Sicily - a balmy summer evening with the aroma of lemons in the light breeze. You reach for a bottle of Limonesco to cool you down. But then one look at the design, with its radioactive lemons, and ...you are suddenly transported back to Clapham. All the summer cues are there - frosted bottle, yellow and blue, refreshing in colour. But what about the wine cues? Apart from that, I feel the design does its job.
Although rare, barodontalgia can be a problem for those who fly. Two cases are presented, one which occurred during simulated high-altitude flight in the altitude chamber and the other during actual ...flight. The case that occurred during actual flight was resolved by treatment of the most suspect tooth after diagnostic tests failed to identify the problem. The other case was eventually treated successfully when symptoms became localized. The difficulties encountered in making a diagnosis are described.
HBT gate array for 5 GHz ASICs Yinger, S.; Lee, F.; Huang, R. ...

Conference Proceeding, Journal Article
A high speed HBT gate array has been developed for applications requiring data rates up to 5 Gbps. The array uses three levels of series gating enabling complex logic functions to be implemented ...efficiently. Chip size is 2.2 mm /spl times/ 2.2 mm and is packaged in a 68 pin leaded chip carrier with 20 pair of differential I/O signals. Typical power dissipation is 1 to 3 watts. The top level gate delay is 55 ps for a fanout of one and 60 fF load.< >

A development effort was directed toward formulating epoxy resins that are useful both as structural materials and as shielding against heavy-ion radiation. Hydrogen is recognized as the best element ...for absorbing heavy-ion radiation, and high-hydrogen-content polymers are now in use as shielding materials. However, high-hydrogen-content polymers (e.g. polyethylene) are typically not good structural materials. In contrast, aromatic polymers, which contain smaller amounts of hydrogen, often have the strength necessary for structural materials. Accordingly, the present development effort is based on the concept that an ideal structural/heavy-ion-radiation-shielding material would be a polymer that contains sufficient hydrogen (e.g., in the form of aliphatic molecular groups) for radiation shielding and has sufficient aromatic content for structural integrity.
The Space Communications System Simulator (SCSS) is a tool which has played an essential role in the development of complex communication systems for NASA's space programs including the Space Station ...Freedom and the Space Shuttle. The paper describes the capabilities of the SCSS and one particular example of how the SCSS was applied to characterize the performance of the Space Station's primary communications subsystem in a hostile interference environment.< >
