ABSTRACTRedox flow batteries (RFBs) are perceived to lead the large-scale energy storage technology by integrating with intermittent renewable energy resources such as wind and solar to overcome ...current challenges in conventional energy storage devices. Recently, several modifications have been employed in the development of RFBs to achieve efficient energy storage at an economically acceptable cost of the system. For large-scale deployment, further improvement in energy efficiency, longevity of the system, and reduction in cost are required. Most of the recent research activities are focused on the discovery of new materials to increase RFBs’ energy storage-release performance with long-term stable operations suitable for implementation in mobile devices. Considering the growth in research interest, and the volume of literature generated over the past decade on the topic, a review article highlighting the key development and status of research is essential. Herein, we intend to provide the basics of the RFB system including their cell components, various types, and the current trends highlighting the study gaps that require extra effort. Moreover, we conducted an analysis of the cost of the RFBs, associated challenges, and mitigation strategies. The review also includes electrode/electrolyte materials in a table format for quick access for comparison purposes.
In this study, a comparative efficacy of Cananga odorata EO (CoEO) and its nanoencapsulated formulation into chitosan nanoemulsion (CoEO-CsNe) against a toxigenic strain of Aspergillus flavus ...(AF-M-K5) were investigated for the first time in order to determine its efficacy in preservation of stored food from fungal, aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) contamination and lipid peroxidation. GC and GC–MS analysis of CoEO revealed the presence of linalool (24.56%) and benzyl acetate (22.43%) as the major components. CoEO was encapsulated into chitosan nanoemulsion (CsNe) through ionic-gelation technique and characterized by High Resolution-Scanning Electron Microscopy (HR-SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. The CoEO-CsNe during in vitro investigation against A. flavus completely inhibited the growth and AFB1 production at 1.0 μL/mL and 0.75 μL/mL, respectively. Additionally, CoEO-CsNe showed improved antioxidant activity against DPPH• and ABTS•+ with IC50 value 0.93 and 0.72 μL/mL, respectively. Further, CoEO-CsNe suppressed fungal growth, AFB1 secretion and lipid peroxidation in Arachis hypogea L. during in situ investigation without causing any adverse effect on seed germination. Overall results demonstrated that the CoEO-CsNe has potential of being utilized as a suitable plant based antifungal agent to improve the shelf-life of stored food against AFB1 and lipid peroxidation mediated biodeterioration.

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) has devastating economic impact. During the last decade, LSD had spread to climatically new and previously disease-free countries, which also includes its recent emergence in ...the Indian subcontinent (2019). This study deals with the LSD outbreak(s) from cattle in Ranchi (India). Virus was isolated from the scabs (skin lesions) in the primary goat kidney cells. Phylogenetic analysis based on nucleotide sequencing of LSD virus (LSDV) ORF011, ORF012 and ORF036 suggested that the isolated virus (LSDV/Bos taurus-tc/India/2019/Ranchi) is closely related to Kenyan LSDV strains. Further, we adapted the isolated virus in Vero cells. Infection of the isolated LSDV to Vero cells did not produce cytopathic effect (CPE) until the 4th blind passage, but upon adaptation, it produced high viral titres in the cultured cells. The kinetics of viral DNA synthesis and one-step growth curve analysis suggested that Vero cell-adapted LSDV initiates synthesizing its genome at ~24 hours post-infection (hpi) with a peak level at ~96 hpi whereas evidence of progeny virus particles was observed at 36-48 hours (h) with a peak titre at ~120 h. To the best of our knowledge, this study describes the first successful isolation of LSDV in India, besides providing insights into the life cycle Vero cell-adapted LSDV.
Background
Coronaviruses mainly affect the respiratory system; however, there are reports of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV causing neurological manifestations. We aimed at discussing the various neurological ...manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection and to estimate the prevalence of each of them.
Methods
We searched the following electronic databases; PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE, Google Scholar, EBSCO, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, WHO database, and
ClinicalTrials.gov
. Relevant MeSH terms for COVID-19 and neurological manifestations were used. Randomized controlled trials, non-randomized controlled trials, case-control studies, cohort studies, cross-sectional studies, case series, and case reports were included in the study. To estimate the overall proportion of each neurological manifestations, the study employed meta-analysis of proportions using a random-effects model.
Results
Pooled prevalence of each neurological manifestations are, smell disturbances (35.8%; 95% CI 21.4–50.2), taste disturbances (38.5%; 95%CI 24.0–53.0), myalgia (19.3%; 95% CI 15.1–23.6), headache (14.7%; 95% CI 10.4–18.9), dizziness (6.1%; 95% CI 3.1–9.2), and syncope (1.8%; 95% CI 0.9–4.6). Pooled prevalence of acute cerebrovascular disease was (2.3%; 95%CI 1.0–3.6), of which majority were ischaemic stroke (2.1%; 95% CI 0.9–3.3), followed by haemorrhagic stroke (0.4%; 95% CI 0.2–0.6), and cerebral venous thrombosis (0.3%; 95% CI 0.1–0.6).
Conclusions
Neurological symptoms are common in SARS-CoV-2 infection, and from the large number of cases reported from all over the world daily, the prevalence of neurological features might increase again. Identifying some neurological manifestations like smell and taste disturbances can be used to screen patients with COVID-19 so that early identification and isolation is possible.
Despite wide investigation on molecular imaging contrast agents, there are still strong unmet medical needs to enhance their signal-to background ratio, brightness, photostability, and ...biocompatibility with multimodal imaging capability. Here, we assessed the feasibility of fluorescent nanodiamonds (FNDs) as carbon based photostable and biocompatible materials for molecular imaging applications. Because FNDs have negatively charged nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers, they can emit bright red light. FNDs were conjugated to hyaluronate (HA) for target-specific molecular imaging. HA is a biocompatible, biodegradable, and linear polysaccharide with abundant HA receptors in the liver, enabling liver targeted molecular imaging.
In vitro
cell viability tests revealed the biocompatibility of HA-FND conjugates and the competitive cellular uptake test confirmed their target-specific intracellular delivery to HepG2 cells with HA receptors. In addition,

fluorescence lifetime (FLT) assessment revealed the imaging capability of FNDs and HA-FND conjugates. After that, we could confirm the statistically significant liver-targeted delivery of HA-FND conjugates by

biodistribution tests in various organs. The renal clearance test and histological analysis corroborated the
in vivo
biocompatibility and safety of HA-FND conjugates. All these results demonstrated the feasibility of HA-FND conjugates for further molecular imaging applications.

There is global shortage of Personal Protective Equipment due to COVID-19 pandemic. N95 Filtering Facepiece Respirators (N95-FFRs) provide respiratory protection against respiratory pathogens ...including SARS-CoV-2. There is scant literature on reprocessing methods which can enable reuse of N95-FFRs.
We conducted this study to evaluate research done, prior to COVID-19 pandemic, on various decontamination methods for reprocessing of N95-FFRs.
We searched 5 electronic databases (Pubmed, Google Scholar, Crossref, Ovid, ScienceDirect) and 1 Grey literature database (OpenGrey). We included original studies, published prior to year 2020, which had evaluated any decontamination method on FFRs. Studies had evaluated a reprocessing method against parameters namely physical changes, user acceptability, respirator fit, filter efficiency, microbicidal efficacy and presence of chemical residues post-reprocessing.
Overall, we found 7887 records amongst which 17 original research articles were finally included for qualitative analysis. Overall, 21 different types of decontamination or reprocessing methods for N95-FFRs were evaluated. Most commonly evaluated method for reprocessing of FFRs was Ultraviolet (Type-C) irradiation (UVGI) which was evaluated in 13/17 (76%) studies. We found published literature was scant on this topic despite warning signs of pandemic of a respiratory illness over the years. Promising technologies requiring expeditious evaluation are UVGI, Microwave generated steam (MGS) and based on Hydrogen peroxide vapor. Global presence of technologies, which have been given Emergency use authorisation for N95-FFR reprocessing, is extremely limited. Reprocessing of N95-FFRs by MGS should be considered for emergency implementation in resource limited settings to tackle shortage of N95-FFRs.

Specific ion effects (SIE), encompassing the Hofmeister Series, have been known for more than 130 years since Hofmeister and Lewith's foundational work. SIEs are ubiquitous and are observed across ...the medical, biological, chemical and industrial sciences. Nevertheless, no general predictive theory has yet been able to explain ion specificity across these fields; it remains impossible to predict when, how, and to what magnitude, a SIE will be observed. In part, this is due to the complexity of real systems in which ions, counterions, solvents and cosolutes all play varying roles, which give rise to anomalies and reversals in anticipated SIEs. Herein we review the historical explanations for SIE in water and the key ion properties that have been attributed to them. Systems where the Hofmeister series is perturbed or reversed are explored, as is the behaviour of ions at the liquid-vapour interface. We discuss SIEs in mixed electrolytes, nonaqueous solvents, and in highly concentrated electrolyte solutions - exciting frontiers in this field with particular relevance to biological and electrochemical applications. We conclude the perspective by summarising the challenges and opportunities facing this SIE research that highlight potential pathways towards a general predictive theory of SIE.

Abstract In this paper, a multi-functional metasurface is proposed, which can work as a narrowband transmissive/reflective frequency selective surface (FSS) and an on-air frequency mixer based on its ...switching response. The metasurface is made up of unit cells with square and circular metallic loops connected by PIN diodes controlled by a bias source. In contrast to typical wideband FSSs, the structure provides 0.55 GHz of narrow stopband (a fractional bandwidth of 22%) at 2 GHz in the OFF state bias. The bandstop response can be adjusted by varying the reverse bias voltage. The metasurface alternates between its functionalities when in forward bias by providing a passband at the operational frequency. The structure is compact and operates as a transmissive/reflective surface under two different bias conditions (ON and OFF). The design is angularly stable and polarization-insensitive for both TE and TM polarisation. A prototype of the designed structure is developed and the measured results correlate well with the simulated responses from the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method-based simulation of the circuit model. On-air frequency mixing for a wave propagating through the metasurface is demonstrated and the effects of different parameters affecting the mixing are parametrically studied through FDTD simulations and experiments.
The catalytic conversion of CO2 to CO by the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction followed by well-established synthesis gas conversion technologies could be a practical technique to convert CO2 ...to valuable chemicals and fuels in industrial settings. For catalyst developers, prevention of side reactions like methanation, low-temperature activity, and selectivity enhancements for the RWGS reaction are crucial concerns. Cerium oxide (ceria, CeO2) has received considerable attention in recent years due to its exceptional physical and chemical properties. This study reviews the use of ceria-supported active metal catalysts in RWGS reaction along with discussing some basic and fundamental features of ceria. The RWGS reaction mechanism, reaction kinetics on supported catalysts, as well as the importance of oxygen vacancies are also explored. Besides, recent advances in CeO2 supported metal catalyst design strategies for increasing CO2 conversion activity and selectivity towards CO are systematically identified, summarized, and assessed to understand the impacts of physicochemical parameters on catalytic performance such as morphologies, nanosize effects, compositions, promotional abilities, metal-support interactions (MSI) and the role of selected synthesis procedures for forming distinct structural morphologies. This brief review may help with future RWGS catalyst design and optimization.
