The FactSage computer package consists of a series of information, calculation and manipulation modules that enable one to access and manipulate compound and solution databases. With the various ...modules running under Microsoft Windows® one can perform a wide variety of thermochemical calculations and generate tables, graphs and figures of interest to chemical and physical metallurgists, chemical engineers, corrosion engineers, inorganic chemists, geochemists, ceramists, electrochemists, environmentalists, etc. This paper presents a summary of the developments in the FactSage thermochemical software and databases during the last six years. Particular emphasis is placed on the new databases and developments in calculating and manipulating phase diagrams.
Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) applications, featured with data-centric innovations, are leveraging the observability, control, and analytics, as well as the safety of industrial operations. In ...IIoT deployments, wireless links are increasingly used in improving the operational connectivity for industrial data services, such as collecting massive process data, communicating with industrial robots, and tracking machines/parts/products on the factory floor and beyond. Wireless system design for IIoT applications is inherently a joint effort among operational technology (OT) engineers, information technology (IT) system architects, and wireless network planners. In this paper, we propose a new reference framework for wireless system design in IIoT use cases. The framework presents a generic design process and identifies the key questions and tools of individual procedures. Specifically, we extract impact factors from distinct domains including industrial operations and environments, data service dynamics, and the IT infrastructure. We then map these factors into function clusters and discuss their respective impact on performance metrics and resource utilization strategies. Finally, discussions take place in four exemplary IIoT applications where we use the framework to identify wireless network issues and deployment features in the continuous process monitoring, discrete system control, mobile applications, and spectrum harmonization, respectively. The goals of this paper are twofold: 1) to assist OT engineers to better recognize wireless communication demands and challenges in their plants and 2) to help industrial IT specialists to come up with operative and efficient end-to-end wireless solutions to meet demanding needs in factory environments.
Emery‐Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) is a rare muscular dystrophy, but is particularly important to diagnose due to frequent life‐threatening cardiac complications. EDMD classically presents with ...muscle weakness, early contractures, cardiac conduction abnormalities and cardiomyopathy, although the presence and severity of these manifestations vary by subtype and individual. Associated genes include EMD, LMNA, SYNE1, SYNE2, FHL1, TMEM43, SUN1, SUN2, and TTN, encoding emerin, lamin A/C, nesprin‐1, nesprin‐2, FHL1, LUMA, SUN1, SUN2, and titin, respectively. The Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man database recognizes subtypes 1 through 7, which captures most but not all of the associated genes. Genetic diagnosis is essential whenever available, but traditional diagnostic tools can help steer the evaluation toward EDMD and assist with interpretation of equivocal genetic test results. Management is primarily supportive, but it is important to monitor patients closely, especially for potential cardiac complications. There is a high potential for progress in the treatment of EDMD in the coming years.
Superconductivity arises from two distinct quantum phenomena: electron pairing and long-range phase coherence. In conventional superconductors, the two quantum phenomena generally take place ...simultaneously, while in the underdoped high- Tc cuprate superconductors, the electron pairing occurs at higher temperature than the long-range phase coherence. Recently, whether electron pairing is also prior to long-range phase coherence in single-layer FeSe film on SrTiO3 substrate is under debate. Here, by measuring Knight shift and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate, we unambiguously reveal a pseudogap behavior below Tp∼60 K in two kinds of layered FeSe-based superconductors with quasi2D nature. In the pseudogap regime, a weak diamagnetic signal and a remarkable Nernst effect are also observed, which indicates that the observed pseudogap behavior is related to superconducting fluctuations. These works confirm that strong phase fluctuation is an important character in the 2D iron-based superconductors as widely observed in high-Tc cuprate superconductors.

This study presents simulations of the coupled space environment during a geomagnetic storm that separates the different sources of near‐Earth plasma. These simulations include separate fluids for ...solar wind and ionospheric protons, ionospheric oxygen, and the plasmasphere. Additionally, they include the effects of both a hot ring current population and a cold plasmaspheric population simultaneously for a geomagnetic storm. The modeled ring current population represents the solution of bounce‐averaged kinetic solution; the core plasmaspheric model assumes a fixed temperature of 1 eV and constant pressure along the field line. We find that during the storm, ionospheric protons can be a major contributor to the plasmasheet and ring current and that ionospheric plasma can largely displace solar wind protons in much of the magnetosphere under certain conditions. Indeed, the ionospheric source of plasma cannot be ignored. Significant hemispheric asymmetry is found between the outflow calculated in the summer and winter hemispheres, consistent with past observations. That asymmetric outflow is found to lead to asymmetric filling of the lobes, with the northern (summer) lobe receiving more outflow that has a higher proportion of O+ and the southern (winter) lobe receiving less outflow with a higher proportion of H+. We moreover find that the inclusion of the plasmasphere can have a system‐wide impact. Specifically, when the plasmasphere drainage plume reaches the magnetopause, it can reduce the reconnection rate, suppress ionospheric outflow and change its composition, change the composition in the magnetosphere, and reduce the ring current intensity.

Recent advances in single-cell technologies and integration algorithms make it possible to construct comprehensive reference atlases encompassing many donors, studies, disease states, and sequencing ...platforms. Much like mapping sequencing reads to a reference genome, it is essential to be able to map query cells onto complex, multimillion-cell reference atlases to rapidly identify relevant cell states and phenotypes. We present Symphony ( https://github.com/immunogenomics/symphony ), an algorithm for building large-scale, integrated reference atlases in a convenient, portable format that enables efficient query mapping within seconds. Symphony localizes query cells within a stable low-dimensional reference embedding, facilitating reproducible downstream transfer of reference-defined annotations to the query. We demonstrate the power of Symphony in multiple real-world datasets, including (1) mapping a multi-donor, multi-species query to predict pancreatic cell types, (2) localizing query cells along a developmental trajectory of fetal liver hematopoiesis, and (3) inferring surface protein expression with a multimodal CITE-seq atlas of memory T cells.
Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP) are considered to be the major bioactive components of L. barbarum and have been widely used as a well-known traditional Chinese medicine and functional food ...because of their various biological activities. However, no published research has investigated the use of LBP as a feed additive in broilers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary LBP supplementation on the growth performance, digestive enzyme activities, antioxidant status, and immunity of broiler chickens. A total of 256 one-day-old Arbor Acres male broiler chicks were randomly allotted into 4 groups, with 8 replicates of 8 birds each, and were fed a corn–soybean meal–type basal diet supplemented without (control group) or with 1,000, 2,000, or 4,000 mg/kg LBP for 6 wk. The results showed that compared with the control diet, a significant increase in ADG (P < 0.05) during the grower and overall periods was observed in chickens fed the basal diet supplemented with 2,000 mg/kg LBP, whereas supplementation with 1,000 or 2,000 mg/kg LBP decreased feed-to-gain ratio (P < 0.05) during the starter period. The inclusion of LBP in the broiler diets increased overall amylase, lipase, and protease activities (P < 0.05). Supplementation with increasing levels of dietary LBP increased the activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase but decreased malondialdehyde content in the serum and liver (P < 0.05). Broilers fed with LBP-containing diets exhibited higher serum IgG and IgA concentrations (P < 0.05) than the broilers fed with the control diet. Serum tumor necrosis factor α and IL-4 concentrations were significantly elevated in the group fed 2,000 mg/kg LBP compared with the control group (P < 0.05). Broilers fed diets supplemented with LBP showed linear (P < 0.05) and quadratic (P < 0.05) increases in serum IL-6 and interferon gamma concentrations. The results indicated that dietary LBP supplementation can improve growth performance, digestive enzyme activities, antioxidant capacity, and immune function of broilers. In conclusion, LBP may be used as a promising feed additive for broilers, and a supplementation level of 2,000 mg/kg LBP in the broiler diet is recommended.
Summary Objective We sought to determine (1) whether change in the tibial plateau inclination (TPI) after high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is different from change in the knee joint line orientation ...(KJLO) relative to the ground; (2) whether, in varus knee OA patients before and after HTO, these radiographic measures are different from those in normal control; and (3) whether the postoperative values of the TPI and KJLO relative to the ground are associated with short term clinical outcome scores after HTO. Design Fifty patients who underwent HTO and 75 normal controls were assessed with four radiographic measures. We compared the measures before HTO with those after HTO and with those of the normal controls, then examined associations between the postoperative radiographic measures and clinical outcome scores 1-year after HTO. Results After HTO, TPI increased 9.0°, whereas KJLO relative to the ground only increased 4.1°, with a compensatory change of the ankle joint line orientation. However, the postoperative KJLO relative to the ground in the HTO group was significantly different from that of the normal controls (mean difference, 4.9°; P < 0.001). In the multiple regression analyses, the postoperative radiographic measures were not associated with outcome clinical scores 1 year after HTO. Conclusion After HTO the relative KJLO changed significantly less than did the anatomical geometry of the proximal tibia. Although the KJLO after the HTO was still significantly different from that of normal knees, its value did not adversely affect clinical outcome scores 1 year after HTO.
Graphene and its composites are widely investigated as supercapacitor electrodes due to their large specific surface area. However, the severe aggregation and disordered alignment of graphene sheets ...hamper the maximum utilization of its surface area. Here we report an optimized structure for supercapacitor electrode, i.e., the vertical graphene sheets, which have a vertical structure and open architecture for ion transport pathway. The effect of morphology and orientation of vertical graphene on the performance of supercapacitor is examined using a combination of model calculation and experimental study. Both results consistently demonstrate that the vertical graphene electrode has a much superior performance than that of lateral graphene electrode. Typically, the areal capacitances of a vertical graphene electrode reach 8.4 mF/cm2 at scan rate of 100 mV/s; this is about 38% higher than that of a lateral graphene electrode and about 6 times higher than that of graphite paper. To further improve its performance, a MnO2 nanoflake layer is coated on the surface of graphene to provide a high pseudocapacitive contribution to the overall areal capacitance which increases to 500 mF/cm2 at scan rate of 5 mV/s. The reasons for these significant improvements are studied in detail and are attributed to the fast ion diffusion and enhanced charge storage capacity. The microscopic manipulation of graphene electrode configuration could greatly improve its specific capacitance, and furthermore, boost the energy density of supercapacitor. Our results demonstrate that the vertical graphene electrode is more efficient and practical for the high performance energy storage device with high power and energy densities.

Since reset and set voltages are higher than Vth, information can be written by simply applying an appropriate voltage to a selected cell. By applying a voltage lower than Vth to the other cells, we can keep the other cells in the off state and prevent interference between the selected cell and the others.
