Since the launch of the European Union's (EU's) Eastern Partnership initiative in 2009, it has attracted considerable scholarly attention. Yet, so far it has been largely analysed from a very ...EU-centred perspective, looking into how policies are developed by the EU and what are their effects in the 'target countries'. Rarely has the table been turned around, asking how the EU and its initiatives are viewed in these countries. This article intends to fill this gap by examining perceptions of the EU among think tanks, i.e. civil society actors seeking influence on foreign policy formation in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova. The study maps and evaluates discursive frames used by representatives of think tanks. Methodologically, the research employs content analysis of think tank publications, covering a period of two and a half years - between November 2013 and May 2016.
This article examines the way in which Georgia's political parties use social media. Overall, of available social media, politicians and parties prefer to use Facebook, but they do not take advantage ...of its various interactive features. Politicians point out that the internet audience in Georgia is not yet large enough for them to pay much attention to on-line campaigning. In fact, the main consequence of social media in Georgia seems to be improved communications between the political opposition and Western partners, who exert a powerful influence on Georgian politics.
Since its independence, Georgia has been one of the most vocally independent-minded countries among the Soviet Union's successor states. Ukraine was Georgia's third largest trading partner in 2013 with $795.1m in trade turnover; and any kind of political crisis or unrest immediately influences business and economic relations between the two states. Because Georgia cannot rely on the politically managed Russian market, the Ukrainian market is of significant importance as a regional alternative to Russia.
