: This study aimed to compare the acute and prolonged effects of three different Kinesio Taping (KT) techniques (underactive/overactive muscle correction UMC/OMC and functional correction FC) on hip ...ROM in the sagittal plane and compare them to those of the placebo Kinesio Taping (PKT) application.
: The sample consisted of 56 young healthy participants of both genders who were randomly divided into four equal groups. Measurements were performed using Kinovea software for video analysis during the performance of an active straight leg raise and the modified Thomas test at three timepoints: before the intervention and 60 min and 48 h after the intervention.
: Mixed-model ANOVA revealed a statistically significant interaction between group and timepoint (F = 6.210; p < 0.001; η
= 0.285 for ipsilateral hip extension ROM; F = 2.064; p = 0.036; η
= 0.117 for contralateral hip flexion ROM). The results revealed acute and prolonged ROM changes after the application of three different KT techniques compared to those after the control procedure, but these changes were not significant.
: These findings support the use of KT as a modality for enhancing ROM. In muscle techniques, the factor of the anchor placement direction, with the same percentage of Kinesio tape tension, generates different effects. These effects were greater after 48 h than immediately after application. In changing the segmental posture or joint alignment, FC proved to be more intense than the KT muscle techniques, with an immediate effect that persisted even after two days.
Coordination of muscle activity is determined by the recruitment order of agonists and synergists that results from their onset times. Motor recruitment deficits are possible. This study examined the ...acute and prolonged effects of three different techniques of the kinesio taping method in optimizing the intermuscular coordination within the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex. The sample consisted of 56 healthy participants of both genders, randomly divided into equal groups by kinesio taping muscle facilitation, muscle inhibition and functional correction technique, and placebo kinesio taping condition. The onsets of the ipsilateral and contralateral erector spinae muscles, in relation to the semitendinosus muscle of the tested leg, were measured using the surface electromyography, during the active performance of the prone hip extension test. Time span was also determined. Measurements were performed at baseline, 60 min, and 48 h post-intervention. For the control group, we did not find statistically significant differences in the onset between the measurement points (
> 0.05), while in the experimental groups, there was a significant delay in the onset of the contralateral erector spinae (
< 0.001) in the second and third measurement points. These results indicate that the kinesio taping method can optimize the intermuscular coordination, with the potential for primary injury prevention.
Goal of the work is to verify if there exists a significant difference in the quality of movement measured via virtual reality (VR) technology between two groups of patients diagnosed with adolescent ...idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Grouping is made according to geographic regions; Group 1 is from Zagreb, Group 2 from Vukovar. Another goal of the work is to verify whether there is a significant improvement from initial to final measurements over a one year period in the results of all patients from both groups. Hypothesis: there is no significant difference in the quality of movement between two groups of patients, as obtained through VR tests. The second hypothesis is that there is no significant difference in the results of specific VR tests for AIS between initial and final measurements of all the examinee; respectively, the conventional therapy program in both groups doesn’t produce significant results in the direction of improvement. The sample: each group is comprised of 5 patients with AIS diagnosis, between the ages of 12–18, of both genders. The patients have a double scoliotic curve with Cobb value between 37 and 46 degrees, and are being treated with classical physiotherapeutic methods for AIS, at clinics in Zagreb and Vukovar. Methodology: VR tests for assessment of the quality of movement are a part of the System for Diagnosis and Control in Kinesiology (SYDACK) constructed at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, as described in the dissertation: VR in physiotherapy of patients with AIS (Filipović, 2011). SYDACK is an original Croatian product, containing 4 VR tests for evaluating the quality of movement: diagonal sliding to the right, diagonal sliding to the left, sliding and hip elevation. Results are analyzed via a t-test for small independent samples and a t-test for small dependent samples. In 93.75% cases there is no significant difference between results of the two groups, as obtained by all 4 VR tests. The analysis shows there is no geographical dependence in the quality of motion with AIS, which confirms the initial hypothesis. In 81.25% cases there is no significant difference in the results of specific VR tests between initial and final measurements. In 18.75% cases there is a significant difference in the direction of improvement.
Current research promotes complementary methods of coping with menstrual pain (MP). Our objective was to examine the effectiveness of the Kinesio Taping (KT) intervention on MP and determine whether ...KT has therapeutic impact or whether there is presence of placebo. We used crossover design, dividing 30 female participants into KT and placebo KT groups. Every phase included one menstrual cycle. The average age of participants was 23.5 years (ranging from 18 to 39 years). In the assessment, we used VAS, Brief Pain Inventory Scale, and some SF-36 subscales. In KT phase all types of pain (the average MP, the worst experienced MP, the mildest one, and the current MP) were significantly less intense. KT has beneficial effect in reducing MP and its consequences and it is significantly superior to placebo. The order of intervention showed no statistical significance, which also confirms the therapeutic effect of KT.
Motor skills can be improved through rapid on-the-job training or slower multi-session learning. The objective of this study was to determine the rapid learning differences between male and female ...university students during the execution of two motor coordination tests. Available data from 716 female and 331 male college students were retrospectively analyzed. The female participants had a mean age (±SD) of 19.6 (±1.55) years, while the male participants recorded a mean age of 19.8 (±1.87) years. Data were collected using two motor coordination tests, each performed in triplicate. The statistical method used in this analysis was mixed-model ANOVA. The interaction effect of gender and number of attempts was statistically significant for both motor coordination tests (F=12.446; p<0.01; η2p=0.13 & F=11.169; p<0.01; η2p=0.01). Post-hoc testing showed that males performed better at the tasks in all three runs, and both genders improved their performance in subsequent trials. However, females showed a larger relative improvement from trial to trial than did males. The two coordination tests yield similar results. The observed differences in improvements in the coordination tests may be attributed to different motor learning strategies and cognitive processing between the sexes.

Alpine skiing is one of the most dangerous winter sports that entails a high number of injuries, most commonly affecting the knee. Kinesiophobia is a condition in which an individual experiences fear ...of physical movement and activity as a result of feeling susceptible to injuries or recurrent injuries. The objective was to examine the level of kinesiophobia in skiers who have sustained knee injuries.
The sample consisted of 22 female and 11 male professional skiers, with the average age of 24 ± 7.391 years. For the purpose of the assessment, the Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK) was employed.
The number of knee injuries in skiers totals at least 1 and 11 at most, on average 2.45, most commonly involving the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. There were no significant differences between the left and the right knee or bilateral injuries. The average score in the TSK totals 36 points, which is close to the critical threshold of 37 points. 36% of the participants possess a high level of kinesiophobia. With respect to the general level of kinesiophobia, no significant differences were found in relation to gender, with regard to the number of surgeries or whether one or both knees were affected by injuries. Older skiers have also been found to have significantly lower fear of recurrent injuries.
The number of knee injuries in skiing is high and aggravating, in such a way that almost one third of skiers that have sustained knee injuries experience a critical level of kinesiophobia, and that requires intervention. During rehabilitation, psychological support should also be provided to athletes in order to prevent or reduce kinesiophobia and thus prevent recurrent or new injuries.
In modern scientific and clinical research the need of interdisciplinary studies of association of different areas increasingly emphasizes. Specially emphasised is the importance of choosing adequate ...integrative, supportive intervention methods aimed at restitution of psychosocial and neuromotorfunctions of the individual. Evolution of different scientific knowledge develops new interdisciplinary fields such as art therapy, and new methods of creative interventions in the diagnosis, education, treatment and rehabilitation, which are characterized by the synergy of functional, psychosocial, educational and psychotherapeutic effects. Given the above it is important to plan themes from modern therapeutic approaches through the education of students for future therapists. The aim of this paper is to show how students get to know the characteristics of various sculptural media, and provoke the awareness of many possibilities of their use in the therapeutic process. The study was carried out in the 3 hour practical workshop form on a sample of 38 final year physiotherapy students. For the purposes of the research questionnaire of authors' own design was used. It analyzes examinees 'previous experience, preferences and use of sculptural media. Survey results indicate students 'insufficient knowledge and use of expressive three-dimensional art media (clay, wire, aluminum foil). Therefore, this paper represents an initial effort in the design and planning of training students for future therapists to use contemporary complementary art therapeutic approaches. Keywords: education, interdisciplinary approach, three-dimensional expressive art media U suvremenim znanstvenim i klinickim istrazivanjima sve vise se istice potreba interdisciplinarnog proucavanja povezanosti razlicitih podrucja. Kljucne rijeci: poucavanje, interdisciplinarni pristup, trodimenzionalni art ekspresivni medij
