflicts between the functions of forests. It offers solutions to ensure multi-functionality and improve the profitability of forest enterprises. The method used combines a qualitative survey and a poll performed on a representative sample of the Swiss population. Our results show that although conflicts may arise from time to time, there is no general perception of a conflict between logging and other forest functions. This intensification should however be limited to the annual growth of standing timber and be subjected to careful monitoring to prevent any new conflict from occurring.
En Suisse, la demande de bois croît. Toutefois, la politique fédérale encourage la protection des ressources forestières du pays et le public considère les fonctions sociales et écologiques de la forêt comme prioritaires. Cet article étudie la perception des conflits potentiels entre les fonctions de la forêt. Il propose des solutions pour assurer la multifonctionnalité et améliorer la rentabilité des exploitations forestières. La méthode utilisée combine une enquête qualitative et un sondage représentatif de la population suisse. Nos résultats montrent que, si des conflits peuvent survenir ponctuellement, on ne perçoit généralement pas de conflits entre l’exploitation du bois et les autres fonctions de la forêt. Il existe donc une possibilité d’exploiter davantage le bois suisse sans affaiblir les autres fonctions. Cette intensification devrait cependant se limiter à la croissance annuelle du volume de bois sur pied et faire l’objet d’une observation attentive pour prévenir l’apparition de nouveaux conflits.
